- The Ultimate Warrior was one of the true legends of professional wrestling. During his time in the WWE / WWF, Jim Hellwig was able to capture the imagination of millions of fans, become a worldwide fan favourite and becoming one of wrestling's most recognizable superstars. The unique character of the Ultimate Warrior was truly what the late 80s and early 90s was all about.
The Ultimate Warrior started his career tagging with Steve Borden, better known to wrestling fans as the legendary Sting. Jim Hellwig decided to go solo and become The Dingo Warrior in WCCW. It wasn't long afterwards that the WWF came knocking on Warrior's door, and he was brought into the company and eventually renamed "The Ultimate Warrior".
The Ultimate Warrior became a huge star in the WWF, exciting fans as he rushed to the ring with high intensity for his matches. His theme song and entrance became just as important as his matches as he rose up the WWF ranks, eventually winning the Intercontinental title from The Honky Tonk man and having storied matches with Ravishing Rick Rude. Eventually, The Warrior was able to capture the WWF Championship in a well remembered WrestleMania moment. At WrestleMania 6, The Ultimate Warrior defeated the face of the WWF, Hulk Hogan.
This mini documentary from Wrestling Bios looks at the career of The Ultimate Warrior from his WWF debut year of 1987 all the way up to his departure in 1992. Topics covered include:
02:23 - Jim Hellwig and Steve Borden begin their wrestling journey

Nothing can describe that feeling as a kid when the warriors music hit!!
Winston 1875 still gets me even now.
I think when the music hit we ALL became “little warriors”
It was such a big rush. It was amazing RIP jimmy
Nothing my brother
Don’t forget the 2 hands pumping up and down, and the mouth blowing.
It’s all about the Howard finkel introduction
“The uuuulllltimate warrior! “
from parts unknown!
weighing 275lbs
I also liked when the Fink was told by Jericho, that he was a Warrior. The Fink ran to the ring with the UW theme song and shook the ropes. Hilarity ensued.
Finkel - annnd the NEEEEEEEWWWW WWF champion........id get chills
Well without the entrance the Warrior loses a lot of appeal so the 'Fink' does help in the Warrior. lol
The Warriors matches seem to be under 3 minutes. ;)
Warrior didn't refuse the suspension letter. The postman just didn't know where Parts Unknown was so he never got it.
Great reply made me Chuckle
Bruh 😂😂😂😂😂😂
It is in upstate NY
Awesome! 😂😂😂
LOLOLOL, so true.
In every still image, he looks like pure energy
Pure energy! Incapsulates him so well!!
You have to understand, it was the 1980s, and Kayfabe was very alive. We actually believed the warrior had super human strength.
@@jgfjgfify Yep
Robert Cullen on the head
The guy was huge! Roided up but huge!
@@pezpowerproductions2602 So were others in the 80's. Heck, even people that were not huge were on roids.
Waddya mean believed?! He surely did have super human strength!
The main reason why I became a wwe for once in my life. The costume and the charisma of this guy is out of this world..RIP to the legend..
RIP Warrior!!! You were one of the reasons I loved WWF when I was a kid. You will always be remembered.
Ultimate Warrior theme music was super dope
Childhood Warrior fan here .
A memory that really sticks out was one day after school my mum took me to a toy store called “ Young World “ to buy the Hasbro wrestling figure of the Warrior👌👌😆
Great careless memories 🇬🇧❤️
Did you have to use it to show the people in court where your mum touched you?
The 1990 Royal Rumble was not just Hogan inadvertently eliminating the Warrior.
During the Rumble at one moment, all other participants were cleared out by Hogan and Warrior and only those two briefly in the ring one on one.
It was electrifying and the crowd stood in attendance, to witness something that had not been seen on PPV. The two top babyfaces facing off.
Yep. And they clotheslined each other. I remember watching as a kid and thinking they were the last 2 as that would have made sense to do as well.
My favorite wrestler of all time!! He was the 1st one to have the intercontinental and world championship belts at the same time when he beat Hogan!!!
Savage and Rude made Warrior with undeniable chemistry, not Hogan’s match.
