I personally work on what is bringing me joy. My hobbies are my stress relievers and I have no judgement on how that looks for people. Have a million projects if you like! I enjoy seeing what you are up to and would love if you never had to worry about what you show us. I just enjoy seeing what you are working on and what is bringing you joy!
I completely agree with you! Some people thrive on having lots of choice and the ability to work short stretches on a project before they switch to another. Other people thrive on having fewer projects and less yarn in their stash. Who are we to judge. Please, you do you. I love you just the way you are!
You are my favourite podcaster on YT! I can relate with the size of your stash - I have enough to last me till I am 200! Regardless, it brings me joy and you inspire me to get to it and create. Thank you 💕
The “overwhelm” is real! I have a deep (DEEP) stash of yarns and fibers - and patterns and fabric. I love having options about what I am called to work on. It’s the process that appeals to me, not necessarily the product, although I like having a project finished. Sometimes the planning satisfies my creative itch and once the project begins I lose interest. I am more excited about Tour de Fleece this year than I have been in years past and I’ve enjoyed getting ready and re-exploring some of the lovely fibers I’ve gathered in the past. Now is their time to shine!
I always have around 10 projects going between knitting, crochet, weave and spinning as well as some slow stitch and kawandi. Eventually they all get done and when I have several finish at the same time, people are amazed on how productive I have been. So funny!! I think a mix of projects keeps your mind interested. We all know that boredom sets in with a project and having others to work on keeps me away from surfing on the net. Keep on with your multiple projects and start as many as you want!!
Who cares how many projects you start? Kate at Hawthorne Cottage Crafts just confessed she has 10 (ten!) pairs of socks on the needles :) Also, wanted to share that last summer my youngest son and I had a memorable day at the zoo and we saw a beautiful red panda. I remember thinking what a beautiful inspiration it would be for fiber. THE NEXT DAY I got an e-mail from Inglenook announcing the shop update with the red panda colourway. Talk about a sign saying I needed to buy fiber! Now its spun up and being knit into a sweater that will always remind me of a special day with my little boy. Love your channel so much!
I have just dusted off my antique spinning wheel after a year of neglect. I have found several new hobbies that I really love. But I must never forget the art of spinning wooly fiber into soft yarn, which then can be made into cozy warm garments. Thanks Lisa for being there❤
I think part of being a creative person is having many interests. This leads, at least for me, to many, many projects, each with a different technique, etc. This gives my very busy brain a chance to switch between what's driving my heart at that moment. Don't let people make you feel conscientious about how many projects you have. Isn't part of the joy in making the exploration what makes us unique? So happy to see a new episode from you!
Only just now have I found some "me time" to watch the podcast today. Thank you so much - enjoyed every minute! Absolutely loved seeing your fibres and spinning. Just happened to be spinning on my Russian spindles while I was watching … 😁 I’m currently doing a conservation breed study and am enjoying every minute. I used to teach craft before the pandemic, then most of my supplies ended up in storage during the lockdown - I’m in the process of sorting stuff out and reinventing myself craft-wise. I have a lot of yarn and fibre, so spinning and weaving are my current focus. Think the book sounds awesome - will have to track down a copy … 😊 Thanx again - Hugs from Darwin, Down Under 😁🌴🌴🌴
Don’t you dare let any negative Nellie bother you!!!! I adore your shows and, I’ll admit, I’m the same way- lots of projects, but they make me happy!! Keep up the good work!!!!
I love your colourwork socks. Nobody need question our creative motivations, intentions and speed of progress. Comments reflecting on them says more about the commenter's expectations of themselves. Spin on my friend!
There is only math IF you want to replicate it. However, dying is my rabbit hole. Once I started I fell in love. I’ve let my kids (the ones I mentioned in my below comment lol) dye sock yarn from knit picks when they were 3 and 5 with bowls of dye (mostly jaquared), a spoon, and all set out on plastic wrap. It’s already presoaked in citric acid to hold the dye, and then they just paint the skein. You then roll up the plastic wrap around the yarn then microwave to set the colors for a few minutes, then let cool if you dont chose to flip. They are my PRETTIEST SOCKS I HAVE. And with this you dont have much bleeding of colors, so they were exactly like what they painted on them. So much fun for a group activity if you have a few people you want to invite over for craft night!
Thank you for this. I think I am making it a bigger deal than it needs to be. Thanks for the tip about soaking in citric acid first. I bet it was loads of fun for you and your kids!
