- Laundry scent booster
2 cups Epson salt
40 drops of essential oil combo of your choice
I make this and allow it to sit a couple days to soak the oil in.
use 1-2 tablespoons in your laundry when you add your soap and wash as usual.
I use hot water and the deep wash cycle to ensure enough water to not cause stains on your clothes. Be careful if you have an HE washer to use the deep fill.
If you are worried about the impact this may have on your machine please contact your appliance repairman prior to use.

My 22 year old son who has grown up with a crazy ‘all natural’ mama called me the other day and asked if I could make him an essential oil spray to use on wool dryer balls. I tried not to act too surprised or crazy. 😂 Thank you for this recipe! I can’t wait to try it. I’m going to use cedar wood, orange and a blue spruce eo. 😊
That sound like a great combo!!!! I might go add some orange to the one I already made to spice it up a little. I love that your son asked you about that. My kids do the same and it does surprise me since sometimes I figured they don’t notice 😂
I hope he’s not planning on using the wool balls in the dryer with an oil spray on them…..essential oils are flammable…it says right on the packaging. Hopefully it’s just for putting in drawers….otherwise a fire could start.
I'm a Texan, born and bred. My husband is from Pennsylvania. When we visit his family i sound like I'm from rural Alabama. Even I am astounded at how I sound. The longer we are there the worse it gets. 😮
Haha!!!! 😂
I’m E Texan, I love Alabamian Southern. Totally exceptional
I have a scent sensitive condition. I was diagnosed by an allergist. So I’m aware of what scents trigger me with migraine and dizziness.Imitation coconut is my worst for me. Yes those Downey beads also don’t help. I work with a lot of women and they wear so many scents going on I have a long day when I have to work especially with the one who wears vanilla cream biscotti cookie scent 🤢. Were suppose to a fragrance free environment they still wear it. I can’t go into bath and body store or lush bath bombs . I’m glad I come across your channel. Thanks
My hubby is the same way. I use to manage one of those highly fregranced stores like you mentions and my clothes, purse, everything smelled all the time. My car seats smelled so bad my hubby couldn’t stand it. So glad I’m out of that environment now. I had no idea how bad it was at the time.
@@LittleHillHomesteadGa yes I was asked by sister to reupholster her lil bench with new material and it smelled so bad from the scented candles she used all the time. When I go to her house she not allowed to burn candles and I have to use dish soap to wash my hands after using the washroom. She is crazy addicted to bath and body crap. Also she not allowed to wear perfume and I drive when we go on a road trip. Sometimes it can be a chore to go out men’s cologne gags me.
I personally love perfume but people have to be extremely close to me to smell it. I hate it when women wear scents that are overpowering
@@LollyB1963 I’ve noticed that the women who are adverse to scents often don’t wear makeup or fix themselves up a whole lot. Which is really cool. To each his own. A lot of them were older as well. I figured when perfumes were heavy in times past, white diamonds, Coco, Opium, l’air du Temps. Versace, it was then that many women who did not wear fragrances in the first place, developed mysterious “allergies” to fragrance. And here in 2024 are still having the same chocking sensation as when everybody ran around smelling like Charlie. Have you ever found a light, fresh fragrance that suits you, perhaps it would desensitize you or provide some kind of protection against others scents.
I quite similar. Am able to handle real citrus. Sweet will cause silent migraine, Ora can see. In a snap. I feel for you. Research green light bulbs for migraine help.❤
bergamot is a mood elevator and smells great. It's my fave
Yes!
Mine too
I'm from Southern California but moved to Georgia 35 years ago. Although as a general rule I have a "generic" accent, I often find myself picking up accents from people I interact and converse with. Also, over time I have picked up a few colloquialisms in my speech patterns such as "y'all" and "gunna". Many thanks for the laundry and scent tips! You now have a new subscriber!
Someone once asked me if I was from California. They said they could tell since I was loud and obnoxious 😂 his mom was also from California so I guess it was a term of Endearment
I also put essential oils on my Wool dryer balls And put them in my drawer
Sorry dryer
I do too! Smell so good!!
Do you get oil spots on your clothing at all?
@@aimeetorres323 i don't get oil spots, that i've noticed.
Where can i buy wool dryer balls?
I have never tried this before, but I have dropped essential oil into free and clear Downey. I love Jasmine and Bergamot scents.
Thank you for this video. I switched my laundry soap out a while ago, but I needed something like this to add to my regimen.
