I love how you can hear very little hints of the chant Kyrie Eleison, a Gregorian Chant which literally translates to “Lord Have Mercy.” You have outdone yourself Naktigonis!
A few things I've learned from analysing some of Naktigonis' compositions: - The "To Sleep, Dreaming" motif is pure genius due to the fact that it can be played to serve many different functions by reharmonisation; the original Contours were completely designed around this concept as the harmony changes to serve a different function with all except Contour 4. - The two most commonly used motifs in the whole OST so far are the "To Sleep, Dreaming" motif and the "Oscillation" motif, and they're both used to serve different functions within the songs they're placed. "To Sleep, Dreaming" is mainly associated with things that happen on the surface (it's present in almost all songs that take place above the water) whereas Oscillation is associated with the Depths. - Naktigonis, in Whisperwind, and "The Storm that Speaks", modifies the "Oscillation" melody to descend with portamento after it finishes, which sets up an unresolved tension in the harmony, which is what immediately clues in the player that they descended deeper into the Depths - the music falls down yet further than Oscillation. - The majority of the songs that are played in the Depths have the Oscillation motif, except Ascension (Interlude). As it is linked with the overworld, Ascension has the "To Sleep, Dreaming" motif as its melody, however the genius aspect is that the timbre is changed fundamentally from a percussive/string instrument (what it is normally) to a voice, several voices, singing in unison. Not only that, but the functional harmony of "To Sleep, Dreaming" is once again shown as it resolves to a triumphant chord at the end. - "To Sleep, Dreaming", is also heard in "The End.", except slowed down and not quite in time, representing the last fragments of self attempting to make sense of themselves. - "To Sleep, Dreaming" also appears in "Lacrimosa Dies Illa", one of the only songs from the Depths to use it (as far as I can tell with my small brain), representing how the player needs to survive to get back up to the surface. - Lastly, Kyrie is a masterpiece. Latin lyrics for the theme of the game (around the mixture of ancient religion, medieval legend and modern elements too), and NOT TO MENTION WHAT THEY TRANSLATE TO. In New Kyrsa, the lore says that the inhabitants are stuck in a time loop. I personally think Ethiron has something to do with that, and so do the citizens. The line translates to "Lord, have Mercy." This is not only a Roman catholic chant often sung in masses, but the way that it's used here is so clever - the Latin reinforcing the religious inspiration PLUS being a cry for help from the inhabitants. Literally screaming out "Have mercy on us!". The music picking up over time to morph into an absolute cacophony of hopelessness. I'll add more later, but this level of composition and ingenuity is outright criminal. I wish Deepwoken wasn't a Roblox game so it would be socially acceptable for more older adults to play this, because the fact that something which parallels if not exceeds most games with 'good' soundtracks is so relatively unknown is a crime. I think all aspiring music producers who've heard you want to be like you, Naktigonis. And I doubt that any of them will ever reach your sublime highs. I just hope you know how much of a genius you are. EDIT: Okay, so something I've noticed as well is that Nakti uses triplets to make grooves pop more. Lacrimosa Dies Illa, there's a triplet pattern in the percussion, which complements the vocal melody by landing on off-beats and standard beats alike. Furthermore, the To Sleep Dreaming motif in that is played straightly, so you get this groove that pops amazingly. Then of course, the lytics taken from Dies Irae, continuing the link between Deepwoken's world and inspirations from 15th century liturgical beliefs and how they could be twisted. Also the chant is used in funerals, which is why it's played when you get into combat in the Depths - it'll be your funeral. Similarly, in Pyres Of Glass, there's a triplet percussion thing in the back too. They're everywhere and they add so much.