I’m sorry that someone left a negative/unhelpful comment about your unfinished projects. I can’t speak for anyone else, but I have many UFOs and they happen for various reasons-changed my mind, fit isn’t good, yarn isn’t quite right, etc. What matters is the making/creating with your hands, something unique, that brings you joy. So share away with your projects, your UFOs and your stash. You’re speaking my fiber language, for sure! ❤
We used to always visit Toni when she came to Michigan Fiber Fest ❤ My daughter loved STR yarn 🙂 Thank you for keeping things simple with the Ravelry group Lisa, I really appreciate that!
I too have enough yarn to last me until the apocalypse! I'm doing a No Buy July while spinning for the Tour de Fleece. Anything to stop my consumerism madness!
I have an oooover stash as my husband would say . I tend to say I can't have enough or I need a color I don't have so I need the yarn. Either that or I dye the yarn that I need. Or I will dye and spin. I say it is my craft that makes me happy and keeps me from being crabby it's his choice. LoL!
3 ply sock yarn! That sure is a challenge. I can do 2 ply sock yarn but that is super cool for a challenge to do! My next spinning tool will be a support spindle for laceweight to do that :) I am currently spinning for TDF hand dyed cloud top (it came with my espinner from the whoolery so its a mix lol) from each of my kids. 4oz each I weight out,and let them pick the colors. Sylvia (8yo) choose 14 different colors lol. They arnt bad though and Im excited. I’ve just started spinning hers and my son’s (10yo) roving is currently cooking in the dye pot haha😅
Absolutely Love you Batts Lisa. My heart was dancing as I watched you playing with those colors and fibres! 💞 Its been way to long since I dyed fibre and had a play!! 🎉 In a workshop I did we had a mystery bag of fibre, we spun whatever came out next. Then we made a scarf changing the stitchas we came to each color, even swapped from knitting to crochet. It was sooo much fun and liberating. Have fun spinning them 😃
Yay to dyeing!! Get yourself a big plastic Rubbermaid tote, put all your dyestuffs and equipment, and you can just take out the tote, and you are ready to dye on dye day. Mine has been my favorite way to keep the dyeing efficient, and easy to set up clean up. Joy comes from then deciding what to name your newly dyed braids! Have fun. I tend to dye haptically (no planning ahead, just dig in and make color decisions as I work in progress)-I like low water immersion dyeing, and Saran wrapping/microwaving…..having some syringes is a great way to add color in small amounts, too….lots to explore!
I have all the things I need I think. I love the tote idea! Low immersion is the way I am going to go at first. I’m excited and trying to have a sense of play and joy. Thank you 💜
Yay for stash! It's really exciting & motivating to visit your stash! I thoroughly enjoyed watching you make batts & the information you share! Thank you so much ❤ Susannah
Thank you, Lisa, for a wonderful video (again). I appreciate all the work you put into creating these wonderful windows on your crafting world. I’ve been spinning my TDF combo spin while I watch. Your spinning and also your fabulous battlet making are amazing. Have a great Tour. I hope the fractal spin goes well…I was nervous of it once but it’s straightforward really, and whatever you create will be delightful! 😊
It's amazing that every time I put on one of your videos, you are talking about something that I am myself working on, or something I would like to learn. I am learning how to spin English long draws right now, where I am using a coarser wool similar to a mountain breed. I have also taken a course in acid dyeing wool and want to learn how to make colorful batts. Love your videos, they are very inspirational, thank you!
I just popped in to see how you are doing, Lisa! I glanced through some of the comments and agreed with so many of them! I hope you won't let the negative comment(s) get you down. One person said that that's the way she works! Me, too! I'm a spinner, weaver, knitter, dyer, felter and quilter! I can't say which one is my favorite, but that's the way I work. Sometimes I will finish 2 or 3 projects in a week, and BOY! is that ever rewarding!!! Missing you so much! Are you working on a new piano piece? I love it when you finish a segment with your music. Thanks so much for being you!
I love your videos so much Lisa and always look forward to them as they are very well crafted and beautiful to watch and listen to. As for the snarky commenter, perhaps their joy stems from knocking out as many FOs as they can and aren’t interested in experimenting with different things which takes a lot of time and perhaps mistakes. To each his own.