Thank you so much for doing this. ❤. I've wanted to add essential oils to my wash for a while now. I have one thought to share. Scents have different notes: Top, middle, and base. Look up scents when you are making combinations. The base scents will help the other scents last longer or could over power your other scents. The top note is the one that disappears the quickest. 😊
lol - I was raised primarily in the South, so...a mish mash of Southern and other accents. I love it. But when we visit South Louisiana where my husband is from, after 3 days I'm picking it up. I know that if I stayed for 2 weeks, I'd sound just like 'em. But mais, a Cajun accent is a beautiful one!
I used to live in Louisiana. We didn't go grocery shopping, we were "making groceries" LOL LOL Being from WI, people would ask me if I knew Laverne and Shirley!! LOL LOL Told them they lived downtown and I lived in the burbs. They were always disappointed.
That’s fantastic!
😂
I love your cookstove!!!
Her name is Pearl. Thank you!
I put coconut oil in my scent lamp and add a few drops each of lavender oil and lemon oil. I love that combo. I also put it in the water of my rainbow vac. Now I’ll be putting it in my “new” clothes scent. Thank you!
Another use…I sometimes sprinkle a little bit of the store brand laundry scent booster onto my kitchen floor and vacuum it up first and then the rest of my home. The scent gets through my home and smells great for a while. Thank you for your awesome videos!!!! 🥰😇
Please don’t you’re spreading very harmful chemicals all through your house
While I love this idea, be warned. I used this and it left subtle oil stains on my clothes, most noticeable on tshirts. I believe it is because these new washing machines use very little water and the clothes don’t get tossed around like the machines of old with full drums of water being agitated by a swirling agitator which pulls the clothes down and around. Those dryer balls with oils did the same for me. If I could use this I definitely would as I love EOs and use them every chance I get. If a had an older washer, I would use it again though. Thank you!
Oh no! I always use the deep fill and haven’t had an issue. I’m so sorry!
@@LittleHillHomesteadGawhat are EOs and deep fills? New subscriber here, first video for me
@@judytruesdell6816 EOs are essential oils and deep fills is the water level in your washer so a deep fill is the most water in the drum.
My mom had this problem and did research and read to throw a half a cup of baking soda in, mix with salt, then add scent, works great!
@@lynanneconnors2688 thanks so much
I am making a note to myself to split this out to maybe 4 different scents. Just to see what I like. I anticipate wanting a different scent for sheets and towels and a different scent for clothes. Hmmmm… love how you provide some basic recipes/ideas/thought-starters that I can play with and make my own. And you make me laugh while you’re doing it. :-)
That's a great idea!
I love the smell of Honeysuckle. Gonna try this. Maybe! Just purchased a new washer and don’t want to gunk it up.
That's my concern as well. Mine is 15 yrs old, but never used Downey, etc because they can really gum up your machine. Also only use wool dryer balls because dryer sheets do the same and leave a film on your clothes.
I absolutely love your channel. My daughter has very sensitive skin and lots of allergies. And I have been looking for simple recipes to make stuff for her. I am so glad I found you.
I love that you are human and you have a beautiful energy. Thanks
Wow, thank you!
First video I am watching from you and I immediately had to subscribe bc of your fun personality!!! Excited to watch more!! ❤
Yay! Thank you!
Same here ❤
I can't wait to try this, thank you!!! My mother uses those scented chemical pellets, I try to tell her they are NOT good but she ignores me 🙄 Maybe I will whip her up a batch of this and see if I can't convert her 😁
Make sure to use full load water or you will get oil stains on clothes
I love this. I hate buying fabric softener.
Thanks
We will have fabric softened tomorrow!
I have lived in several different states across the country and have a blend of accents in my speech. I pick it up like a chameleon in each environment, none of each ever goes completely away.
Fall is my favourite time of year. Thanks for the recipe again.
Thanks for the recipe! Love the idea of no chemicals. Also, love your stove, my Mom had one just like it before she 'upgraded " to her more modern one in the '60's. I would have loved the extra storage area for hot pots between the burners!
I've been doing this for years now. Sometimes I add table salt as well for washing sweaty gym clothes. So good and can be personalised as well. Greetings from Australia. ❤
How much salt? Assuming it absorbs sweat? Appreciate it!
Thank you for all of your information and craft ideas!
I am from the Midwest. When I got hired at a new store coming into town, they brought a training team from the south. Heavy accents. I answered the phones. People started asking me what southern state I was from. I picked up the training team's accent. No one else did...just me. When they left, my accent reverted back to the Midwest accent.
