It did seam like a scary place to be especially seeing all the rusty problems we've had, im still not fully sure even after our professional readings haha aww thank you that's so nice, we are planning to do a live stream mini concert at some point, were both both just a bit shy haha
Could be lime scale build up from hard water. You might not be good at DIY, but great at singing. Becca as usual good at everything. You are both very talented. Love the VLOGS.

Looks like sediment in the tank, a kind of lime calcium build up like you get in a kettle.

Thanks David, supposedly it's not uncommon for boats have rusty or water in the bilges, we were panicking by quite a few people we spoke to had said they had experienced similar. So I wouldn't panic, will be worth a look of you can see down there, we didn't have the chance unfortunately

As you say your bow thruster is broken and not going to be used.
So if I were you when you have the boat out for blacking I suggest that you have a 6mm plate welded over the ends of the tube precisely because you don't have a bulk head to save the boat if the tube failed and let in water.
Bow thruster tubes are not necessarily needed.

Hi guys , I might be stating the obvious but you water tank is your hull & baseplate so what your measuring is the thickness of the side of your boat .
Yes I believe the tank is built up of the sides and the bottom of the boat, we’ll at a guess anyway, we were trying to get a measurement of the sides as I don’t believe they would have been affected by the baseplate, and sit in the water, and as we have experienced our fair share of rust on the wombat we just wanted to take precautions, hope this helps , we do also want to do a reading of the bottom really too just for peace of mind

The bow thruster pipe looks like it's 6 inch diameter , pipe sizes are measured by SCHEDULE so let's say 6 inch schedule 40 is what you have installed then the wall thickness would be 7.1 mm thick , I use schedule 40 as it's the standard pipe size

Hi another good vlog just thought I might say that no matter how big a hole you could make in your water tank it could never sink the boat as long as there a stop clock on the tank we have had to deal with several boats over the years where people have said we never have to fill up our water tank only to find big hole in tank and they have been using canal water.Also to be accurate when using your thickness tester you should grid the metal shiny clean before testing.

That’s such an interesting story and very unlucky for whoever has been drinking old river water haha fully at one with nature, I’m not sure we have a stop clock actually, just a diy household toilet ball that seamed to work,must have come from an old owner ,yes it was probably not the best reading , but just a bit of fun to make sure as we’ve had so much rust in this boat it’s hard to keep track haha

The stuff in the tank my be the remains of a cement/sand slurry that was previously painted over the steel to inhibit rust and make the water better tasting to drink. Nowadays I believe there's certain types of paint that are supposed to be ok for water tanks.... Good luck with it all
We did wonder if it was a cement? That’s a very good point, it may have just been chalk from the water too, what an odd surprise , yea we have been searching for a paint we can use to make the tank drinkable thank you 😃

We used puriclean in our tank and it took 4 times but now it runs clean. Honest I could watch you all day. Make me really laugh Hahha x

I'd use something like this, Zep Calcium, Lime & Rust Stain Remover 1Ltr Screwfix , but you next rinse out the tank really well, also hard water is the reason for scum on top of your tea 🍵

the powder in the water tank could be the remnants of a cement wash that may have been in there to protect the tank when the boat was built....have you though of inserting a plastic water tank or a bag, in there? or recoating the inside with a new wash?
Yea that’s a great suggestion, maybe it was the previous coating, it’s hard to tell until we take a closer look,yes the bags are called bladders I think but large Narrowboat ones are around £3000 what Iv seen but I could be wrong, yea we will be coating it probably , currently it’s useless haha

I would consider getting a tank liner: they are massive plastic bladders that sits in the cavity of the old tank with inlet and outlet connections. Its much more hygenic too.
I’d love to get one though there a bit out of our price range, if we can do it like this it may be the cheaper option, it would definitely be the more hygienic way of doing it thanks

I think in the future when it comes to it we would change it slightly but not massively, it’s the one thing on the boat that’s actually quite nice I think … like a giant can of Pepsi not a Union Jack 🇬🇧 thanks 🙏

#1 Sediment in the watertank? Why not? The way you fill the tank seem, to me, a very dirty way. With the opening flat to the floor ther is a very big "chance" to get dirt into the tank. If the filling hole was rised, via a pice of pipe, the risk of getting dirt into the tank is, if not totally removed, at least 99% better...
#2 Still love your vlogs, be it not yet really on the cut

honestly I hate mild steel tanks. I always replace them with a stainless tank or cut the top off and use it as a box for a plastic tank or bladder tanks. Trust me it is far less work in the long run.
Yea it’s one thing we didn’t look into massively, now looking back we should have gotten a stainless steel tank, the bladder is a great idea to but I think there quite pricey thanks for your suggestions
Wow you two are great . Took guitar lessons as a teen for about a minute just couldn’t get the hang of it. So jealous of folks with real talent like y’all. Glad all your measurements are good. Looks like the titan will be out next video to clean up the mess. Doing a great job. I wonder if the folks that sold you the boat are watching? aww thank you I had guitar lessons for a year I think and I just couldn't get my head around notes so ended up teaching myself, Becca is self taught, yes it docent look like long until the titan will come out to play hahah believe the previous owner was well aware of the leak situation then sold it quickly, it wasn't to hard to find the hole that let us look in to, just a shame he couldnt be more honest with his sale or accept the boat at at the cheaper offer we offered him, greed seamed to get in the way, its actually a lovely oat with all its hatches she just needs some love

The tester can be purchased from Amazon but believe it’s around £80, great bit of kit
