I think since it is a milsim game, everyone should try their best to stay as true to the 'spirit of the game' as possible. Immersion should be second to top priority(the first priority being safety) and should be encouraged by everyone. All it takes is a few people breaking immersion to make a milsim not as enjoyable.

In the TACSOP it does say that militia forces are not allowed to use high speed load-outs (such as plate carriers, bump helmets, NVGs, etc.) and that attachments are strongly discouraged but these rules are basically never enforced. They are 100% allowed to use NATO weapons though like M4s.
Personally, I think it is ok as long as they use Russian styled high speed gear and optics, but the over Americanization of the militia forces is a bit...odd. Admittedly sometimes interesting and comical, but it does take some away from the immersion.

I think if the militia guy in "high speed" gear can and DOES rp his possession of it the whole game, that'd be ok. Like he always talks about "when the Americans came to train him to fight against [insert government here]". Then laugh about how now it's being used against Americans. That would help to keep the spirit of the game, and give a chuckle to people around him.

7:46 is a perfect example of why I never trust 95% of my team to clear anything. Unless I'm with a squad of guys I personally know and have played with many times, proving they know what they're doing. If you don't know the guys who "cleared" a building, do another sweep through yourself checking every square inch. You'd be surprised at where some people manage to hide.

  • @TheLPRnetwork

I think it would have been best for players of the Militia to group together with people of similar gear.
That way it's more impressive to think a group of militia just stole US supplies or something. Better than just one guy with non-Russian gear.
EDIT: or even better, have them act as prisoners, and when you free then, they put on the 'stolen' gear.

-western heavy loadouts: western mercenaries and other turncoats, occasional looters.

In a war, a weapon is a weapon so who cares what side you are on, if you killed some US forces, sure. Take their guns and gear. Its probably better than what you have. (But yes I agree. Try to group them as a squad so it seems like they collected it together and it helps for sharing mags. )

  • @kevinschmidt5403
    @kevinschmidt5403 6 лет назад +141

First off I want to say it’s so cool seeing the Russian perspective of this. I was a part of nato and my squad and I were the ones in that complex. I think personally Immersion wise it’s not a big deal because it’s a game, that being said, since I was in the building as well as outside before the Russian offensive, it was really hard to distinguish if they were nato or Russian. I don’t think they should run that style of kit unless they are nato. Not because of the immersion, but due to team identification and confusion

    • @DesertFoxAirsoft
      @DesertFoxAirsoft  6 лет назад +29

There were some moments of the game where I also became confused as to who was who cause their weapons and kit. I actually don't mind the helmets and PC's but their MK18's being the exact same attachment setup as NATO gets confusing. If they changed the attached format slightly I think that would help a little bit.

What breaks my immersion is when 1. People group up in clusters (unless there like a militia faction) in normal combat, 2. When the wrong gear for a faction is worn and 3. When people in milsims just say hit and sit down in the middle of a open field instead of acting like a dead man

If you don't understand impressions , go play American Mislim or some other green / tan event , in my country we have the same problem , i personaly do an impression of FSB , and every impression based milsim i go to , russians play alongside militia , i love seeing a good militia loadout , but most of those people don't bother to do an impression , and the worst argument i hear them saying is "oh ye impressions are expensive we don't all have money for it " , says a guy running a gun that in upgrades costs more then a full impression loadout . I think MSW should be a litle more strict with the militia , because i would hate to see it turn to something as awfull as this looks to be , i watch every mislim west video and i've never seen worst militia impressions in my life .

If you're in a malitia, you take any gun you can field, any equipment can be reworked/recolored to fit your faction, in airsoft you do all that before you go, and make adjustments as needed on arrival and team assignment.
That said, unless you pretend that you "scavenged" your gear on the day in prep for the battle or "defected" for RP reasons, looking like an enemy faction does in fact ruin immersion to a certain degree, and can impact the game with increased chance of friendly fire.

In my opinion, the only thing that is crucial for airsoft is a clear distinction between teams. As long as the kits look different for each team, then the game is at least playable.
Of course everyone would be happier with the same style of kit for each team, but that isnt usually possible in practice due to a number of reasons.

Well, to be fair as far as emersion is considered. In the story the militia has been fighting NATO for like what, 5 to 6 years or so now right? It stand to reason that with the back and forth in the story line (not to mention how many times NATO has gotten their butts kicked in recent events) that lots of gear superior to what an eastern European militia would be able to grab would be left behind. Think later stages of Vietnam when our guys were stealing as for jungle fighting and the VC were using stolen M16 for urban. Or hell ISIS has M16 A4s bought on the black market and garage built m4s. Not to mention a few stg 44s some MG 42/43s and at one point they had drones and 3 migs.
Ditch the camo for militia but let people keep the crye gear and mk18s it makes since for the story at this point imo or officially restrict NATO camo to NATO and gur to russfor and let the guys playing militia where whatever they want that's not in that category. Hell even then I've seen ISIS dudes with better gear than I had in 2007 thanks to Amazon international shipping. Multicam and dashiki is apparently a fairly common combo over there from what I've heard actually
Another side note though, the militia option was dreamed up as a way for people who could afford to play but not buy the kits or just couldn't justify having a milsim kit lying around for the once, maybe twice a year event they might actually get to use it. So I don't even get why people bother. Is it being used as overflow or something now? Personally I'd rather rock a flannel shirt and comfy blue jeans under my kit like I did for real steel back in the day. Way more comfortable than civilian made camo in my opinion.
Tldr: some NATO kit makes sense, given that the militia is picking shit up off of the dead from NATO after 6 years of fighting them, but the camo needs to be the restricted. Or a requirement that it looks ratty and shitty and mixed with civilian gear

I don’t care if they put the reflective tape on, in the heat of battle and at night that tape was invisible. If I had known you could show up in what ever kit and just slap on reflective tape I would’ve showed up in my CQB black gear and not spent almost $1000 making a new load out from the ground up.