I’ve heard that this picking up accents of people you interact with is a subconcious empathetic response.
@@Mary-fy3tc I have heard that also.
This happens to me when I watch a movie that has people with different accents. Next thing I know, my internal dialogue has an accent.
I’m from NJ. When I would visit my grandparents in NC for the Summer it would take me a week to drop the southern accent ❤
Lol. When we would visit family in KY, mom said it would take 10 days to get me back to speaking "Indiana " 😅
Excited to try this.
This tutorial was awesome!! Thank you for sharing!
I am loving your household recipes…look forward to more in the future. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
You are so welcome!
for 50 yrs i use vinegar & baking soda,, no fading..and my smokey pillows get fresh.
Watch out that vinegar doesn’t start to corrode your washer. Coming from someone whom it’s happened to
@@yvonnelanese-coppola4999 tyvm.
My son has said:
“Mom, you do realize your not southern, right?”
My answer is:
“Yes, but I’m at the age where I don’t care how or what accent I’ve taken on, just adapt!! And if one day I get into a coma, I hope I develop a southern accent when I wake up!!”
I do talk southern to my grandkids as well as I talk like the grinch to my pups!
I love that!
What a great compliment for southern gals.❤❤❤
First...I am placing an order for some essential oils today 😊 Second...please tell me the year and model of your oven. I have been looking for one, but I absolutely love yours with the burners separated like that! Seems awesome for canning pots 😃
Aww, thanks! Our oven is a 1920’s Preway. I’ve only ever seen the one. Apparently they only made a handful of them. The burners set apart make it a canning stove.
Love the recipe. As husband approaches retirement I’m looking to see where I can same a little money. I use the scent beads primarily in my sleepwear and sheets. Love my lavender.
As a homesteader, have you thought about trading out that beautiful electric stove for gas? I’m sure in S. California you don’t think about power outages much but in an event, you could still cook whereas your electric stove will be useless. Just a thought from one homesteader to another.
Be safe, Be prepared, Be Blessed
Sadly where we are in Georgia gas isn’t an option or I would have in a heartbeat 💗
@@LittleHillHomesteadGa did not know that about Georgia. Thanks for the info
Just came across your site and cannot believe talking about laundry could be so funny. Go girl!
Thank you! ☺️
You had me a dollar gentral..new subbie❤❤❤
🤗 welcome.
I laughed so much when you went on about accents. I was all that's me too. My view is Californians don't tend to have accents unless you're from the Valley so we pick up accents very easily when we've relocated to other parts of the country.
I'm going to have to try this since strong scents don't agree with my sinuses and body.
I’ve never been more excited about a series! Thank you!
I'm so glad!
Thank you for this!! It was the impetus I needed to buy peach essential oil and I am currently making every possible thing I can😅
Love your stove !
Aww, thank you! I need to do a video on her. We get so many compliments and questions and she would love to show off. 😂
❤ and try neroli oil,a lovely citrusy smell
So good!
Thank you for sharing, I will definitely try it. I love how bubbly and cheerful you are.
Thank you so much!
What a brilliant idea! A must try for me!
I use Epsom salt in my laundry soap recipe. I use the scented Epsom salt so that there is some scent to the detergent.
Great idea!!
Thank you for sharing. I love having a bit of a scent on our towels, but I don't care for the store bought ones. I will try this. ❤
I love you the way you are please never ever change. you teach some great things that I at 60 don't know. I use a lot of the things that you talk about because I learned how to do them from you. This one I am going to keep and also make for my sister and granddaughter they bother have really sensitive skin
Wow, thank you!
Thank you very much!!!
I have been looking for something like this for a long time! Thank you so much I love your witty humor!
You are so welcome!
Love watching your videos. I feel like I am watching a good friend. Keep up the good videos.
I made wool dryer balls. I put a drop of essential oil on each and it softly scents the clothes. No risk of oil staining clothes in the washer.
Thank you!

I am loving all of your recipes for household items. I am going to try these for sure! I love smells, and it is nice to know these are healthier. Thank you!
Thanks
I use baking soda in place of laundry soap along with Castile soap and add orange or lemon to the wash. Comes out nice.
I just scribed! Love this!
You said 40 cups of essential oil, LOL!! (Toward the end.) Had a good laugh about that. Thanks for sharing this recipe/gift idea.
