I love the way Lingyi defends his wife in front of his mother. He doesn't even let Shiyi talk because she would just admit everything and take all the blames.
How ungrateful they are. How many times Shiyi save their family, but they still blame her for the slightest thing. Danyang is different, of course. Erniang finally did what I expected. I want to watch more Shiyi and Lingyi ❤️
That mother is so easily swayed and manipulated .. she has been the one to cause a lot of the things that has happened due to her easily being manipulated.
Every time I rewatch this drama I can't help but think the writers did the Matron's character a disservice. If she had managed to have the inner strength to hold the family together during major upheavals and tragedies, she should be a lot more cunning and insightful than she is portrayed in this series. This show makes her out to be a petty half wit who doesn't know who is really on her family's side or not. sigh!

I look at it as... slowly all the women that really wasn't meant to be with him are being eliminated and making it where he only have 1 wife... the 1 he is supposed to be with and was destined from the start.
In this family, the only person who understands shiyi is her husband. Even the second madam is against her now. She forgets that it’s shiyi that helped her to adopt the child she has. You can’t please humans, they’ll make sure they disappoint you😭
Shiyi is to be blamed. She knew how bad the relationship between Ou family and Xu family but she didn't stop herself from being associated to Ou Yanxing. She keep sacrificing them for outsiders and her Master Jian. She's stupid and selfish.

Shiyi can never do it right for Grandma. After all she has done, even sold her dowries, brought down an concubine who threatened the family, helps people in need, doesn't complain and everytime grandma can only complain and blame her.

The abrupt personality switch in this episode is giving me whiplash, lmfao. But how refreshing to see Er-Niang be reasonable and doing the right thing. I feel like at the end of the series they're having to do some convenient things to wrap up the plot points, at the expense of consistent character development
I more believe Erniang knows her sister well and they all have a backbone when needed. It's just hard to let old grudges go and she doesn't want to look weak. At this point, she knows Shiyi sincerely wants the best for her sisters and Lingyi truly loves her. Erniang is more bark than bite towards Shiyi now.
Sisters can be your best friend or worst enemy, but most of the time if someone who isn't in the family tries to bully them they will fight hard for each other. Siblings have complicated relationships.
I was surprise to see Erniang defends Shiyi from the Grand Madam. Mr. Ou is to be blame he keeps saying he will stay away from the place but still going.
people are saying how unfair the family is to Shiyi. but if you consider the time this is supposed to take place, Shiyi is already allowed to do WAY more than what she's doing. women were simply not allowed to do more than being an SAHM back then. it's good that none of that is an issue for women anymore.
That's a misconception. In imperial China since the Tang and Song dynasties (centuries before the Ming, here represented) women worked as spinners, weavers and embroiderers throughout the country. The separation men outside/women inside just meant that women mostly did fabric work indoor. After all, China's most famous product for millennia was silk. The real problem, here, is only that Shiyi is now a noblewoman and *as such* she's not supposed to show herself in public.
I love this CP. When I read that they had 16 year age gap, I was so surprised. I usually don’t like such big age gaps in pairing but Wallace Chung and Seven Tan really make these characters believable. I hope in the future to see more drama/films where they work together.
That kind of age gap is actually probably realistic to the drama itself as well. Remember that Shiyi is probably about 16 when she married Lingyi and he already had been married and had Lu, who was probably around 8 or 9 when Shiyi and Lingyi were married. I can easily see Lingyi as being in his early 30s in comparison to Shiyi being around 17.
Seven looks so young its totally believable when she was presented as 15 at the start of the drama, she's actually over 30 years old though! WC is in his mid-late 40s but he too appears much younger, like he's about 35ish

Concubine qin set up shiyi well but the marquis defended well. 😅😅 All that skimming went to waste because the two love and trust each other. They're of one heart now nothing comes between them.

Humans are unpredictable and we don't know who to trust. Zhiyen was working with ou family brother. So she's trying her best to give hard time to shiyi. But I'm happy because erniang stand up for her shiyi this time. This what I want for erniang ❤️❤️applause 👏 Lingyi since he first met shiyi, he was so caring towards here until now. This old lady mother-in-law is such a pain in the neck. This girl can do nothing right in her eyes. She’s such a bully, yet she never got mad at the concubine that caused so much trouble before. I know this is a different time, but I would have left that family long ago. There is no loyalty between them-they’ll turn on each other in a moment.
They take shiyi for granted, she is way too underappreciated in the xu family. That old hag is long expired and lost all ability to tell whos bad and whos good, just look at how many times shes blamed shiyi and supported the wrong people. It is very obvious that she has a huge bias against shiyi. She's been thrown out and sent away many times. They treat her like a object, throw her away when they want and bring her back when they want. Her achievements outweigh her faults by a lot yet it feels like her achievements are forgotten and her faults are always there in the old bats mind. No matter what, shiyi will never be trusted in this household, even if she saves the entire family, she won't be trusted...atleast not with that hag alive. I feel sorry for shiyi, shes like a bird trapped in the cage of the xu household. Her talent is wasted and her freedom is gone. Not only that, shes had so many plot against her, not one day is peaceful. Shiyi could've had a life like Master Jian.