That's due to just how good they were. I mean you put guys like rude and Savage in the ring with a broom and they'll make it look like a classic.
Shay Dillane, so true. Rude and Savage were ring generals.
Without a doubt Rude and Savage made Warrior look like a million bucks
Ultra Sonic, totally respect your opinion. For example Rude vs. Warrior Summer Slam rematch for the IC Title and Savage vs. Warrior retirement match or heel savage world champ vs. Warrior IC champ MSG matches were so alive. Depends on your prospective. Respect your opinion, though.
Savage and Rude were ring generals in and out of the Ring!!! It’s amazing how they actually made Warrior wrestle and take bumps !!!
I still own Wrestlemania 5 on VHS. My favourite part of the match is right at the start when Rude goes to knee Warrior in the gut, but he sells his knee because he actually hit the IC Title belt that Warrior still had around his waist. It's the little things that go a long way. The whole rivalry between Rick Rude and the Ultimate Warrior is definitely worth a watch.
Such a great way to start the match. Right after this, Warrior just throws Rude from turnbuckle to turnbuckle. Rude bumps so hard around the ring for Warrior.. it was so good.
The Summer Slam 89 rematch is so underrated it’s not even fair.
@Christopher Palmer Also, a weird bit in the match where Heenan goes in his pocket for no reason. It doesn't tie into the match. Heenan just fixed his pocket lol
Ahhh Shaddup
I always thought it was cool he had different colored belts, his ic belt was yellow and he had a blue heavyweight belt I think
Black White Blue and Purple WWE belt.
Wow brother that's something I've always said! He did have the IC belt in yellow! But the World Championship belt he had it in obviously in Black, White, the light blue, a dark blue and the lilac light purple titles! He was and still the only one who ever did!
He had a white IC belt too. Remember when Cody brought it back as a tribute
Yea that yellow IC belt was Sic 💯💯
He really brought the character to life... As a kid back then if I didn't see the ultimate warrior I would be mad as hell!!! One of the greatest of all time no debate!!!
And here I thought it would be a 30 second squash video.😄
You know, it really surprises me that, out of all the Mad Max style movies that came out in the late 80s/early 90s, and Warrior wasn't in a single one.
He would have been perfect as the insanely charismatic leader of a post apocalyptic gang.
Killer job on the video, btw!! 🤘🤘
Ya Hollywood really dropped the ball there huh
He actually was in an action movie in 1993 called Firepower, he played The Swordsman!
In the near future, street gangs have their own city zones where cops can't go. Two tough cops are sent undercover in one of them to investigate an illegal cure for AIDS. But they must first fight in a deathmatch, and the match is fixed.
@@JasonHawk No way? Thanx for informing me of that , ima try to find it.
ThunderDomeBoxingTalk No problem at all. I’m surprised you’d hadn’t heard of it. Jim Hellwig/Warrior is The Swordsman and he just happens to be the leader of the gang. Here’s the link. ruclips.net/video/zpNm4jk5LE4/видео.html
@@JasonHawk O wow a link , Ty again brother
He remains to this very day as the only man to hold the WWE Championship and the Intercontinental Championship at the same time.
Yeah but titles mean nothing now this was when it was a massive deal
@moon dawg HHH held the World Heavyweight Championship and when Kane lost the match the IC title was declared inactive.
Wrong Brett hart did it buddy

Good old Times with this Lunatic
There will never be another one with such charisma
My favorite out of all of em.....even today. RIP
Yes mate same as that the Ultimate Warrior was always the greatest..
His soul will run forever RIP Warrior
So cool I ❤ Warrior - I was 2 in 88 and I remember Warrior and falling in love with wrestling ever since 🙌
Ultimate Warrior was definitely one of my favourite wrestlers when I was a kid
The Savage vs Warrior match might be his best match during his WWF/WWE run.
agreed.
"Might"??? Is there any doubt at all.....? Did he EVER have a better match than this during his entire career?
I was a 11 year boy at mania 8. When his music hit all us little boys lost our minds!
His promos were pure jibberish, but who cares? They were awesome! Lol
I do bc Jim sucked and was green and too stiff in the ring but yet he wanted more money 😂
At least they were more entetainig than most WWE promos these days.
