Played the Demo and was instantly interested. Havent played since 8. However I didn't know the release date. Just played the Demo for Metaphor ReFantazio and loved it. Went to buy the game yesterday, saw this released and I had to make a tough call since they're both $70 games. Decided to get Metaphor since I was invested in that story from the Demo, but will definitely be getting this after. Maybe even catch it on sale. I know DW is laughed at, but its one of my favorites. Like Falcon said, its simple, its fun, its a video game.
My goodness this game series takes me back dynasty warriors 2 on the ps2 playing as the goat Zhaou Yun beating people up with the staff it's a shame I can't play as him throughout the game but this looks promising I will be 100% buying this if it wasn't for my oldest sister introducing me to this game I'd probably never have played one
Research shows me, you can only play as one character as a main, and it's the generic wanderer. That really takes the shine off for me. If the rest unlock after finishing the initial story, that's cool, but I won't be getting it until I know that.
@@MsPoliteRantsyeah I'm a big fan of sw and dw franchise and I enjoyed every one of them but none of them come close to sw2 .this game has some of my favorite songs, stages, and designs of the sw characters also god tier dub and I love that it focuses on each character and everyone has a storyline which we can learn more about each character and they're miles better than the rest of the series they feel authentic. I'm currently playing origins and while I like the game the dub is awful . Personally don't like the newer sw character designs and gameplay mechanics specially hyper attacks which makes killing normal enemies way too easy and the whole mission is a objective check that you have to do. In sw2 the combat is perfect it's not too fast paced like you are a God killing everything in 5 sec and not too slow. you can enjoy the map the way you want because it doesn't force any objective to you . I really hope they release a remastered version of the ultimate edition on pc 😭
I gotta admit, I'm exceedingly shocked that there isn't more of an uproar regarding the fact that you can only play as the more famous characters for a short time.
After a million dynasty Warriors games where you can do that it's kind of refreshing to have a singular focus. And being able to have them high up on a pedestal that you can only use from time to time makes them more special in my opinion. Hopefully we get some DLC or sequel where we can play as them but I'm okay with this
@Day_Chap nah, this was mentioned for months now. Not sure if you've been following the game or not but that was the primary focus. You play as one character
@MatticusFinch1820 i was curious if you beat the game on Musou mode if you unlocked the characters? The older games locked them behind this. Probably not, but that'd be cool!
Man, I'm so happy to see Dynasty Warriors making a bit of a comeback! Been a fan since DW1 (the iffy fighting game lmao), they really knocked it out of the park with this one. Legitimately looking forward to the next installment in this series - and I haven't even finished the game yet!
I'm going to wait for the discount for this game. If they had all the characters that we could play would buy it for 69.99 but only 1 unknow character with 9 other companions nah.
Never played a mainline DW game, only played P5S and Hyrule Warriors. I love the combat, and this looks great, so I’m seriously thinking of picking this one up
What a dumb comment. 'Horde'? How is like 2 a year a 'horde'? Get a damn clue, you clearly don't play them, as a souls-like lover I do and they're few and far between.
i really got into this lore back on my nes as a kid in destiny of an emperor. a great turn based jrpg that nobody ever talks about. never tried these though because the last few i wanted to get had horrible reviews.
I'll judge it when I get around to playing, it looks good but the lack of playable characters was literally half the reason I liked playing these games. I really did play most characters in each dynasty warrior game I played. For me this looks like a fun action game but it's not a dynasty warriors game. (When it comes to why I played them)
Im 5 hours in on day of release so far and this has given me the ps2 nostalgia but with a modern twist. Its really feels like a true dynasty warrior entry
Over 17 minutes and no mention of different game modes. I'm tired of hearing about live services being the worst thing about modern gaming and most games only have one game mode. When I was growing up , there were tons of game modes!
I always thought that for a Dynasty Warriors 10 comeback they should combine DW 7 story telling with DW 8 mechanics in an open world like DW 9 but with a lot more detail and variety.