Hi Lisa I always get happiness when I see you have a new podcast. You have inspired me to get my blending board out and create some floof! I dye my own fleece with a small vegetable steamer. I did an online course with Hilltop Katie, which is very practical and I highly recommend and not expensive. It’s so much easier to watch someone do it rather than read from a book - much less intimidating. ❤
Love your videos ❤ I am a spinner, knitter, weaver and long time crochet fan. I always find myself organizing my stash sometimes by color, weight or fiber type. It will look great for a month or two until I change my mind and reorganize again 😅. Being a spinner I think makes it extra challenging for me to tackle my stash. What has really helped me to use my stash faster is weaving, I just finished an overshot table runner using nothing but my handspuns. At least I think I made a dent in my stash 😂. Your knitting is always so stunning 😍
Thank you so much for the shout out and adding the links to my info, I really appreciate it! I just realized we are both in the Midwest, and yes being a teacher means I tend to need to be hyper organized-LOL
Dear Lisa, always a pleasure to see you popping up in my subscriptions ! And I am happy to see I am not alone fighting the "new new new". The socks are so precious and the spinning part so inspirational. I am always amazed at fractal spinning ! Enjoy Tour de Fleece and Tour de France (difficult to get away from the current sad news here) ❤
Hi Lisa, I have fallen down the support chicken hole!!! I am working on number 4 chicken. I can think of so many people to knit one for😂. They are so cute, Im not sure I can give them away.. I have wanted to dye fiber or handspun yarn. Maybe this summer. Enjoy your summer
Resistance is Futile when it comes to that chicken! I have plenty of left over wool from carding etc. to fill quite. few. I bet they looks so cute in handspun 🥰 Do you have your chickens in Ravelry?
rewatching...dont think i finished this episode, and missing you. i just went and had 12 inches of hair cut off... and a pixie cut. seeing you in ths video, we have the same haircut. and i remember watching the begining of this episode soon after it posted and really liking your haircut! guess it stayed with me since!
Hi LIsa, i guess I missed this video. Hope you had a good summer. I have been busy knitting the emotional support chickens. They are so fun. I even knit one out of my handspun.
I knit colourwork socks inside out and knit on the side of the tube furthest away from me (so that you can still knit etc as per the pattern). It works really well because the floats are on the outside of the tube and get a bit longer rather than a bit shorter than needed.
Those colored brades look so fun to spin up. I had someone said to me when I was just starting spinning and wanted to dye wool. They had me go to the store to buy all different kind of Kool-Aid drink packets to use as a cheap dye. It was so fun to do, and if you have a little white wool and try it. Lisa let me know what you think 🤔 about kool-aid drink mix as a dye.😊
that's a beautiful braid! fractals are really fun to spin! :) it get very wild with colors so sometimes it might be hard to find a pattern for, but in my opinion it's very worth it :) enjoy your tour de fleece :)
Thanks for another great episode. Try having fun with dying before you worry too much about the math. I always love to see what you’re working on. This is my favorite channel on RUclips.
I just spun my first fractal and also just got my first Inglenook braids from the last update! The fractal was so much fun! Separating the colors into little piles is very satisfying and then you get to switch colors so often that it never gets boring.
Hiiii We have the same size feet, and those are my first project option from Charlotte's book, plus your needle adjustments and stitching tips make so much sense to me! Thanks for making the entry to this future WIP really easy on me 😆🤗🤗
It’s such a lovely pattern. Mine are done and blocked. Just procrastinating about my next video. I hope you are doing well, Marce. 🥰 Your hash tags #normalizelongtermmaking has been in the forefront of my mind of late. Thank you!
My first Tour de Fleece with a Schact Matchless. Just finished my first bobbin on this wheel and I really have not spun for 25 years. Thanks for inspiring me. I used Dharma dyes.
Color theory is very interesting, isn’t it! Lots of science which I was terrible at in school! 😂 I just ordered the book for book study, sounds interesting. So I’ll be late to the show… Also, checking out the color theory books! Love adding to the library! Found some good prices at Abe Books. 😊 Happy Fourth of July! 🎇🎆
Love your video! I am a lets see what happens dyer myself 🤣 I have had great success with dying and a few amazing failures too. But its all fun really. Your spindles make me want to buy more of them, you have such beautiful tools. Your blended batts are beautiful.
You have such gorgeous 'stuff' in your stash : ), I love all of it! I hope you video your fractal spin and/or vlog your TdF spinning. I have never done a fractal spin myself but I have watched a few YTers do it and I am mesmerized by the whole thing. I don't have the materials to do it myself but I can dream, lol. Thanks for reminding me about the Ravelry group for spinners - I need to go join. Enjoy your fibery fun!
This spring I bought my first fleece. I've scoured it, and next step is dyeing (another first) and then carding different colors together to make heathered shades. Jamieson's of Shetland color sample book is my inspiration. I got Greener Shades dye. Will see how it goes! I look forward to seeing what you create with your color experiments.
