Thank you for sharing! I keep most of my pencils in the original packaging. The black widows i put in color order in a big pencil case i just hated al those lose sets. Also my prismacolors are in the pencilcase i have them around and take them with me when i travel so its easier. My restock prismas are stored in a shopdisplay i love that one so much in my studio. The look of it makes me realy happy when i walk in the room🤗💕

Hi Kori, I too combine pencils, I have the Luminance and the Lightfast in the same case, I put them in the chart order you showed so they are mixed up. I use my Albrecht Durers and Polys together, so they live in the same case. I have my Inktense, Graphatint and Derwent drawing all living in the same case. My Derwent pencils colorsoft, artists and pros all live in the same case too. So yes I swatch and then try to figure out color family. Thanks for the tips and that giant case, I can see why you use it!!! Have a great day!

I don't mix sets, but I do put same brands in the same case - I have 3 mega cases that hold my (1) Kalour 240, Soft Pastels and watercolor pencils, (2) Castle Arts 120 Gold, 120 Soft Touch, 48 Pasteltint and 72 Harmonious, and (3) Brutfuner squares, black barrel rounds and 50 macarons.
I also use disc binding for my swatches, and I use little tabs to label each swatch page for ease of use.
I haven't done it for all of my pencil cases, but I printed out some small swatch strips on sticker paper to put on each section in my cases for the pencils on that page/leaf/whatever. That makes it easier to put pencils back when they are in color order instead of number order.
And lastly, I print out name and number labels for my pencils because of hard to read printing on the pencil, or the rubbing off of the numbers like on my prismas.
I can and have spent days organizing my pencils. I think I have more fun swatching and labeling than I do actually coloring.

Great ideas. Where did you get the second Prisma color order chart from?💖

This is what I came to the comments about also! The chart that had the bigger blocky type shape! 💜🐰🩷

When I first started coloring, I had one huge case that held about four different brands of colored pencils. I organize that case by color meaning that all of my different brands of pencils are Mixed together in color order. The other three pencil cases I have are for each different brand and they are put in color order.

Wonderful video! I combine polys and AD’s in the same case. Then I only need the one case for basing and shading on top. I swatch according to color family but I store in numerical order. It only took one evening of searching for the pencil I wanted throughout the whole case over and over again for me to realize that’s for the birds lol! Thanks for the tips!❤

Happy New Year Kori! Thanks for this. I organized in number order. I’m a little OCD and prefer having my pencils in number order. For me it’s easier to find what I want to use and also putting them back.

I would be interested in seeing a vidoe on how you do the disbound swatch book. Do you have to put it together?

There are pencil cases that are more effective to use. If you like to see 96 pencils all at once use the pencil case with 480 slots I have found that pencil cases with slots make it easier to move pencils in and out. I use this case for my go-to pencils. In one case I can fit Prismacolor, Polychromos, Pablo, and Holbein 100. I use the same pattern of case for the same type of pencils. I have three cases of Professional pencils with yellow honey and bees cases. Second best in a different patterned case. Easy to see and store if you have a lot of different types of pencils. I have over 10 different brands but only 5 cases to store. One concern with large cases is they are very heavy to lift. Swatching I used a small sketchbook. The cheapest, high-quality toothy paper is a hardcovered sketchbook by Pauper Press. I use tabs to label the pencil name for easy reference. I make a long swatch from darkest to lightest at the end of the line I use a blender pencil. I write the name and number for each swatch. This small book is compact which is easy to store and take with you wherever you go.

I have two cases in total. One for duplicates. I think I have separated the low lightfastness and the greys from the others. Also maybe the higher values from the lower values. I think it is time to review and maybe redo. 🙂

I have 10 sets of pencil to swatch and my triblend markers . Ugghh. Is the Nina card stock good for swatching?