This man alone has revived my fascination with experimental music genres. His talent is in a category that exceeds everything that you ever thought you knew about music. People can listen to your music and know the entire story behind the world you created without even playing this game. Truthfully the music of this game is even better recognized than the game itself, and as much as i love deepwoken, I must say its well deserved. I’m glad i get to be part of this artist’s journey through the world of music and the worlds he can so easily create.
o' lord have mercy, this has got to be my favorite song in deepwoken so far. it's so out there, so different, ethereal in nature. it has those familiar depths layer one and two motifs slipping in and out with haunting vocals echoing in the background. somber, distant, and full of remorse. and then, it just goes into a full fledged CHANT. like the entirety of the city is calling out around you. which is just so fucking intense and chilling. i won't recover from this for a long time. naktigonis has truly outdone himself. and my LORD. the backing piano throughout all of it. there's just... something about it I can't even put into to words. to top it off, it's one of the few songs I don't clearly recognize a 'to sleep dreaming' motif in. that's GOT to mean something. sorry if that was nerdy as hell LMAO. i love this song sm!!!
this gives me huge made in abyss vibes and as a big kevin penkin fan, i really admire how you're both amazing at composing such mysterious melodies that impact the atmosphere so differently cant wait to see more!
This has got to be the best piece in the soundtrack. All of the tracks are really great at capturing an atmosphere for the area it's used on, be it the Duke's epic battle theme or the insanity-inducing combat theme for Layer 2, but this... It's all the mystery and beauty the city of New Kyrsa has to present when you see it for the first time, transformed into sound. Truly amazing.
the song alone may be insane, but reading the description when listening to the song boosts the experience by so much I find it incredible how naktigonis can every time find a quote or story that fits and feels exactly how the song does. It gives so much extra insight to the song and the area in which its in that the only thing I can call it is simply incredible
hearing the unique sounds of 1:53 and the mesmerizing backgrounds really makes you think that these people are trapped in kyrsa and have been trapped there for a long time this music is truly extraordinary
I think (this may be wrong) that the backgrounds are images of soap bubbles upon water, photoshop edited for transparency, color, and (I think) a few holes in the image.
This theme mixed with the sad lore of all the people down there really hits different. It really would suck being stuck in a place where time no longer matters
Here from after the premiere, I didn't think the song could go any harder and you dropped this bombshell on us. I really hope you continue to work on the Deepwoken soundtrack for a long time as nobody else could make the game feel so alive with the soundtrack.
Much like oscillation, this has the vibe of calm before the storm. Its a bit more ominous here, but the vibe never changes. There's an additional vibe that is sad... Remorseful. A city lost. Very fitting. Love the fractal pattern in the background. As usual, a banger. Good one. And because new Kyrsa in lore is equivilent to the city of R'lyeh, this is the one place where i could just put "Ph'nglui mglw'nafh Cthulhu R'lyeh wgah'nagl fhtagn" and it would make sense
The emotion, the feeling from this music, it’s showing, the amount of emotion and love you put into this is incredible, another beautiful work by you, Naktigonis.

Coming back to this two weeks after premiere and...Damn. This whole song is another example of conveying an audionarrative storytelling conveying the story and vibe of an area masterfully. "Kyrie Eleison", from my limited knowledge, means "Lord, Have Mercy". With the lore of the kyrsgarde in mind, the implications of the chant throughout become far more grim and tragic (Especially with the sense of desperation as the chant comes to a close). Second thing I enjoy is that, upon listening more carefully, you can hear the remnants of familiar leitmotifs that only barely reach Kyrsa (Oscillation and the Eternal Gale motifs especially). Overall, the song is beautiful and conveys so much, effervescent work from my favourite Musical Man, and i'm excited for the eventual release of Hammer's Call so I can go on a tangent about that too
You've made me realize just how overqualified for the job you are with every new upload, the sheer improvement with each song is on an unprecedented level. Keep at it, you beautiful beautiful bastard
New Kyrsa in an ironic way is one of the most peaceful places in all of Deepwoken. I really think the music is what sets that tone, as without it, the locals jumping you would just make it seem as hostile as any place.
there's a crazy contrast between this and insomnia, yet they flow between each other perfectly. wild how "beautiful" layer 2 is, sucks what we wound up doing to it
Would've loved for the vocals to be on a separate audio layer in-game, and to only be audible when near a Kyrsgarde NPC. It'd be such a fantastic easter egg, and further hint at the fact that they're not in control of themselves. Either way, a gorgeous piece for a gorgeous slice of this world I've fallen in love with. One of my favorite tracks off the OST so far.
I love this theme, it tells such a tragic story with what'd be considered extremely calming music. I love how there's moments where it sounds somewhat ominous as if the track itself is reminding you that this isn't a safehaven, your not done yet. Keep up the awesome work!
This is by far my favourite ost of the soundtrack, the slow and sombre buildup of the song (especially when the flute starts playing) is SO well made i genuinley had chills when i first heard it, and was my first interaction with deepwoken 😭 (i bought the game and safe to say im enjoying it a lot)
it's kind of insane though, looking at the background you can see the same holes design as was in the first floor (the holes with the red light coming through), letting u know that at least in the song you haven't truly escaped it i love the detail to these song backgrounds Sorry i major dumbass and failed to realize that the holes are in the entire song
listening to this while thinking about what all the NPCs in layer 2 say kinda makes me emotional ngl, deepwoken would never hit so hard if it wasn't for your music, you really have an insane amount of talent
When you listen to this song on constant loop, you end up forgetting it's there in a RUclips video, but it just keeps rolling like it has become an actual part of your environment. Just like them, they will forget they are stuck in a loop but still suffering from it because it's the only thing they keep doing eternally. It's like joining their suffering. And I love that.
“This place used to be flourishing, blooming with knowledge and new ideas. People collaborating and constantly making new inventions… All of that is gone.”
I can’t believe I’m saying this for a Roblox game, but god the music you make is some of the best I have ever heard. You fluently tell stories and describe things just by music. Thank you for inspiring me to further pursue music. Common Nakti W.