Wow I like that the book you have shows how to put the colors together. I feel really intimidated about doing that but like you, I have this dream about being able to dye some of my own fleece. I did find a lady on Etsy, she’s also a content creator here on RUclips that has created recipes for a whole spectrum of colors using dharma acid dyes using just 3 primaries + “fawn” (so 4 total) so at least some of the stress of trying to create the color is done for you. Her name is Lori-Ann and her shop is MuffsMerino. She is wonderful & will help you with any questions.
Hi, Lisa. I just cast on the Swan Lake socks yesterday!😃I have had the project waiting for a while, but want to wear them to a picnic mid July so best get to work on them. Your socks from the book are gorgeous! I used to be a monogamous knitter but in recent years feel like I've taken on too many 'ideas' and built up a significant stash. I wonder if it's because I watch a few knitting podcasts that inspire me continuously. I'm almost relieved that my attempts at learning to spin have not taken hold. I think Sticklebacks (?) are a type of fish. I enjoy your podcast and your book review idea!
Yes, watching knitting podcasts and following knitters in social media makes it difficult not to want to cast in everything! It’s too bad that it takes so little time accumulating materials and so much time making the thing. You’ll be surprised how fast those colorwork socks knit up.
Do you have the book, "Doubleweave Revised & Expanded" (The Weaver's Studio" by Jennifer Moore? I feel like that has stunning examples of how to use color in terms of making fabric. I personally focus on undyed fibers for lace making, but I did make an inkle loom so I will eventually check out some card weaving for my spun yarn. After looking at that book, I have so many ideas and direction on what I want to make for future projects. Thank you for sharing your lovely self. I'm cheering you on your Tour de Fleece challenge!
Hi Lisa, I highly recommend using Landscape Dyes. I dye yarn, roving, and fleece in the crockpot using these dyes. They have the mordant already in the dye so usually the color sets pretty easy. I can email you where I get them if you like. Happy spinning! LuAnn
@@SoulfulSpinning I was using clipchamp and it kept crashing during export. So, used another video editor and couldn't figure out how to add photos. I wanted to share pics from the conference and travels. Oh well.
It is when you take a length of dyed wool and split it in half along the length. You then take one of the halves and further split it vertically into 2,3 or even more. You spin the first half as is. Then you spin each thinner strip to a separate bobbin. Finally you ply together. Whew 😥 that was a lot. Googling may send you down the rabbit hole! Have a great week. 💕
I frequently watch your channel and enjoy it. I’m relatively new to spinning (less than 3yrs) but I’m getting up to speed on a traditional Ashford. I’ve spun mostly natural fibers but recently started spinning a Malabrigo Nube died braid and I’m having a hard time drafting it. I have split it several times and pre-drafted it but still find it hard to draft consistently. Is this common? Just wondering if it is me or the roving? (probably me 🤷😊) Thanks and God Bless Allen
Malabrigo Nube is notoriously hard to spin as it’s quite compacted when you get it. I found subjecting it to steam for a kettle helps to loosen the fibers. Merino is so fine that it likes to stick together! Good luck and let me know if it works. Take care.
@@SoulfulSpinning Thank you so much for the advice and now I don't feel so bad, I thought it was me and my lack of spinning experience or my spinning wheel. I will try the steam on the remainder of the roving (I'm 3/4 of the way done with it now 🙂) Once again thank you and God Bless Allen
I personally work on what is bringing me joy. My hobbies are my stress relievers and I have no judgement on how that looks for people. Have a million projects if you like! I completely agree with you! Some people thrive on having lots of choice and the ability to work short stretches on a project before they switch to another. rewatching...dont think i finished this episode, and missing you. i just went and had 12 inches of hair cut off... and a pixie cut. seeing you in ths video, we have the same haircut. and i remember watching the begining of this episode soon after it posted and really liking your haircut! guess it stayed with me since!
Hurray! I'll be back to watch a little later ❤
that's a beautiful braid! fractals are really fun to spin!
Thank you, Jessica. Blush 😊
I think experience is the best teacher.
💜🖤❤🧡Hello Lisa, hello from France.
Hope you're well. It's been awhile. Let's hope everything is well.
Take care. See you soon.💖💛💚💙
I just spun my first fractal and also just got my first Inglenook braids from the last update! The fractal was so much fun! Separating the colors into little piles is very satisfying and then you get to switch colors so often that it never gets boring.
I am excited to try it. The fiber from Inglenook is so Good!
Always so enjoyable! I hope June was good to you too. Have a wonderful July. Happy creating 💚🧶💚
Perfect weekend! Soulful Spinning and Republic of Me back to back! Thanks Lisa!
I’m so glad to keep you company for a little while. Happy Sunday!