His promos is what made him.. hes hands down 1 of my favorites ever .. definately my favorite of that era !
chris jericho said it best. "You listen to his promos and you'd go, i don't know what he is actually saying. But it sounds cool. So, YAY!!!!"
@@westnile21 ok...g-g-go sit down. Sit. Good boy.
Kinda funny a guy from a tag team called "The Road Warriors" is mad about someone being unoriginal haha
Been waiting for this one! At one point my favorite wrestling character. But I was young and he appealed to us all. What could have been is so uncomprehendable.
Sting and Warrior trying to walk through a door together was hilarious.
I love how you refer to those days as the ‘glory years ‘ because that’s exactly what they were with some of the most incendiary characters ever to grace the squared circle and it’s so cool that you give these legends their due ..
I wonder how Vince feels knowing g how shitty and sterile wwe has become and try as he might - he will never ever recapture these wwf glory years .
That's because he ruined current wwe with his poor decisions. Stop drinking the cool aid
Thank you. For this video. Thank you for this tribute.
floating threw the veins the power of the warrior
My favourite childhood wrestler and hero. My first ever wrestling match I watched was with ultimate warrior Vs Andre the giant at Saturday night main event in 1989 and on the same night the genius beat Hulk Hogan. He died on my birthday and I was generally gutted loosing your child hood hero.
I know he has controversy with his later comments but thanks to the warrior he got me into wrestling and still watch it to this day and on my birthday this year I ticked a bucket list off and went to wrestlemania. Thank you Ultimate Warrior always be my number one
Man... If he only went to the hospital after his final appearance on Raw after Hall of Fame induction. He might have lived... He was showing all the signs of heart failure during that speech. 😔
What signs was he showing.
I was gonna go to his funeral but it was really hard to drive to parts unknown
Plus it always hails there.
You should have TaKEn tHe PLanE, CASSIUS THATSME!
Hahahahaha great comment
You sir deserve a medal
@Fahrenheit Games yes it is
Great video. I found it when trying to show my young son the Warrior's entrance. I remember when I saw it first, we had the WWF at the time in Dublin but it was his "first" entrance on that, I think they said he was a newcomer to the WWF. The energy, music, run, shaking the ropes, smashing the opponent, it was iconic.
I think I was about 12 at the time but he seemed super human. He looked a level above everyone else. Totally crazy. Instant hit. Thanks for video.
Anyone from the time can’t deny how amazing he was. Carried by better workers no doubt. But worse wrestlers have had better pushes and got nowhere. Gobshite maybe, but at the time ,
The Ultimate Warrior was the man.
Most of the best wrestlers of the era. Now have passed to better life. Those wrestlers who have passed away . Really made wrestlin history.
My favorite Warrior promo was the 90 Rumble one, just epic. "YOU HULK HOGAN (as he points and looks at the camera)...walk with a forcefield around you that compares to the one I walk with, in destination parts unknown" Sorry if I F'd that up I'm paraphrasing and too lazy to look up the exact quote but it was awesome!
The ultimate warrior had the best "look" in wrestling entertainment period!!
I liked seeing his energetic entrance but my biggest memory of him is vomiting because of Papa Shongo.. it wasn't a ho train in those days
No one could pull off what warrior did for WWE. Ever. Long live The Ultimate Warrior.😎
I can remember being sooo torn as a 9 yr old boy during the Mania VI match... lol.. I had been a Hulkamaniac pretty much my whole wrestling life up till that point, but Warrior was a close 2nd.. lol I was cool with Warrior winning, though I gotta admit I was pulling a lil more for the Hulkster! good memories!! Also, Warriors light blue belt was f'n badass imo! Classic!
I find it interesting how much The Warrior and Sting have in common.
Abdoulhay Ceesay sting was better in the ring
@@michaelmccoy4506 much, much better. This guy was one of the worse. But he had a gimmick. The younger fans took too him. Not us older ones after watching Brett,Sting,Macho Man,Steamboat. Guys with skills. Then to ask us too buy into the Warrior and his personna, no way.
would love to see a video about hercules hernandez....I liked him back in the day....doesn't seem like he gets any attention
Same here!
