  • This is my review of two great family camping tents for frontcountry or car camping. Both of these tents are great options for a family of 4 people. The MSR Habiscape Lounge 6 is a new model that features a massive front vestibule, while the Marmot Limestone 6 is a more simple and proven design.

I have a marmot Limestone 6 & been happy with it. Used it all over Utah from the desert to the mountains & had it in rain & light snow & no problems at all. I have an older version by the looks, but it’s very similar. We used it with a queen air mattress & sometimes had a little buddy heater to keep us warm. It has 2 vents that work well too. The vestibule on the marmot works well for gear as well. Although it’s just me & my wife that used the tent. The only big Pro on the MSR may be the bigger vestibule. We got the tent because we were camping out of our truck more & wanted to be able to put our pants on standing up unlike laying down in our 2-person backpacking tent. For 2 people the Limestone 6 has a lot of space. If you have more people, the bigger vestibule may be more important. We still have the tent, but have moved on to a offroad tent trailer. I give the Limestone 6 2 thumbs up.

Wow, what an excellent review. I am looking at both the MSR Habiscape lounge 6p and the Marmot Halo 6. MSR is having an extraordinary sale right now, so the Habiscape will probably win out. If so, I'll be happy to purchase through your link and will definitely subscribe to your channel

I have the halo 6, love it. Just be sure to get it on sale if u go with the halo. Used it in literally a hurricane and very light water penetration

Should compare it with the Marmot Halo 6p with a big front vestibule like the MSR.

I’m totally with you. It’s funny but the vestibule plays a huge part in my tent selection. I know the main tent area is important but if you’re dealing with bad weather you just don’t want that getting inside your tent and so the vestibule is super important. I think it’s something people don’t fully think about in regards to comfort.

Nice review…very helpful and covers the details that are important. Agree about having a steep vestibule kind of defeating the purpose especially in the rain.

Excellent review, especially notable as you have a great deal of experience using the Marmot one. I switched over to a floorless tipi style tent years ago.

Which tipi tent are you using?
Since I’m out with young kids they like going relax and play in the tent, watch a show, play with their toys or a board game. Fully enclosed tents just make life easier in that context - but I love floorless for backcountry trips!

I use a Seek Outside Cimmarron with the full Mosquito Nest. When there are no bugs, my son and I put down a piece of tyvek for the floor. If camping out of the truck we also use cots to stay off the ground.

Nice comparison, I think MSR Habiscape is more comparative to Marmot Halo 6p!

It does look like the Halo and Habiscape Lounge are comparables - but I don’t have that tent 🤷‍♂️

I have the habitude and halo. Those two tents are very comparable but I like the habitude more in colder climate.

I've seen a couple of reviews saying that the MSR striggles in wind, 20 mph and gusts, lots of flex and movement??

Thanks for taking the time to make this review. I am a conservationist in the Pacific Northwest and spend about 1/3 of a year in a tent. Winters are very windy and rainy and in my experience, tents with low mesh can be more cold and drafty. Does the low mesh line on the front side of the marmot get drafty? I’ve never had a tent with low mesh on just one side.

That's an interesting question - I haven't noticed it being particularly drafty. The back half is completely closed with solid nylon wall panels which is nice. For the kind of use you're talking about I can say that I really like the feel and durability of the Marmot floor material, and that overall it's a very solid tent. The front porch on the MSR tent would be nice in the PNW though!

This tent for some odd reason completely disappeared from MSR's website. Is it discontinued? I can only find the Habitude 6 through. I much prefer this for the double doors and passthrough feature. It's only missing the front door lighting attachment.

That’s strange - I just checked the Canadian and US sites and it’s on both. In stock for the US but not Canada. It’s listed as a new product there. Which site did you use?

Just wondering about that pass through pocket on the MSR tent. What is to stop spiders, ants, cockroaches etc from going from the outside and then into the tent? Is it just a big screen pocket with a divider down the middle and if so wouldnt putting say a cellphone into the pocket cause it to spread apart?

    • @KaneDoesOutdoors
      @KaneDoesOutdoors  11 месяцев назад

I'm sure a seriously motivated army of bugs could eventually figure it out... But you'd have to leave a pile of food in your tent in the first place for them to want in.
Where I live and camp, the grizz are more of a concern so food in your tent is a big no-no. Haven't had any issues with flying bugs since the pocked has a good amount of tension built in.
