Oh no, Paul! The hair dryer seems like a fire risk if you're leaving it on your bed running. Electric blankets will do a better job of giving you even heat as well.
Love your videos. Thanks for the generosity!

Over the past year my employer has been working towards implementing a lean program....which I have carried home with me in my garage especially. My wife and I own a townhome with a single stall garage, no basement....so space is a premium. Using lean principles, I've been able to make the most of what little storage we have. I love your videos and a lot of the ideas presented. It's helped me look at the world differently and how I can more efficiently get through the day at home and at work:-)

A lean gardener always, always, always has pruning shears at his/her waist, you can always prune any thing that is in your way anywhere and you can cut your trimmer line on the spot! I always have mine at hand and at the end of the year it saves me so many trips to my truck or trailer and it keeps plants in there space and out of my way.

Great video - you really demonstrated how to apply the SS Lean principles to home life. From an engineer and organizer perspective, you are bringing two worlds together and it definitely makes life easier. Keep up the good work!

Hi everyone, i am 51 and having more fun then anyone should be allowed to have. The important thing is that you start and never stop. develop a routine for improvement, for me it is every weekend my wife and I 3 s some part of our house and it seams like there is always something. With things always improving it encourages me to keep going because my"Work" is getting easier.

Electric mattress pads. I discovered these 40 years ago when I met my wife's family back east. They are the best, put them on a timer and your bed will be toasty when bed time comes.

For your drill bits, try adding a plastic tab above each slot in the corner with a hand made drilled hole of the correct size, so when you put it back you slide it through the hole

Thanks David! I need to update this video. FastCap now has a slick solution to this problem. It is called the KISS Drill Bit System. Check it out and let me know what you think! www.fastcap.com/estore/pc/viewprd.asp?idproduct=50453 Paul

Paul Akers, love your work! You beautifully illustrate that organisation is a little work now for a lotta lazy later on. The drill bit organisation was one of my favourites (oh, and your house and garden are beautiful).
Are you really 63 years old? Even your looks are lean!

The Pacific Northwest is hardly a cold climate in winter. I recommend avoiding travel to Minnesota and Wisconsin in winter. Lest you learn what cold really is. ;)

I felt sure you were going to show the KISS system. This video obviously predates the KISS. I like the indicator magnet idea. You must be the most organized human being to ever live! I love many of your LEAN applications. And the lawn mower bidet... that's both hilarious and awesome!
I'm jealous of your beautiful yard and workshop.

Thanks Steve. You're right. This was before the KISS Drill Bit System (www.fastcap.com/estore/pc/viewprd.asp?idproduct=50453). That is the beauty of lean! We are always looking for ways to improve...and I have a long ways to go! Paul

Everyday I spend my thoughts inventing ways to improve and cut down on the time it takes to do whatever it is I am doing. I have yet to be able to implement them as precisely as you have. What I find wise about the way you have everything organized in a thought out practical way.
You know that once you are organized with a place for everything it becomes completely useless and a mess if you do not have a secondary or sub system that allows you to identify the obstacles each one comes along with. Example how you used the red magnet to find the drill bit location because you know it is a bitch to waste time finding where it goes in a everything looks the same ocean of organization. Organization is a process whos success depends on the ability to identify the location of its fundamental purpose and return to that state of existence in a decisive motion that carries out the result. A repetitive process that requires identification without having to decide. Your achievement of this is mind blowing!
