  • Come join us on Day 5, 6 and 7 of our End-to-End hike across the UK where we hiked through the Flow Country and entered the Highlands.
    Despite some road walking, high winds, rain and feeling a bit lonely, we enjoyed the stunning landscape on that stretch and slept in a bothy for the first time.
    Route:
    Loch Gaineimh-Forsinard (18mi/29,1km)
    Forsinard-Badanloch Lodge (12.1mi/19,5km)
    Badanloch Lodge-Loch Choire (13.9mi/22,5km)
    I’m planning to upload regular videos (though probably not always on the exact same day every week). Please subscribe (it’s free :)) if you want to stay up to date and support my work. That would really mean a lot!
    If you want to support our adventure and fuel our hike with treats for Otto and coffee for me: ko-fi.com/elli...
    On our hike we’ll try to raise funds for the Green Forest Fund and the WWF. Feel free to support our charity: www.betterplac...
    Thank you so much!
    Happy hiking,
    Elli and Otto

    I have just found you. What an extraordinary person you are. And the fact that you are taking along your four legged friend is really heartening - it says so much about you and your priorities. You're setting a great example to a lot of youngsters, and also older pensioners like myself. Thank you, and God's speed.

    It looks like you had the full Scottish experience - dull, damp and drab.
    Interesting to read about the Flow Country/blanket bog
    It's nice that you've researched the environments that you pass through - outside of the Flow Country most of the environment is completely unnatural - a result of hundreds of years of overgrazing. For anyone else interested, search for Andy Wightman & Duncan Halley.

    In Scotland the Forests are sustainable and planted in order and each section is cut every 30 years as other cut areas are replanted ensuring a sustainable supply and never just cut barren and not planted again.

      I don't know if it's for a similar reason to England - but I was of the understanding the Forestry Commission was set up after the 1st WW because there was a serious lack of timber available for the War effort. They almost chose Eucalyptus Trees instead of the Pine you see everywhere as it is also fast growing. Quite quickly the timber grown locally wasn't as important or as good quality as imported timber. However because it had been set up so well it has stayed in roughly the same format ever since. Quite basically it is a farmed crop - just like you said.

    Mega! Fände es super interessant, was du dazu denkst.
    Alles Gute weiterhin!

    If the temperature rises you may have to invest in a mosquito net to avoid the dreaded Scottish midge,however it has been a cold spring here in Scotland and that may work in your favour .

    Good idea to take the train to a B&B to avoid the worst of the weather while getting a good night's sleep. You've a long way to go so you need a little bit of occasional comfort on the way - be nice to yourself! (And Otto...)
    Might I ask how you are getting on with the X-Mid? I have one just the same, had it since Christmas but haven't been able to get out in it yet although I have a trip planned to Scotland in June. I see you are putting rocks on the pegs - are you using the extra guy points as well?

    • @ellihikes
      @ellihikes  Год назад +1

      Thank you 🤗😊 I'm very happy with the X-mid. It's goes up really quickly, very easy to pitch, roomy and well ventilated. But I've picked up new pegs on the way, since the smaller ones from another tent weren't the best (hence the rocks). I was a bit anxious about winds, but it was fine so far. Used the guylines only when it was windy. It stands perfectly with just the 4 corners when there's no wind....

      @nickwinter991 Год назад

      @@ellihikes Thanks, Elli, good pegs are important, especially if you are only using four of them😉. Glad you like the tent - you will be in it a lot in the next month or two! Really helps that you have confidence in it. Take care in those hills, you'll probably get to some bigger ones soon.

    Oh you're doing really well Elli. Well done you 💪. I laughed when you walked into the water and Otto is looking at you and may be thinking 😱 "Oh no! Do I have to follow mum. I'll just try and ignore her and become invisible." 🤪 After saying to you about setting up RUclips, I think I might try it for when I do the South West Coast Path in September. It is great sharing the journey with others and I have the Caminos and LEJOG Brompton bike photos. I don't think I will be walking backwards to pick up that camera. Good on you. 🫶 xx