Thank you! I was the only person among my friends to play these, and thought maybe my taste were just too basic. But I really enjoyed the Dynasty Warriors games I've played. So thank you Falcon for being a fan also.🥂👏
I enjoyed DW4 and DW8. I was fully expecting the next DW game I'd enjoy to be DW12, but the demo for Origins convinced me otherwise. DWO is like a whole-ass game. Crazy.
honestly I thought this will have multiplayer sad to say, a game like this should have multiplayer it will be so much fun. I've played some of the dynasty warriors back in the ps2 generation it was good
You can only play the random NPC elevated to main character? That sounds horrible. How did you not focus on this more? To be honest this seems like a total deal breaker for me regardless of how good the game might be. Dynasty Warriors? He's not a dynasty, and he's just one guy. Sounds more like Random Warrior. :/
I've always wanted an original hero in DW but customizable, this guy just isn't it for me. And I love to play as other heroes whenever I like too. So it's a mixed bag
Last time I played DW game it was DW3 and I loved it. Bought this but just haven't had the time to play it, I am so excited. I watched my brother play a little and It looks great.
"You have to play a generic protagonist you can't customize, can't play any of the fan favorite historical characters" I'm out, i'll keep my money until they fix that in a patch or sequel.
This game tells the story remarkably well and is a great kickoff point for newcomers to the series. Combat is exceptional and character reworks are really well done. I for one dont mind what they removed. The way it feels is solid and makes me look forward to future mainline installments now that the framework is in place.
Combat looks like a massive improvement but yeah only having 1 playable character is dissapointing for a warriors game , combat will get pretty boring and stale. not to mention the lack of Online / Coop. i just wait for a massive price drop to check it out.
@@jandrej5917 I dont feel its stale at all. I do understand why people miss having the playable characters and that's fair. But the weapon system for this game in particular was actually a really good choice. And the weapons really do feel different and unique, not just cloned move sets of the past. Even companions have a benefit as they determine your starting position on most maps. So you can engage battle from various positions and experience them differently. There are still minor tweaks id like to see with the series moving forward... but 7 and 8 got stale fast despite their variety. I honestly dont think i fully completed either. And 9... well we dont talk about that attrocity. Lol. At the very least, this feel fresh and was just what the doctor ordered on a decaying series.
No co-op, no buy. Play as nobody with amnesia, no buy. Half a game, stopping at chi bi I heard? For $70? No thanks. Accusations of bot reviews on steam, interesting. Peak of 54k compared to Dynasty Warriors 9 having like 3k. Guess my opinions don't matter, but I sure as hell won't buy it unless they add co-op with split screen or online, and most unlikely, let me play exclusively as the characters, not the nameless amnesia nobody.
@Pat6670 for real man 🤣 the game ends at Chi Bi because that's when your characters are ends. This game also has triple the mission count than any other DW. This dude snow-raver prolly got a neck beard
Yep you're right your opinions mean nothing, the game is fantastic and the story is alot more involved, drawn out, it may end half way at chi bi but that's still a long way off from the start oh and also you name the character but yeah
Dude PS2 Dynasty Warrior games were sick. Me and my friend would unlock all the hidden characters and then PvP each other. Besides infinite juggles, it was a blast. Hearing that we're locked to one character means that there's no PvP :( I'll still play this game tho.
Dynasty Warriors is definitely an early GOTY contender. On a side note: the success of "Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty" which was a dark souls-like spin off of Dynasty Warriors, definitely motivated the developer and publisher to start from scratch and release this future classic.
The demo felt great. I understand going with one protagonist even though it's a net negative. It's great for new players learning the narrative. But being able to play as 50 different warriors with their own endings, weapons, and movesets was amazing. Biggest problem you didn't even mention was the lack of co-op. That's a big deal. Coordinating which objective to tackle and splitting up only to regroup somewhere else on the battlefield felt incredible. Back in the day, I always hoped they'd expand on this. But it looks like it went the other way.
Hopefully, they will make a type of Empire because Empires was fun! I miss creating your character, marrying, having children, and officers permanently dying.
I wish they add split screen, me and my brothers used to smash the keyboard. Man how time passes, BTW thank you falcon what a review. This year we gonna have some real games this and like a dragon plus Khazan eastern devs are true heroes for bringing back our childhood feelings and memories

This might just get me back into the Warriors series
Watching the little arrow run through the map after you finished was one of my favorite features of the older games, if, as it sounds, they used that for the “continue” system that is *seriously* awesome!