how much insperation, if any, do you take from Kevin Penkin and his work on Made in Abyss cause bro the Made in Abyss vibes I get from some of these OSTs is near unlimited I love it!
i took some inspiration from his MiA works for a few tracks ('The Killing Wind' and, if i recall correctly, a bit of 'Oscillation'), but he's not really a main source of direct inspiration for me - though i do admire his work greatly!
This theme gives me the vibe like it's from made in abyss. Great theme in general even though I would probably never reach floor 2 lol. Keep making amazing themes man.
First time going to floor 2 and listening to this on New Kyrsa feels somewhat incredible Such a calm ost in such a dangerous zone where not any diver has go yet without dying on the attempt (Or I think so, not so into the lore atm) I really love this theme (Yes, I wiped on floor 2 because some Kyrsans attacked on bulk lmao)
"The First City's fall defines every subsequent event in the history of the Neath. It is the moment of transition from a world of shadows and beasts to a world of men; that is to say, the boundary between pre-history and History." -Fallen London, "Examine traces of the First City" Storylet
You never fail to disappoint me mr gonis. You deserve every praise and respect for your work not just on deepwoken but other games as well. I can only describe your ability to tell stories through music as phenomenal. Keep up the great work man. Love you bro ❤
From what I’ve heard about this song it sort of feels like what the future could be, and looking and and pushing forward while all the other themes in the depths seem to focus on what’s happening right now. Naktigonis is peak
@@Username-jx2ij Well, it's decent answer. It's like aliens, they got better technologies than people (or not really people lol) in overworld. Npc in the ruined subway tells you about this.
i actually shed a tear when i really listened to this for the first time, it's baffling how well you can compose music for a ROBLOX game out of anything
something i've realized is that this song feels like you want to do something, like you want to make a change, and yet you know deep down that there really isn't anything you can do. the lost inhabitants of layer 2 floor 2, stuck in a timeloop, must know the feeling of helplessness all too well.
Kyrsa reminds me of the city R'lyeh, an underwater city in the South Pacific where Cthulhu was trapped under. Its worshippers would chant "Ph'nglui mglw'nafh Cthulhu R'lyeh wgah'nagl fhtagn" which translates to "In his house at R'lyeh, dead Cthulhu waits dreaming." It would be so fucking horrifying if the Kyrsgardes would chant in a Kyrsan language, that; "In his house at Kyrsa, dead Ethiron waits dreaming." ...
Nak why do you have to make this go so hard? Now I'm gonna be getting wiped so many times because I'm gonna get distracted from the music and go full immersion mode and die while jamming out 💀
Silly fact: Every single person in the lore depends on you for their survival at this very moment. If you fail to kill the scion of ethiron, *everyone dies because the actual god wakes up.* I died once, a timeline where everyone and everything was snapped in half due to my inability to do enough damage in time with a gale hero’s blade, which is sad to think about. It could’ve not ended up that way if I was just a bit more careful. It is just one little timeline though, and I have a good one which I have a fully progressed dawnwalker. I feel like some bored person will stumble upon this one day, not even expecting a brain dump and to whoever reads this, thank you for reading this silly comment.
This gives me a dreadful feeling of nostalgia... I have no idea why, but it just sends chills down my spine... I really don't have a clue to why it's familiar, even though I already felt this way when I first listened to it. Anyways, great job on the music, Naktigonis!
Naktigonis man, I love you. A few things I've learned from analysing some of Naktigonis' compositions:
- The "To Sleep, Dreaming" motif is pure genius due to the fact that it can be played to serve many different functions by reharmonisation; the original Contours were completely designed around this concept as the harmony changes to serve a different function with all except Contour 4.
The line translates to "Lord, have Mercy." Literally screaming out "Have mercy on us!".
Furthermore, the To Sleep Dreaming motif in that is played straightly, so you get this groove that pops amazingly. Then of course, the lytics taken from Dies Irae, continuing the link between Deepwoken's world and inspirations from 15th century liturgical beliefs and how they could be twisted. true
I really cannot express how this theme alone reminds me of CrossCode, one of my favorite games of all time
This track perfectly captures the anxiety and curiosity of going from the eternal gale to somewhere safer, but deadlier
As someone who hasn’t even made it past the first Bone-Keeper, that sounds rather baleful.

it's kind of insane though, looking at the background you can see the same holes design as was in the first floor (the holes with the red light coming through), letting u know that at least in the song you haven't truly escaped it
i love the detail to these song backgrounds
Sorry i major dumbass and failed to realize that the holes are in the entire song