Mantaur too.
Sadly overlooked.
Did Hercules Hernandez pass away ?
@@lion-orichie398 lhe did
CazzSDMF couldn’t agree more. Ray was awesome. As a heel vs Billy Jack Haynes and face vs The big earthquake! And teamed up with Paul Roma as power and glory. Just a great talent
I could watch any warrior match over and over, he was entertaining and the crowd couldn’t get enough, I have never cared about rating matches, I was there for the entertainment and charisma.
Not fan of Ultimate Warrior as a person but I respect his contribution to the business. Good video.
TheAutistWhisperer Ditto.
My favorite wrestler of all time.
intensity thy name is Ultimate Warrior. He was definitely one of my favorite all times wrestlers.
After watching dozens of your videos, I just wanted to say that I think you are a good and thoughtful storyteller.
The ULTIMATE WARRIOR is until Today my favorite Wrestler. Awesome Video ;-)
Thank you.
I don’t care what anybody says or thinks T.HE ULTIMATE WARRIOR will always be my all time favorite!!! EXCELSIOR!!!
Couldn't have popped up in my feed at a better time! Bored on the elipticle, I'll go 20 more min just for this!
I miss him so much! He was a Large Part of my Childhood! Forever a Warrior Fan!
Awesome video 😎👍
This video was way better than Warrior's WCW run
I agree 💯.... WCW was boring 😴
I just wanted to say u do a hell of a job on these documentaries because the memories I have about being a wrestling fan in this era you cover it
props to the guy doing these videos and the detail he gives
cheers, cant beat the warriors efforts to be a character
I love your videos, thanks for taking the time to make them for us!
Great video covered the warriors career, loved the late 80s wwf
Great video..
He is favourite of all time.
One Warrior Nation
At a such a young age I thought the warrior was literally a mythical creature, he just completely made me look at the TV and all every time I would watch WrestleMania with my buddies, like he was just the coolest thing that there ever was lol I guess you could say still is....
Great memories of the Ultimate Warrior! Great video. With Hogan best theme music & wrestlers ever! 😃
This video and warriors series and reliving the war is why I love this channel so much
I was related to he Warrior from marriage. Our family would get backstage passes every time he came to the Hoosier Dome. I will never forget as a young child getting to meet the Warrior with his makeup on.
Another great video, my man. Warrior was my favourite wrestler when I was about 9. I know he wasnt the best worker but I was in awe of him as a child.
Great to see another video. By the way, do you have a stream-labs or a patreon account? I would love to support your channel.
ultimate warrior will forever be my favorite wrestler!! when the music dropped and he came flying out like an unstoppable force of nature, i still get goosebumps!
Another video, another masterpiece. Love your work, my friend!! As always you exceed my expectations. Thank you for the time you put into these videos. Don’t ever stop!!
Good video didn't now to much about the warrior, going to check out the other video now
Absolutely superb video mate! When I was wee I thought Ultimate Warrior was the man, had a poster of him in my bedroom. Only when I got older and smartened up on the business that it dawned on me his in ring limitations and subsequently terrible attitude. However these things will never take it away in my eyes that he was a true legend in the sport. He did have the X factor.
I hope there’s a second part too this keep up the good work man amazing videos
Thank you for making these videos.
It helps put some of these wrestlers timeline pieces together cause your so young and cought up in the fight to not think about it being fake or about the behind the scenes feuds and contract disputes.
I still to this day love the WWF and it was history with those old school guys. This new WWE is alright but it's more lights and bs not that true battle feel anymore.
Even Goldburg vs Lesner was garbage.
Man the WARRIOR WAS OUR WHOLE BLOCK WRESTLER. I use to come off the top ring rope like the WARRIOR. 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
The musical intro to this video is awesome!
"Forever and ever, Oh my God" -Ultimate Warrior
Fantastic vid 😊
Warrior was badass....that's all you need to know!