Hiiii
We have the same size feet, and those are my first project option from Charlotte's book, plus your needle adjustments and stitching tips make so much sense to me! Thanks for making the entry to this future WIP really easy on me 😆🤗🤗
It’s such a lovely pattern. Mine are done and blocked. Just procrastinating about my next video. I hope you are doing well, Marce. 🥰
Your hash tags #normalizelongtermmaking has been in the forefront of my mind of late. Thank you!
Fractal yarns are so much fun to spin!!!😊
I’m looking forward to it! Thank you. 💕
My first Tour de Fleece with a Schact Matchless. Just finished my first bobbin on this wheel and I really have not spun for 25 years. Thanks for inspiring me. I used Dharma dyes.
So happy to hear this! Happy spinning. 🤗
Color theory is very interesting, isn’t it! Lots of science which I was terrible at in school! 😂
I just ordered the book for book study, sounds interesting. So I’ll be late to the show…
Also, checking out the color theory books! Love adding to the library! Found some good prices at Abe Books. 😊
Happy Fourth of July! 🎇🎆
Love your video! I am a lets see what happens dyer myself 🤣 I have had great success with dying and a few amazing failures too. But its all fun really. Your spindles make me want to buy more of them, you have such beautiful tools. Your blended batts are beautiful.
So nice, you really have no need. Thank you for sharing.
Hi Lisa! I hope all is well. You are missed. ❤
I am planning to record little vlogs over the next few weeks! Thanks for tuning in. I hope you have a good week. 💕
Hi Lisa, hope you and your family are well. Just to let you know you're missed xx
How fun was it to watch you blend the colors..... and needless to say that straight away I started looking into electric drum carders :) ❤
It is so much fun! Leaving both hands to feed the fiber makes it very easy. Yes, you need one. 🥰
@@SoulfulSpinning when I file the invoice.... I'm sure Mario will thank you personally 🤣
@therepublicofme You’re welcome. 😘
That’s very helpful. Thank you!
@@SoulfulSpinning Thanks, Lisa. The Swans are looking great on sock #1. :D
Loved this edition!
Your socks are soooo cute
Do you have the book, "Doubleweave Revised & Expanded" (The Weaver's Studio" by Jennifer Moore? I feel like that has stunning examples of how to use color in terms of making fabric.
I personally focus on undyed fibers for lace making, but I did make an inkle loom so I will eventually check out some card weaving for my spun yarn. After looking at that book, I have so many ideas and direction on what I want to make for future projects.
Thank you for sharing your lovely self. I'm cheering you on your Tour de Fleece challenge!
I use Landscape Dyes and the colors are fabulous!!
They have the acid built in, is that right? I’ll check them out. Thank you!
Hi Lisa, I highly recommend using Landscape Dyes. I dye yarn, roving, and fleece in the crockpot using these dyes. They have the mordant already in the dye so usually the color sets pretty easy. I can email you where I get them if you like. Happy spinning! LuAnn
I’ll try to get a hold of some. Thanks Luann. I am catching up with your pod today as well!
@@SoulfulSpinning I was using clipchamp and it kept crashing during export. So, used another video editor and couldn't figure out how to add photos. I wanted to share pics from the conference and travels. Oh well.
Love the socks, my feet are big too 😁
I want to “normalize” big feet. 😂
@SoulfulSpinning 😅 Very true my husband and my boys have huge feet too.
Love that you added the links! But I can’t find the channel you referenced for Fleagal supports spins?
Here it is!

🧡💛💚🩵💙💜💗
Love your podcast. So inspiring. But I have to ask. What is “fractile” (sp?) spinning?
(probably me 🤷😊)
Thanks and God Bless
Allen
Malabrigo Nube is notoriously hard to spin as it’s quite compacted when you get it. I found subjecting it to steam for a kettle helps to loosen the fibers. Merino is so fine that it likes to stick together! Good luck and let me know if it works.
Take care.
@@SoulfulSpinning Thank you so much for the advice and now I don't feel so bad, I thought it was me and my lack of spinning experience or my spinning wheel. I will try the steam on the remainder of the roving (I'm 3/4 of the way done with it now 🙂) Once again thank you and God Bless
Allen
@@SoulfulSpinning Thanks so much I will try the steaming…even though I’m 3/4 the way through the braid😂.
I hope you're planning on coming back. You're missed. Hope everything is okay.❤
New video will be out soon. I recorded today! 😊
I'm math challenged. I think weaving is too involved. I'll stick with knitting, crochet and spinning.
Weaving is and can be so technical and looms take up a lot of room.