Naktigonis once again proving they're the goat
listening to this while thinking about what all the NPCs in layer 2 say kinda makes me emotional ngl, deepwoken would never hit so hard if it wasn't for your music, you really have an insane amount of talent
I don't care what you think this is truly DEEPWOKEN PEAK
Beautiful track. Really makes you feel the weight of humanities despair within the depths.
People collaborating and constantly making new inventions…
All of that is gone.”
Oh my beloved Naktigonis. Are you ever gonna make a bad song? Or will you continue to put out these life-changing bangers. Oh my Naktigonis.
I can’t believe I’m saying this for a Roblox game, but god the music you make is some of the best I have ever heard. You fluently tell stories and describe things just by music. Thank you for inspiring me to further pursue music. Common Nakti W.

Nakti ur the definition of that meme video of the pianist playing the piano on fire
im flabbergasted this OST is too damn good
Probably unintentional, but the visualiser kinda reminds me of how bone tissue looks under microscope, and it's pretty interesting considering how often bones are something of importance in layer 2
if it weren’t for the bones u wouldn’t be able to stun scion
Amazing, I’m glad to have someone like you to bring our immersion to life with these beautiful soundtracks.
Starts at 12 midnight 💀
can't wait to lose sleep over this banger
Thank you for all Naktigonis❤
Why do you decide the background for each ost the way you do? I feel like it has symbolism to something
a mix of trying to match the vibes and visuals of the in-game area + chromesthesia B)
Hearing Naktigonis before was a blessing and who could’ve guessed it only gets better
how much insperation, if any, do you take from Kevin Penkin and his work on Made in Abyss cause bro the Made in Abyss vibes I get from some of these OSTs is near unlimited I love it!
i took some inspiration from his MiA works for a few tracks ('The Killing Wind' and, if i recall correctly, a bit of 'Oscillation'), but he's not really a main source of direct inspiration for me - though i do admire his work greatly!
@@naktigonis Oh cool! Keep up the great work!

(Yes, I wiped on floor 2 because some Kyrsans attacked on bulk lmao)
🙏you deserve better

"The First City's fall defines every subsequent event in the history of the Neath. It is the moment of transition from a world of shadows and beasts to a world of men; that is to say, the boundary between pre-history and History."
-Fallen London, "Examine traces of the First City" Storylet
You never fail to disappoint me mr gonis. You deserve every praise and respect for your work not just on deepwoken but other games as well. I can only describe your ability to tell stories through music as phenomenal. Keep up the great work man. Love you bro ❤
From what I’ve heard about this song it sort of feels like what the future could be, and looking and and pushing forward while all the other themes in the depths seem to focus on what’s happening right now. Naktigonis is peak
man never visited floor 2
In floor 2 its more about how alien yet familiar it feels
floor 2 doesn't have anything to do with the future
in fact it's a glimpse into a remnant of the past
@@Username-jx2ij Well, it's decent answer. It's like aliens, they got better technologies than people (or not really people lol) in overworld. Npc in the ruined subway tells you about this.
Tbh I wasn’t really talking about the context of the story, more of how the song feels if you took Deepwokens story out of the picture
IT SOUNDS EVEN BETTER AAAH
I can't stop returning to this, it's so well put together, actual master piece imo
The voices are saying "KYRIE ELEISON" if you turn on captions which means "Lord, have mercy on us."
i actually shed a tear when i really listened to this for the first time, it's baffling how well you can compose music for a ROBLOX game out of anything
This Ost made me beat Ethiron with joy even after getting wiped.
something i've realized is that this song feels like you want to do something, like you want to make a change, and yet you know deep down that there really isn't anything you can do. the lost inhabitants of layer 2 floor 2, stuck in a timeloop, must know the feeling of helplessness all too well.
Kyrsa reminds me of the city R'lyeh, an underwater city in the South Pacific where Cthulhu was trapped under. Its worshippers would chant "Ph'nglui mglw'nafh Cthulhu R'lyeh wgah'nagl fhtagn" which translates to "In his house at R'lyeh, dead Cthulhu waits dreaming."
It would be so fucking horrifying if the Kyrsgardes would chant in a Kyrsan language, that;
"In his house at Kyrsa, dead Ethiron waits dreaming."
...
reminds me of the like 30 minute runs looking for medallion chests
Holy
Nah man pretty sure the scion is to weak to summon the actual one
damnn I woke up a drowned god
So playful and yet mysterious... You've finally escaped the gale, but where exactly are we now?
Deepwokens mute music button is overrated
LOL fr
This gives me a dreadful feeling of nostalgia... I have no idea why, but it just sends chills down my spine...
I really don't have a clue to why it's familiar, even though I already felt this way when I first listened to it.
Anyways, great job on the music, Naktigonis!
