The Evolution Of Ice Nine Kills (2002-2021)

- Edit: More people are finding this now so I figured I’d leave a list of songs
She’s The Same
Murders And Acquisitions
Greatest Story Ever Told
People Under The Stairs
The Coffin Is Moving
The Power In Belief
Communion Of The Cursed
It Is The End
Your Number’s Up
Hip To Be Scared
Their early stuff was a little too scene for me, but when The Silver Scream came out, I think they really came into their own, commercially and artistically. The whole album has a refined melodic sensibility that really makes it a cut above the rest.
Hey Paul!
@@runawayfaeIX ahhhhhhhhhhh
Eric hello as my lawyer you know I'm psychotic but I've crossed the line. I killed drew Chris and mike stabbed José with a knife but i don't think I'm gonna get away with it this time
HEY PAUL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@@drengr7386So to hell with good intentions…
Imagine you go to see them live, they play Stabbing In The Dark, and then suddenly they just bust out their old ska stuff.
*getting ready for breakdown*
CAUSE WE’RE THE KING AND QUEEN OF SOCIAL SUICIDE
I gotta see that
Honestly my dream
was there, because my friend knows the drummer, so we got free tickets, and I can only say, that I would pay double the normal price for the tickets just to see that again, it was 100% worth it, when you get the chance, go there ASAP trust me
Saw them live on the Trinity of terror tour last year the didn't play the old stuff but great concert nonetheless
They did the opposite of most bands were soft and got heavy
And the Newest album has prob their heaviest shit they've put out..
@@wittekurt well half of the songs aren’t very heavy but funeral derangements and take your pick are super heavy
@@wittekurt I’d argue against that. Probably Take Your Pick is the only song to contend with Merry Axemas.
@@tommydemise4077 what? Funeral Derangements says otherwise....
@@wittekurt Funeral Derangements was heavy but not QUITE as heavy as Take Your Pick or Axemas. It’s up there tho.
Ice Nine Kills is one of the few bands that I listen to, where people don't constantly complain that they miss their old style, and I think that's pretty good proof that they just keep getting better and better
If I’m being honest all their music since 2002 is so damn good
you can tell when Spencer really found his tone in 2007. it's amazing, really
in terms of spencer yes but the sound as a band entirely would be in 2013 for me
@@synsoul3499agree
I like how their sound changed a lot but their love for horror movies didn’t
What I love the most about their new sound is they still haven't completely abandoned their roots. Listen to the trumpets in It Is The End, or on Horrorwood pay attention to the little skanky bit at the end of each line in the verses on Rash Decision - Spencer's still working little bits of ska in there where they fit, same as he works in all his other influences. It just makes their sound so much more unique, and I love it. Who else is making songs formed from a mix of ska punk, emo, metalcore, horror movie soundtracks, and showtunes?

I'm just glad that they are finally getting some recognition
I remember going to see them play shows at vfw posts, bowling alleys and small 100-200 person venues where there where probably 50-70 people there to see them
I used to play in a couple of bands that played with Ice Nine (sans kills) back in high school (2002-2003). If I remember correctly I think I designed one if their websites. Honestly can't remember. I did it for a lot of bands in the North Shore (MA) punk scene back then. It's funny, I got hooked on oxycontin and eventually heroin in 2005 and ended up spending many years in prison. When I got out and heard of this band "ice nine kills" playing warped tour. I couldn't believe it was the same band that was just another dime-a-dozen pop-punk band back in the early 2000s. Good for them. They aged well. Like a good wine.
Hope you’re alright and staying clean now!
@@tommydemise4077 thanks! And yes I am :)
@@brendanoconnorphotography congratulations! I know that's a hard thing to do ❤
Came across them on myspace in 05 or 06 when I was a teen. Even then the song writing and story telling was great. Couldn't be happier with how they've grown, both in popularity and in their music.
I have to admit I had not heard of INK until the Silver Scream. To me it's amazing that for 20 years they have been in a constant evolution with no fear changing styles as long as it works for the song. They really are a testament to what a musician should be.