The bias against Shiyi runs so deep for Lingyi's mother that even when she sees the good Shiyi does as soon as she becomes a minor inconvenience then she gets blamed and punishes two-fold. Shiyi will never be able to please her because she simply does not like her. The best thing for Shiyi would be for her to die peacefully (and quickly) so that she can live out her life with her husband without that old hag causing problems
The only excuse I can come up with for her to be so biased is that Shiyi is a concubine's daughter instead of a "legitimate" one...so the mom has always seen her as a lesser person, one who's easy to toss aside when not of use anymore. She gave that one concubine a 100 different chances, because she was a legitimate daughter even if she ended up as a concubine...her status was higher by virtue of her parents...smh.
I believe that 2nd madam/sister-in-law is a wise and prudent lady after all. She will come around once she's calm down and think through. She's still full of pain and anger in her heart from losing her husband and father, which is understandable from her perspective. Yes, it is unfair to ask Shiyi to give up her tiny place of refuge(Xianling Pavilion = Her freedom to be herself) her dream, her hope to be in control of her own destiny instead of accepting what the society labels you and tells who you are to be and to do... It takes a great strength, faith and courage to go against the flow of society. Looks like she's paving the path for others like herself to not give up. Great canyon wasn't paved in one day!
Oh... Mother In-Law, you should see that Yulz does not know how to draw and asked for help. Shiyi just helped her without any doubt about your rebil with the Ou's son.
If the old madam Xu had seen & heard the widows/refugees thanking Shiyi & Master Jian for teaching them embroidery skills so their work can be sold to provide food/shelter/clothing for their children & themselves 🤔 then the old madam ought to be ashamed of herself. Instead of criticism towards Shiyi as if she had done something shameful. Shiyi is just teaching life skills to earn that living.
Sister-in-law don't do nothing at the house but stay under madam skirt tail, she should've made the memorial piece herself that way it would've came from the heart instead of having someone else do it
I tell you. Shiyi and Lingyi are the only normal sensible and selfless people in this family. And his brother too. Shinyi has never done anything against the family but all for them. Yet this bias mother in law is always looking for loopholes and ready to punish her harshly at the slightest opportunity without even hearing her side. I hate it so much. Why should the poor girl who's trying so much to be good to everyone, without being calculative or scheming be so badly treated. Selfish arrogant lots. For them she's just a thing or a tool. But thank God for her upstanding loving husband. What a miserable life she would have had.
As if Shiyi isn't at home when her husband is. Doesn't he go off to court and to do court business (plus whatever else he does for the family income) during the day and evenings? The funny thing is that people who tend to be busy all the time are often the best at accomplishing their normal work plus anything extra. I think it has to do with being naturally industrious, which Shiyi is, and with wise time and resource management, which Shiyi seems to be good at.

They treat her like a object, throw her away when they want and bring her back when they want. Her achievements outweigh her faults by a lot yet it feels like her achievements are forgotten and her faults are always there in the old bats mind. No matter what, shiyi will never be trusted in this household, even if she saves the entire family, she won't be trusted...atleast not with that hag alive. I feel sorry for shiyi, shes like a bird trapped in the cage of the xu household. Her talent is wasted and her freedom is gone. Not only that, shes had so many plot against her, not one day is peaceful. Shiyi could've had a life like Master Jian.

The bias against Shiyi runs so deep for Lingyi's mother that even when she sees the good Shiyi does as soon as she becomes a minor inconvenience then she gets blamed and punishes two-fold. Shiyi will never be able to please her because she simply does not like her. The best thing for Shiyi would be for her to die peacefully (and quickly) so that she can live out her life with her husband without that old hag causing problems
The only excuse I can come up with for her to be so biased is that Shiyi is a concubine's daughter instead of a "legitimate" one...so the mom has always seen her as a lesser person, one who's easy to toss aside when not of use anymore. She gave that one concubine a 100 different chances, because she was a legitimate daughter even if she ended up as a concubine...her status was higher by virtue of her parents...smh.

The funny thing is that people who tend to be busy all the time are often the best at accomplishing their normal work plus anything extra. I think it has to do with being naturally industrious, which Shiyi is, and with wise time and resource management, which Shiyi seems to be good at.