I gave up on Dynasty Warriors a while back cause I felt like every new entry felt more and more barren/bland but I think we are sooo BACKK boyss let’s goooo
Man i hope they come out with a samurai warriors or warriors orochi with this combat. Really does look like it runs like butter. Been playing warrior games since the beginning. Always love them.
You chose wrong.
@@Pat6670 Absolutely not
@@Pat6670saying this when you've obviously never played metaphor is stupid work.
You mean zhao yun and his spear? You can use his move set if you equip a spear
If you mean Zhou yu with his staff, the staff is also a move set
@Stonecrow99 yeah zhao yun witht the spear my bad it's been a while
My favourite game of all time. I’d buy 2 and 3 all over again over and over again if I could (don’t have a ps2 lol)
I am 1000% buying this.
DW Origins is your favorite game? Is it that good?
He is talking about the franchise in general@@nanox4825
I had a $15 GameStop points card and my monthly $5 coupon so I got this game for like 45 bucks. Totally worth it
That's a steal
Love to hear someone talk about Dynasty Warriors this way!
Research shows me, you can only play as one character as a main, and it's the generic wanderer. That really takes the shine off for me. If the rest unlock after finishing the initial story, that's cool, but I won't be getting it until I know that.
I use to love this game on ps2 lol
I’d still be playing it on Ps2 if my video out port didn’t fail on it 😭
Dont know if peoples hate this, but i loves warriors orochi 2. Used to grind it till i unlocked all characters 😂.
Samurai warriors 2 was the best for me I liked it way more than dynasty warriors series I still play it sometimes.
@@Oloviye I have that one too! I remember it being way harder than DW. But I love them all
@@MsPoliteRantsyeah I'm a big fan of sw and dw franchise and I enjoyed every one of them but none of them come close to sw2 .this game has some of my favorite songs, stages, and designs of the sw characters also god tier dub and I love that it focuses on each character and everyone has a storyline which we can learn more about each character and they're miles better than the rest of the series they feel authentic.
Dynasty warriors 5 empires is the peak of the franchise no question
I gotta admit, I'm exceedingly shocked that there isn't more of an uproar regarding the fact that you can only play as the more famous characters for a short time.
Sometimes, change is good 😊 I like the change so far!
I didn't even know until this video. They've kept it under wraps successfully apparently.
It is called origins
Same here. I usually will only buy the games when they are $20 and never get DLC.
Same I was legit gonna buy this up until I heard that. Definitely waiting for a sale.
Never played a mainline DW game, only played P5S and Hyrule Warriors. I love the combat, and this looks great, so I’m seriously thinking of picking this one up
Review starts at 1:45
Why lie the start is extremely important for many. And you remove and trick other's a major point he making .
This'll be my first DW game. Just looks so fun
Dynasty Warrior's back in top form!! This will be a great pallet cleanser for the horde of Souls-like games.
What a dumb comment. 'Horde'? How is like 2 a year a 'horde'? Get a damn clue, you clearly don't play them, as a souls-like lover I do and they're few and far between.
it'll probably be a good palate cleanser but who knows, it might also tidy the warehouse
@cenciende9401 someone doesn't like hearing the truth. Poor guy
i really got into this lore back on my nes as a kid in destiny of an emperor. a great turn based jrpg that nobody ever talks about. never tried these though because the last few i wanted to get had horrible reviews.
I'll judge it when I get around to playing, it looks good but the lack of playable characters was literally half the reason I liked playing these games. I really did play most characters in each dynasty warrior game I played.
For me this looks like a fun action game but it's not a dynasty warriors game. (When it comes to why I played them)
Glad they’re taking it in a new direction while also keeping a lot of its roots - can’t wait to play it!
I was about to buy until I heard you can only play as one character. The best part was being able to play additional characters.
Im 5 hours in on day of release so far and this has given me the ps2 nostalgia but with a modern twist. Its really feels like a true dynasty warrior entry
How is it a Dynasty Warriors game if you can’t play as any heroes?
Exactly it's a easy pass for me hopefully we get a DW 10 one day
Right??
Over 17 minutes and no mention of different game modes. I'm tired of hearing about live services being the worst thing about modern gaming and most games only have one game mode. When I was growing up , there were tons of game modes!
really happy to see it was falcon getting this one. I remember the blunder that was 9.