I grew up in southern NH, and saw Ice Nine a couple times at local shows. Kinda forgot about them, and when Silver scream came out in 2018 I was shocked it was the same band. Granted, Spencer is the only original member
To be fair their older stuff ain't bad. It's pretty good, it's just different cause I'm use to there newer stuff
It’s just a little bit too scene for me
@@ryanthln hey paul…
Their song a reptiles dysfunction is bomb as fuck. Easily a top 8 for me.
they just threw it all away in 2007 and got freaking heavy lol
You can already hear glimpses of their current style in 2007. I’m so happy they found horror as their topic and blew up

Right?
I remember watching them in the cafeteria of my high school. I graduated with Spencer. Boy have they grown and adapted over the years. Here is a little gem for everyone. ruclips.net/video/DIuvZsQCq0Y/видео.html
This is cool as hell
No way! Cool❤️🔥
Modern INK is basically a cross between metalcore and horror punk
And I’m here for it. Generally new INK fan member here btw
JEEZ! 2002?!?! This band is nearly ancient! (And I’m older then the band!)
Band was started the year I was born
2002 isn’t ancient lol. Ancient would be like 70’s or 80’s. And even that’s not ancient if it still holds up today, like Metallica’s early albums and most of the early thrash albums in general. Yeah, the production isn’t great by today’s standards but the passion and energy is still there. That is timeless.
@@The_JustJoshing well ancient to me I mean but I get it
You make me feel ancient as fuck 😆. I was born in 79 and grew up listening to the above referenced thrash and now I'm currently a big fan of the metalcore scene and especially INK. Wonderful how this music can span across generations.
@@The_JustJoshing considering how many bands break up before hitting the 10 year mark, 20 is pretty damn ancient
Okay I've only been a fan for a couple years now and now I realize what that line in “Hip To Be Scared” means with the “Their early work was a little bit too scene for me” meant.
😂😂😂
The Greatest Story Ever Told, still lives up to its name
Just saw them live last night and man they fucking crush it live. Been a fan since Every Trick in the Book
Oh hey this was posted on my birthday lmao, it's cool to see the changes this band has went through over the years
Happy super late birthday
I love how The Burning EP art is literally Cabin Fever.
they kept the theatrical nature of ska punk and made it heavy. love that. band kids and drama kids found metal
i love how you can tell his voice deepened, from the beginning of the video to the end you can definitely hear the chance
thanks for making this, it was a blast to watch
I found out about them in 2022 like a year after Silver Scream 2 came out and I instantly fell in love with them, metal isn't necessarily popular where I live so I was a closet metal fan but now idgaf I'm a Psycho this band is amazing
The MySpace days is when I first heard them. I love what they are doing now, but last chance to make amends will always be my favorite.
Been listening to them since Amends but i never heard that 02 ska album before! Incredible!
What’s interesting is that while the Ska stuff was made in 02, it wasn’t actually released until 2009 for some reason. I listed it as 02 cause that’s when it was made.
The 2007 one is called the greatest story ever told, the next one is the people under the stairs, the next one is the coffin is moving, the one after that is the power in belief, the next one is the communion of the cursed, the next new one is IT is the end, after that it’s Your number’s up, after that it’s hip to be scared
One of the few bands I love every album from
What a hell of a genre shift. Ska,/Punk, Post Hardcore, Metalcore, heavy metal, with a touch into Deathcore. God damn hahah
Damn. I had no idea they started off Ska and then had an early Brand New style album. I first heard of them Eden The Burning came out. Crazy how far they've come.
found them in 06 and never looked back. Love these guys.
I always forget that Justin did scream vocals for INK.
man, they really evolved. I really miss the OG safe is just a shadow era, it was the first stuff I heard by them so naturally I'm attached. But I am so proud of them and their new album is amazing.
I love this band because I'm a huge fan of metal/ hard rock and horror and ice nine kills just combined them together so well. Also horror as been a part of metal for decades like black Sabbath and Slayer who have horror theme albums and songs.
I only found INK back in 2016 with Safe Is Just a Shadow which I stumbled upon somehow and I've been a fan ever since!