Randy Macho Man Paffo Savage and Jim "Warrior" Hellwig, two of the best of friends in real-life. I met Warrior while I lived near his home in Scottsdale AZ in the mid 90's until 2012. I have to say, Dana and Warrior were the nicest people that has ever walked this Earth. There will be no one else more inspiring and wise, who cared for people to believe in themselves like Warrior. Heck, his RUclips videos were motivating, very intellectual and articulate just like him. No other wrestler ever reached out to his fans or simply to those who needed an injection of pure inspiration quite like him. In the end, all he wanted and be was a real good father, a mentor and a role model to his kind-hearted daughters Indiana and Mattigan. Rest in Peace Warrior! Thank you for making my teenage years fun and Ultimate!
You know it's gonna be a great video when Wrestling Bios' intro music is the same music played on Smacktalk's YT channel.... I'm probably not the only one that noticed this lol Anyways, great video!
Really? It's a random license free song I found on RUclips Sound Library. One of the many reasons why I don't like using songs there, but it did sound very fitting
@@WrestlingBios I know it's a royalty-free RUclips song. I was just making an observation. I like the song regardless of what channel it is on.
I was waiting for you to do this one! Your content is excellent, well done 👍 love your channel
your timing is awesome... I just watched the 2 warrior vids wwe put out.. i love self destruction for it's own reasons. Adding you makes an excellent trilogy!
Where did you find self destruction? Been looking for it for ever!
@@ed-roc2054 DVD. Sorry. The one I never got was the one warrior released himself in response to Self Destruction because i couldn't find it anywhere but I think SD is on RUclips somewhere. The fact that it's so blatantly negative only seems to add (to me) to the mythos of the character. Almost like he's portrayed as part of a horror film at times.
Video I love the work time and effort you put into your channel keep up the good work bro
This guy was a joy. So many good memories. He wasn’t some technical wrestler he was a power guy. A couple of power moves 123 THANKYOU come again. Fanatics. I was one of them. May he rest and peace.
Back when Ultimate Warrior showed up in WCW, I remember a friend telling me that it wasn't REALLY the Ultimate Warrior. That original Warrior died, and the current one was really his brother. Apparently, there were people who really believed that at the time.
I remember first seeing him as a kid and was awe strucked, one of the reason I became a character and creature artist and was SOLEY focused on anatomy and muscles i had a plush of the damn guy as a kid.
I was one who never believed there was 2 Ultimate Warriors
I agree! That was common sense!
I knew it was same guy back then ..the warrior just lost muscle mass when he came back in 92 that's all 💪
Yeah that was a stupid conspiracy.. Lol.. There's was only ever one Jim Helwig..
@@iamthatguyfromslipknot1137 that rumor was running as rampant as the Warrior to the ring where i live js.
if Vince McMahon could of found someone to impersonate him he would of trust me lots of people loved him
You make amazing videos. You dont degrade anybody or make snarky comments. I really enjoyed listening to it. Great job my friend.
I bought into the hype for this guy so much as a kid! I’d got into wrestling just before Mania 6 so I missed a bit of Hulk’s rise and this guy was like a living action figure or super hero! I know it’s easy to mock him now but as a kid he was The Man!
I loved wrestling in the late 80s early 90s what a great time to be a kid
What an entrance and entrance music!
Rest in peace ultimate warrior
Keep her lit, but don't burn yourself out mate. I saw you post about time issues, so take your time. Your videos are informative and great craic to watch. I'd prefer less videos than no videos at all.
Ultimate Warrior is MY and ONLY #1 favorite wrestler until this day and I am 35 yrs old. I don't f*cking care what everybody says about him. Ultimate Warrior had charisma and IT factory especially his entrance music, there's something about it that really cracks me up!
This is a great channel!
all yr vids rule brotha 🤘
Cool vidéo
sweet! its about time
They did give Warrior a great feud as champion, when the Macho King came after him for the belt. It was a huge, HUGE mistake for the then WWF to have Hogan wrestle Slaughter for the belt at WM7, instead of having a championship rematch between Warrior and MK. Didn't make sense that Macho King didn't go after Slaughter for the belt. That match at WM7 would have been even bigger if the belt had been involved.
