I love how you can hear very little hints of the chant Kyrie Eleison, a Gregorian Chant which literally translates to “Lord Have Mercy.” You have outdone yourself Naktigonis!
Much like oscillation, this has the vibe of calm before the storm. Its a bit more ominous here, but the vibe never changes. There's an additional vibe that is sad... Remorseful. A city lost. Very fitting. Love the fractal pattern in the background. As usual, a banger. Good one. I’m glad i get to be part of this artist’s journey through the world of music and the worlds he can so easily create.
This has got to be the best piece in the soundtrack. All of the tracks are really great at capturing an atmosphere for the area it's used on, be it the Duke's epic battle theme or the insanity-inducing combat theme for Layer 2, but this... It's all the mystery and beauty the city of New Kyrsa has to present when you see it for the first time, transformed into sound. Truly amazing.
the song alone may be insane, but reading the description when listening to the song boosts the experience by so much I find it incredible how naktigonis can every time find a quote or story that fits and feels exactly how the song does. It gives so much extra insight to the song and the area in which its in that the only thing I can call it is simply incredible
A few things I've learned from analysing some of Naktigonis' compositions: - The "To Sleep, Dreaming" motif is pure genius due to the fact that it can be played to serve many different functions by reharmonisation; the original Contours were completely designed around this concept as the harmony changes to serve a different function with all except Contour 4. - The two most commonly used motifs in the whole OST so far are the "To Sleep, Dreaming" motif and the "Oscillation" motif, and they're both used to serve different functions within the songs they're placed. "To Sleep, Dreaming" is mainly associated with things that happen on the surface (it's present in almost all songs that take place above the water) whereas Oscillation is associated with the Depths. - Naktigonis, in Whisperwind, and "The Storm that Speaks", modifies the "Oscillation" melody to descend with portamento after it finishes, which sets up an unresolved tension in the harmony, which is what immediately clues in the player that they descended deeper into the Depths - the music falls down yet further than Oscillation. - The majority of the songs that are played in the Depths have the Oscillation motif, except Ascension (Interlude). As it is linked with the overworld, Ascension has the "To Sleep, Dreaming" motif as its melody, however the genius aspect is that the timbre is changed fundamentally from a percussive/string instrument (what it is normally) to a voice, several voices, singing in unison. Not only that, but the functional harmony of "To Sleep, Dreaming" is once again shown as it resolves to a triumphant chord at the end. - "To Sleep, Dreaming", is also heard in "The End.", except slowed down and not quite in time, representing the last fragments of self attempting to make sense of themselves. - "To Sleep, Dreaming" also appears in "Lacrimosa Dies Illa", one of the only songs from the Depths to use it (as far as I can tell with my small brain), representing how the player needs to survive to get back up to the surface. - Lastly, Kyrie is a masterpiece. Latin lyrics for the theme of the game (around the mixture of ancient religion, medieval legend and modern elements too), and NOT TO MENTION WHAT THEY TRANSLATE TO. In New Kyrsa, the lore says that the inhabitants are stuck in a time loop. I personally think Ethiron has something to do with that, and so do the citizens. The line translates to "Lord, have Mercy." This is not only a Roman catholic chant often sung in masses, but the way that it's used here is so clever - the Latin reinforcing the religious inspiration PLUS being a cry for help from the inhabitants. Literally screaming out "Have mercy on us!". The music picking up over time to morph into an absolute cacophony of hopelessness. I'll add more later, but this level of composition and ingenuity is outright criminal. I wish Deepwoken wasn't a Roblox game so it would be socially acceptable for more older adults to play this, because the fact that something which parallels if not exceeds most games with 'good' soundtracks is so relatively unknown is a crime. I think all aspiring music producers who've heard you want to be like you, Naktigonis. And I doubt that any of them will ever reach your sublime highs. I just hope you know how much of a genius you are. EDIT: Okay, so something I've noticed as well is that Nakti uses triplets to make grooves pop more. Lacrimosa Dies Illa, there's a triplet pattern in the percussion, which complements the vocal melody by landing on off-beats and standard beats alike. Furthermore, the To Sleep Dreaming motif in that is played straightly, so you get this groove that pops amazingly. Then of course, the lytics taken from Dies Irae, continuing the link between Deepwoken's world and inspirations from 15th century liturgical beliefs and how they could be twisted. Also the chant is used in funerals, which is why it's played when you get into combat in the Depths - it'll be your funeral. Similarly, in Pyres Of Glass, there's a triplet percussion thing in the back too. They're everywhere and they add so much.

something i've realized is that this song feels like you want to do something, like you want to make a change, and yet you know deep down that there really isn't anything you can do. the lost inhabitants of layer 2 floor 2, stuck in a timeloop, must know the feeling of helplessness all too well.