I heard that too and got a good chuckle!! I'm like her late in the day. No telling what I might say (nice words of course) and often with a Southern accent.😆
Someone else pointed that out. Goodness I should edit my videos! 😂

When you do the “dryer sheets,” do they take care of static cling as well? Your videos on laundry are amazing, by the way! I just happened to catch your scent boost video in my newsfeed and now I’m hooked. So easy and so cheap!!! I love it! Thank you so much. 💜💜💜
Yes and no. Better but if it’s a really clingy fabric it isn’t as good as the other ones but close.
vinegar rinse is the best
Love this!!
Dollar Gentral- I say that too lol. Me, naw girl! I love Lilac and Rose. Lavender or Linen is a no go for me!
Thank you! New subbie here. I'm from North Carolina and have no shame of my accent anymore. When I was a teenager I was embarrassed of it. Take care
Thanks for subbing!
Oh and epson salt makes your water hard and rusts inside of the metal of your machine!
Washing Soda or Borax soften water!
@laffytaffy2916 I have never heard of that. We always have to put salt in our water softening system. So what is it in Epsom salt that causes it to rust?
Just found your channel and subscribed. Great ideas
Welcome aboard!
I have everything to make that , even the jar.😂 So I think I will.❤️
I absolutely love the Dr tears milk and honey. I put it in the wash, and rinse cycles for my sheets and towels. 😊

Yay! Thank you!
You also just made bath salts.
Sure did! Good catch.
Thank you so much for this information. Can we use fragrance oils instead of essential oils? I'm a soap maker so I have a ton of fragrance oils. Thank you so much!
I’m not 100% sure but I bet you could. I’d make a small batch and give it a try.
@@LittleHillHomesteadGa Thank you. I'll give it a try.

Sprinkle it on the clothes in the washer.
Oh man , now I’ve gotta change up my laundry soaps.
I want to use a vanilla scented laundry soap and throw in an orange and cardamom scent booster.
Gonna smell like some kind of fresh baked cookies all dang day lmao, I can’t wait.
Sounds delicious!
I’ve got a question….if this Epsom salt with scent is added to the laundry machine when adding detergent, does the scent remain even after it has gone through the rinse cycle?
Or is it best added to the rinse cycle?
Keep your ideas coming.
I look forward to seeing you!
Abundant blessings!
It sticks around. It’s light but still there. The salt doesn’t break down if you add it later in my experience.
@@LittleHillHomesteadGa I did make up the Epsom salt mix and used it in the wash cycle. I’m disappointed that after the laundry was completed, and dried….there was no scent detected at all. 😮
What brand oils do you use?
I just found your channel. I love it and think you’re great. Thank you for sharing this
I enjoyed your recipe and your personality. Just a tad of advice. It would be best to say "no toxic chemicals". Essential oils are made up of chemical compounds and are chemical . Just good ones. You also might want to check out the IFRA guidelines for essential oils. (I am an organic skincare formulator).
Keep up the good work. Awesome that you share with others.
Thanks for the tips!
I use dry measuring cups for dry ingredients and liquid measuring cups for dry ingredients. I noticed you used a liquid measurer for dry ingredients.
They are close enough that I interchange them on stuff like this. Baking I use the correct ones.
@@LittleHillHomesteadGa I am ocd.
I do, too! I think I learned that from home economics class YEARS ago
Thank you for sharing! Is this safe for all washers?
If you have an HE I would use hot water and deep fill. I haven’t tried it in a front load so I’m honestly not sure. 🤔
Could you use baking soda instead of Epsom salts?
Some people do half and half. I use baking soda in my laundry soap so I don’t add it to this
Hi. I was looking for a way to put essential oils/scent in my laundry. I was putting it in w vinegar but it wasn't leaving any scent. I will definitely subscribe and try this.
I’ll make this for sure! Thanks
I loved cedar oil. Also, fleas and biting insects hate it. I use it on my pets.
I will be doing this right away. Thanks
Can you recommend a good budget friendly essential oil brand and best place to get them? Thank you!
Typically I look on Amazon and look for certain scents and choose the low price ones. I like the basic kits that have a handful of options.
I like vitality extracts, good products and prices. I used to buy other brands but retired and this one is more affordable.
@@valeden4725 great thank you!!
Just beware of cheap essential oils if you are trying to stay away from "perfume" chemicals. Sadly a lot of cheap oils only have a fraction of true essential oils rest is chemical garbage. I think Now brand is ok, I'm sure there are others😊