LukePRTR I’m upset with MilSim West not backing what they repeatedly said in the TACSOP. The TACSOP clearly laid out the uniform requirements and if you didn’t show up in the proper gear you were going home. Me and my squad spent a lot of money making sure we met the requirements just to find out that we could’ve just slapped on some reflective tape. If they claim they’re going to send you home in the wrong gear then they should honor it. Other than that I had no problem with this event.

This doesn't mean he hates them as people, or never wants to play with them again. I'm sure he'd just prefer it if they'd keep to the spirit of what MSW is trying to do here.

Makes perfect sense? His events aren't MSW, nor do they encourage impressionism. MSW is an impression-based event, so non-impressionists should go militia and should follow militia rules, which state non-NATO body armor (which includes helmets), non-tactical ARs/AKs, and more regular-style surplus uniforms.

For a game like milsim west that's actually supposed to be immersive and milsim, I see your point, and I can see how it would negatively affect peoples' experiences as far as immersion into the game. But really we all know we're playing airsoft and it's really not a big deal at all to me personally. It's still a 48 hour game on a big AO with a pretty good amount of people and blankfire and whatnot. It wouldn't really ruin anything for me personally.

Many militias, especially in the Middle East, that include Ukrainian or Kurdish groups do wear JPCs and plate carriers. Several militias do use m4 based platforms, not just AKs. The reason for this is the fact of it being a Militia, meaning whatever you can best equip yourself with or afford as if in a realistic situation. Militias today are more heavily armed and equipped than people normally think. The YPG (a Kurdish militia group) usually wear fatigues and use m4 platforms and AKs; several also have plate carriers.

Breaking the spirit of the game should be against the rules. You should only be there if you can follow the guidelines, that’s literally the entire point of the event. Plus, I know MSW cadre work hard to put these games on, so ruining it by breaking the spirit nullifies some, if not all, of the work done by MSW cadre.

I feel like it's not that big a deal, the fun for me in airsoft is the same fun I get in shooters, and since it is in real life there are no restrictions on what "game-modes" I can play. One day me and my friends will play TTT another at my local field engaged in a desperate defense. It's all just fun and games.
I would love to participate in a milsim event someday, and I think the light restrictions on militia units has two benefits to the game an only one downside. Benefit one is for team balance, most people in the US will have NATO kits just because we live in the US so there has to be some way of making sure the teams are balanced. Second is to allow someone with a lower budget a way to participate in mil-sim introduce new people to the game. The downside is by far and away target ID though some of the guys on your team looked NATO which could be confusing for all sides so I feel color rules should be enforced more strictly(green=rusfor / tan = NATO). As for immersion I feel maybe a reenactment event could be ruined by it but these fictional NATO v Russia situations are more just for large scale airsoft battles.

Ill say this playing russian, I run my team wendy LTP w/ a russian fast style helmet cover (playing as rusfor forces). Normally when Questioned on its "authenticity" i can reference images of russian forces in syria using this equipment( or very similar russian clones of). But using a mk18 no. That i cant get, RUSFOR should basically be AK pattern weapons or other russian firearms. Basic M4s though do make sense for Militia Forces though. And both Western, Russian and China supplied insurgencies are sometimes better supplied than you may believe.
For those who think that wearing a Team Wendy is still too western, with the cover youd be hard pressed to tell the difference outside of the rails. And tbh ill take that slight bit of immersion as a trade off for safety. Concussions suck!

Now I’m not saying all Militia should/can run M4s, Air Frames, and JPCs (you might see that in real world Militia units), but to be coordinated like that with almost everyone running it, definitely takes away from the Spirit of the impression.

Do you think at this point the Tacsop needs to be updated a bit to reflect what the intended purpose of the militia faction is supposed to be? I personally think an updated wording is needed to correct the issue. No nods, no plate carriers, and no high speed M4 platforms. It's just too confusing and hurts the immersion of the game. And whoever approved the 2"x2" hi vis patches as enough for militia to tell friend from foe made a terrible decision.

Personally the spirit of the game, overall, is to have fun. In some cases, few people have AR type weapons and NATO style gear already. So they use what they have rather than spending more money. However that's in some small cases. If a group got a pass from Cadre when the TACSOP clearly states that high speed gear is not allowed for militia and other equipment is frowned upon, at what point is the TACSOP even viable? Especially since Cadre make it seem that the TACSOP needs to be followed verbatim. Some people have to follow the rules and some others get a pass? Either enforce the rules or throw that rule out the window.