Coming back to this two weeks after premiere and...Damn. This whole song is another example of conveying an audionarrative storytelling conveying the story and vibe of an area masterfully. "Kyrie Eleison", from my limited knowledge, means "Lord, Have Mercy". With the lore of the kyrsgarde in mind, the implications of the chant throughout become far more grim and tragic (Especially with the sense of desperation as the chant comes to a close). Second thing I enjoy is that, upon listening more carefully, you can hear the remnants of familiar leitmotifs that only barely reach Kyrsa (Oscillation and the Eternal Gale motifs especially). Overall, the song is beautiful and conveys so much, effervescent work from my favourite Musical Man, and i'm excited for the eventual release of Hammer's Call so I can go on a tangent about that too
You have an incredible way to tell stories with sound. You bring out the emotions of the environment itself and I hope you know how much we appreciate your talent.
I can’t believe I’m saying this for a Roblox game, but god the music you make is some of the best I have ever heard. You fluently tell stories and describe things just by music. Thank you for inspiring me to further pursue music. Common Nakti W.

Probably unintentional, but the visualiser kinda reminds me of how bone tissue looks under microscope, and it's pretty interesting considering how often bones are something of importance in layer 2
Would've loved for the vocals to be on a separate audio layer in-game, and to only be audible when near a Kyrsgarde NPC. It'd be such a fantastic easter egg, and further hint at the fact that they're not in control of themselves. Either way, a gorgeous piece for a gorgeous slice of this world I've fallen in love with. One of my favorite tracks off the OST so far.
I have rarely felt something like that while listenning to a video game theme and never to that extent, thank you for creating such a masterpiece ! 2:08
I love this theme, it tells such a tragic story with what'd be considered extremely calming music. I love how there's moments where it sounds somewhat ominous as if the track itself is reminding you that this isn't a safehaven, your not done yet. Keep up the awesome work!
Can we just appreciate that Naktigonis goes to the effort to put excerpts of literature pieces in the descriptions of every single one of his pieces for Deepwoken? Either he goes through the effort to find fitting excerpts, or he already just knows enough literature to conjure it up from memory to put here. To put this all into perspective, he's a great composer, a great music producer, a good voice actor, and an intellectual with high amount of literature knowledge. Deepwoken sure is lucky to have Naktigonis.
okay so i don't know how loved this one is , but it's my favorite track... i've been listening to it for many months. so thank you for delivering this into the world. i'd love to hear a reprise of this one like you did the other "band version" of some songs. Once more , thank you and have a nice day.
The feelings when i first entered the library, not knowing what lied ahead, then heared this, i could not help but be at ease, despite bring somewhere so hostile. This piqued my curiosity to press on despite death lurking around every corner
Naktigonis man, I love you. Thanks to you, ragoozer, archmage, the dev team, when i first played on release i was able to find my best friends of 1 or 2 years, your music also makes me overjoyed whenever I hear it in-game or on yt. Thank you for making this music. Update: We're no longer friends, unfortunately. Still love your music though.
You don't understand how magnificent this is, its such a soothing track and when you think of the lore for New Krysa, the song almost has a sense of hope that you can set free the citizens of New Krysas time loop , and an underlying sadness knowing it'll never happen because of the time loop they are condemned to. this is absolutely perfect, above and beyond.
Before yall try to social justice warrior cancel me for supporting Naktigonis. I'm told to kill myself daily in arena I didn't even know it was bannable so many people would be banned. Nobody ever followed that rule why is he banned for it? That's singling out this one guy.
listening to this while thinking about what all the NPCs in layer 2 say kinda makes me emotional ngl, deepwoken would never hit so hard if it wasn't for your music, you really have an insane amount of talent
this song hits hard. it gives me the same feeling i had when i heard erisia's theme for the first time. it just makes me eager to explore this as much as possible
Carefully dropping down into the library and hearing this begin to play is really something which sets the tone for your journey through New Kyrsa, to fell Ethiron's Scion. You can tell something is off, but it's weirdly.. relaxing, yet saddening, to explore this forgotten city. It's clear you need to keep your guard up, but it's almost compelling to let it down and just stroll. But you don't have time. Not yet.
Nothing else rivals how much emotion your songs bring to me. Every theme has a story behind it but your songs inspire me so much. Your music has been a core inspiration for me for a lot of things (especially DnD) and I can never ever thank you enough for your inspiring work.
From what I’ve heard about this song it sort of feels like what the future could be, and looking and and pushing forward while all the other themes in the depths seem to focus on what’s happening right now. Naktigonis is peak
@@Username-jx2ij Well, it's decent answer. It's like aliens, they got better technologies than people (or not really people lol) in overworld. Npc in the ruined subway tells you about this.
Your music is similar to what another channel I really love does. They use music to tell stories, and your music is an amazing example, even without vocals.
"The First City's fall defines every subsequent event in the history of the Neath. It is the moment of transition from a world of shadows and beasts to a world of men; that is to say, the boundary between pre-history and History." -Fallen London, "Examine traces of the First City" Storylet
Very nicely made, honestly! Aside from how it sounds (it brought chills upon me the first time I listened to it), the meaning behind it is also nice - I can imagine the Kyrsgarde chanting - "Kyrie Eleison!" - trying to keep their wicked god fast asleep, as for when he comes, not even Krulians have a chance to survive.
“This place used to be flourishing, blooming with knowledge and new ideas. People collaborating and constantly making new inventions… All of that is gone.”
You cooked on this ost alot. even though the depths are like hell in the deepwoken verse, there is just an beautiful ancient city lying there with a scion capable of destroying the world (or something) i like how this ost is diffrrent from the rest of the layer 2 osts.
It sounds like something that would play while you're being guided to Valhalla by a Valkyrie; looking back at all your life was, understanding what makes this world special and reminiscing. Feeling a sense of comfort that all your troubles and traumas of the world are over, as if it were the warm embrace of a mother telling you it's alright. You may now ascend and live in peace, embracing the light of the lords; you earned it after all.
god damnit naktigonis why are you so good at this?? the vocals are insane! it really expresses almost perfectly how all of the ethiron worshippers are in harmony, trapped in a timeless, void-like city. you're a blessing to us man, and now you make me fear layer 3 like never before. new favourite ambience. that one guy that said i keep saying this; you cannot say it this time!! this is impossibly good!!!!
“I wish I never came down here, it’s like if the depths had never been underwater. I gone from water to snow and now a full blown technological city. I wish I could take some of these things to research on but I am trapped, as that diver’s lighthook is gone. Oh how I wish I could have stayed with my fellow Vigils”- *It seems the diary has been left here, without a body in sight*
When you listen to this song on constant loop, you end up forgetting it's there in a RUclips video, but it just keeps rolling like it has become an actual part of your environment. Just like them, they will forget they are stuck in a loop but still suffering from it because it's the only thing they keep doing eternally. It's like joining their suffering. And I love that.
It has been well over a year since Verse 2 came out and it still feels magical and mysterious, especially thanks to this beautiful music. Layer two music still on top 🔥 🔥 🔥
As you step into new kyrsa, you know there is no going back. It is there where our character will fall to never be seen again, it is there where we will perish... But there's still hope! The hope to make it through, to endure it, to persist it, the hope to survive... The soothing melancholy of this song makes me feel that, that last nearly unbelievable bit of hope as our evident end approaches. Good job Naktigonis, I really hope being able to listen to your next songs.