My favorite band
Mine too
2015 and up i liked.. a lot didn’t know about before that.. 🥁🤘🏻😎🤘🏻🥁I like the heavy stuff especially on drums.. They are bad ass today in 2021 in that epic legendary band status now.. 🤘🏻😎🤘🏻
Welcome to horrorwood, having an official anthem is nice lol
The Burning was such a good album
Its bizarre to hear their older works (the ones from 2002-2013) , i didnt know they started in 2002
i'm so sad i didn't find them earlier. my friend introduced me to them in july and i wish i heard their earlier stuff. crazy to see this vid with knowing where they are now
You’d be forgiven for thinking It’s not even the same band
Saw them live last November on the Trinity of terror tour and all I can say is it was killer
2006 was gold for me Ice Nine Kills was there for me
Наверное, единственный бенд который из попсы постепенно вырос в тяжеляк, и при этом когда играли поп панк были ваще не знамениты, а с тяжеляком стали оч популярны )
My favorite band❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥
Thinking about how Ice Nine Kills is older than Dance Gavin Dance
The burning was actually pretty good
The original "Safe Is Just A Shadow" it's still the best INK album for me (followed by Horrorwood of course).
Not the remaster? Why? Kinda got me curious.
i really do miss their old stuff but i do like some of the new albums
Safe is just a shadow is the first song i ever heard by them ^^
Not going to lie, the chorus from the 2006 song was fucking great!
That first song is actually a banger ngl.
Its kinda interesting in all of it- I kinda like it all
Start is 2002
0:37 2006 last chance to make amends
1:13 2007 the burning
1:55 2010 safe is just a shadow
2:48 2013 the predator
3:33 2014 the predator becomes the prey
3:55 2015 every trick in the book
5:06 2017 safe is just a shadow remastered
5:55 2018 silver scream
7:30 2019 silver scream Final Cut
8:16 2021 welcome to horrorwood
Seems like 2013 is when they started to sound best. And have only gotten better. I love ink but I would have never gotten into them on those first few albums.
Found this band in 2006 I was only six years old I've been hooked ever since they was my first concert first tattoo and in 2018 they asked for song ideas and I said scream and IT which later both became amazing songs
i didnt know i started liking Ice Nine Kills in 2010😮
Why is this being suggested to me after a kill count lol, I mean I dig it but weird.
I’m so sorry lol. I love James content tho
2015 best in my opinion at least for the song that they picked communion of the cursed but i like it all to be honest ICE NINE KILLS just hits different
The Silver Scream 2: Welcome to Horrorwood was labeled as simply Welcome to Horrorwood
Didn’t know that at the time
@@tommydemise4077 which is totally understandable
Take this from someone who's seen them live they "Kill" live
Anyone else think that Spencer sounded like Tom Delonge during the ska years
I've met Spencer numerous times. He said the early ska years was just an attempt to get girls. He said that was the big thing in Boston. He hated ska so much. He decided to really revamp the style during Safe if Just a Shadow. Started to evolve to the metalcore he's always wanted to do. INK will continue to evolve. They're like a Pokemon evolving every step of the way.
I don’t believe that. Even in the new stuff you can hear his ska influences like the trumpets in It Is The End.
No way that’s how they sounded in 2002… I mean it still sounds pretty sick, but it’s completely different
Their early work really was a bit to scene for me.
I don’t miss their old style. Their new style is truly them. But I miss 2010 ink and always will 😂
I like it all 😂
I need ice nine kills to make a ska album
They did! It’s called The Ska Pop Punk Days
I will always call INK a ska band
My dad is friends with ricky
Personally i like 2014 and up WAY heavier
I like the pop punk ska version more then the new stuff
Yeah i know they got lots of attention from TSS, but i honestly liked their early stuff better "Last Chance To Make Amends" especially, their new stuff isn't something that original as people say either. Many bands have done that before them, and besides i don't care about popularity, i just listen to what i really like. Don't get me wrong TSS has many great songs and i like the entire album, but didnt like TSS 2 much, aside from the collab songs.
anyone else notice how this video is ripped off of someone elses
I’m not the first person to make a band evolution video and I won’t be the last.
I was born in 2002
Me too
2:47 name
The Coffin Is Moving
so they are just posers chasing the most popular music trend in their field for profit👍👍 good 2 know