Yea not a fan of the random plane main character. I loved playing and mastering all the other characters
Dynasty Warriors 2 was mind blowing. It was what got me back into gaming and I've been a hardcore gamer ever since. I can't wait to try this tonight.
So thank you Falcon for being a fan also.🥂👏
Holy a new dynasty warriors?
I enjoyed DW4 and DW8. I was fully expecting the next DW game I'd enjoy to be DW12, but the demo for Origins convinced me otherwise. DWO is like a whole-ass game. Crazy.
Only problem I have why not just let me create a character
Probably because they know you would create a trans character.
@@Pat6670 XD
honestly I thought this will have multiplayer sad to say, a game like this should have multiplayer it will be so much fun.
Rando Rambo
Yeah it's what's making me wait for a huge sale.
Over 17 minutes and no mention of different game modes? That's not like a DW game either.
@@conoretuk2023you're on every comment. Go cry more
Commenting even before I start the video: Was searching for this video for the last 2-3 days, hehehe, thanks Gameranxxx
@0:52 what exactly are you trying to say here lol
Lmao I agree 😂😅
What Falcon was trying to say is “The series needs a major refresh. And got some feuds-and it go-ehh. the spinoffs, they were great” hope this helps
Falcon is slowly turning into AI more and more.
I've always wanted an original hero in DW but customizable, this guy just isn't it for me. And I love to play as other heroes whenever I like too. So it's a mixed bag
Same. Super generic MC with no customization options is a major turn-off. I'll wait for a sale.
@NoName-qd6vp DW5 and 8 remains the best for me
@ Yeah, DW8XL is peak Musou.
Last time I played DW game it was DW3 and I loved it. Bought this but just haven't had the time to play it, I am so excited. I watched my brother play a little and It looks great.
"You have to play a generic protagonist you can't customize, can't play any of the fan favorite historical characters"
I'm out, i'll keep my money until they fix that in a patch or sequel.
Would love to have had the Mc be customizable

Thank the powers that be. Been waiting for a return to the originals that made me fall in love with these chaos ridden hack and slashes!!
Like $70 is a lot of money. Quit being poor.
@Pat6670 for real man 🤣 the game ends at Chi Bi because that's when your characters are ends. This game also has triple the mission count than any other DW. This dude snow-raver prolly got a neck beard
Yep you're right your opinions mean nothing, the game is fantastic and the story is alot more involved, drawn out, it may end half way at chi bi but that's still a long way off from the start oh and also you name the character but yeah
dude just admit it. you dont care about co-op.... you have no friends to even play co-op with :D
@subservient8 he plays co-op with his neck beard
Dude PS2 Dynasty Warrior games were sick. Me and my friend would unlock all the hidden characters and then PvP each other. Besides infinite juggles, it was a blast. Hearing that we're locked to one character means that there's no PvP :(
I'll still play this game tho.
Having picked up DW again last year on switch, it’s a perfect handheld game and with new handhelds coming this is a great pairing.
I Have been playing since DW3. This game brings back all the old memories of why I loved it. Get this game, it is incredible.
Even when you like your job, there are those moments when you can tell someone is loving it.
Dynasty Warriors is definitely an early GOTY contender.
On a side note: the success of "Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty" which was a dark souls-like spin off of Dynasty Warriors, definitely motivated the developer and publisher to start from scratch and release this future classic.
I haven't touched a DW since the PS2 days, this looks awesome though
The demo felt great. I understand going with one protagonist even though it's a net negative. It's great for new players learning the narrative. But being able to play as 50 different warriors with their own endings, weapons, and movesets was amazing.
Biggest problem you didn't even mention was the lack of co-op. That's a big deal. Coordinating which objective to tackle and splitting up only to regroup somewhere else on the battlefield felt incredible. Back in the day, I always hoped they'd expand on this. But it looks like it went the other way.
this would be the next dynasty warriors I’ll buy after playing my first on the PSP
Glad you said something about the "World Map". It made me happy to my soul when I started running around on it. They nailed it with this game. Anyone even remotely interested, BUY IT.
logged on to check for this video and here it is Gameranx remains undefeated
I never play Dynasty Warriors but the combat at 15:00 sold me! Reminds me of Jet Lee’s Twin Warriors (Tai Chi Master).