I have rarely felt something like that while listenning to a video game theme and never to that extent, thank you for creating such a masterpiece ! 2:08
You're such an inspiration, you really enlighten this game with every stroke you add in your music, keep up the beautiful works
Everyone’s supporting you if it means anything, hope you keep making music
okay so i don't know how loved this one is , but it's my favorite track... i've been listening to it for many months. so thank you for delivering this into the world.
i'd love to hear a reprise of this one like you did the other "band version" of some songs.

You don't understand how magnificent this is, its such a soothing track and when you think of the lore for New Krysa, the song almost has a sense of hope that you can set free the citizens of New Krysas time loop , and an underlying sadness knowing it'll never happen because of the time loop they are condemned to. this is absolutely perfect, above and beyond.

this song hits hard. it gives me the same feeling i had when i heard erisia's theme for the first time. it just makes me eager to explore this as much as possible
Just wanted to say that I really love your visuals for each song! For me, it adds more to each song and the stories they tell.
i have literall goosebumps by KYRIE, ELEISON! such a nice sound

In floor 2 its more about how alien yet familiar it feels

@@Username-jx2ij Well, it's decent answer. It's like aliens, they got better technologies than people (or not really people lol) in overworld. Npc in the ruined subway tells you about this.
Tbh I wasn’t really talking about the context of the story, more of how the song feels if you took Deepwokens story out of the picture
Your music is similar to what another channel I really love does. They use music to tell stories, and your music is an amazing example, even without vocals.

The oscillation lietmotifs from 0:50 to 1:11 are sneaky, Yet they add so much.
I'm surprised by how he manages to use a lietmotif in every theme.
"The First City's fall defines every subsequent event in the history of the Neath. It is the moment of transition from a world of shadows and beasts to a world of men; that is to say, the boundary between pre-history and History."

UNIRONICALLY
this is such a vibe honestly.

Ive never forgotten about this song. Its genuinely beautiful.
I absolutely love the change in theme that sometimes happens, the way it uses different instruments and can turn from like Archaic to Retro in a way.
