    You always do an excellent job with a more methodical approach! One thing I’d be curious about you going into would be Tribuytrin being maybe the most critical of all aspects to restore gut function and then moving into probiotics, then prebiotics/fermented foods/diverse soluble fiber rich foods.

    Very informative video. In my case, the sour taste of fermented foods irritates my stomach since I have gastritis and acid reflux. So, currently, I am working on increasing my prebiotic diet. This is where your video is most helpful. Hopefully, my gut health improves and I will be able to consume fermented foods. Thanks.

    Totally agree, one thing at a time which has been a challenge for me to do! What made huge difference for me when adding pre and probiotics is finding the the right formula selection and adding a digestive enzyme with each meal.

      That’s very understandable - when you’re eager to get well, and there are multiple things on your radar, it’s natural to want to try incorporating them at once, especially if you know they work well together. But you’re right, going one by one is better, especially if you find you have an intolerance to something new - it’s much easier to identify that way.
      I’m so glad you’ve found a routine that’s helping you!

    Had a group discussion with my besties. The subject on digestive dysfunction in menopause came up and all the misinformation fuelled by fear from other health institutions was raised. I was shocked when doing research on what came up, basically instructions to do much of the activities you warn us not to take part in.
    Maybe you can cover digestive dysfunction in female menopause?

It's why carnivore diet works so well. For the healthy population, prebiotics seem fine. If you have any moderate or severe gut dysbiosis, best to use a probiotic with NO prebiotics. @@aurorab6553 Prebiotics are a little trickier. We don’t necessarily recommend them (especially in isolation) to patients with sensitivities or who have significant microbiome imbalances, which a yeast overgrowth could be. Probiotics may be the better course of action - bringing in the good bacteria first, then feeding it with probiotics down the line (vs potentially feeding the imbalance if you go with prebiotics first). Does that make sense?

    Why do you have the harmful ingredient maltodextrin in your meal replacements?

    • @DrRuscioDC
      @DrRuscioDC  8 месяцев назад +1

      Hi there! Maltodextrin is a common ingredient in elemental and semi-elemental diets because it’s a highly digestible, simple carbohydrate. Elemental diets are made up of essentially pre-digested nutrients, and for that reason they’re primarily carbohydrate-based. They’re mostly intended for people experiencing acute GI symptoms who can’t tolerate or digest whole foods. Rather than as part of a daily diet, these products are intended for short-term, focused courses of treatment (though they’re safe for daily or regular use as well).
      Sorry if I’m telling you things you already know. But that’s why we’re somewhat limited in what ingredients we use if we also want the product to serve its purpose. If you look at comparable elemental diet and similar medical products, like Physician’s formula, they contain simple carbohydrate sources like maltodextrin and dextrose pretty much across the board.

      My daughter had SIBO, is there a specific type of probiotics for this condition or is it better not to take any

    • @DrRuscioDC
      @DrRuscioDC  8 месяцев назад

      @@Frida-w2gI’m so sorry to hear she’s been suffering with that. We recommend probiotics as part of our three-step approach to SIBO, ideally a mix of the three main types (lacto/bifido species, s. boulardii, and soil-based strains). More on that here: drruscio.com/sibo-treatments/. It’s especially helpful during a course of antibiotic or antimicrobial therapy. But some people who have SIBO have variable reactions to probiotics alone, so we always recommend trying it in combination with at least an elimination diet, if not also antimicrobials. If it’s not too personal to ask, what has she tried already for SIBO treatment? I hope she’s feeling better.

    • @DrRuscioDC
      @DrRuscioDC  8 месяцев назад

      @@brianbellamy5678I’m sorry I don’t have a more complete answer for you. This post on our site sums it up well and links out to studies that might be helpful references: drruscio.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/360050245014--Why-does-Elemental-Heal-contain-Stevia-and-Tapioca-Maltodextrin. Part of the rationale behind using whey in the original formula is that it helps balance the carbohydrate load - but that also means it’s semi-elemental, not truly elemental like our whey-free version is.
      I also want to clarify that it’s not a typical meal replacement so much as it is medical food. Elemental diets aren’t indicated for everyone, but they can be a lifesaver for people who are struggling to eat, get nourished, and absorb nutrients, and that’s why they’re formulated as they are.
