Dark FCWF My SINGULAR complaint with it is really a relatively minor one. I would love to see LG psuh an update that let the Google Assistant key be simply an assistant key. I use Windows and use Cortana on a nearly daily basis to set reminders and stuff for me. I also use Microsoft Launcher, which integrates Cortana into the launcher. I would love to be able to use Cortana with that side key, or have the option to. If I set cortana, either from the launcher or the Cortana app itself, it'll disable the button and the only way I can use my assistant then is if I hold the home button. I would love to use that button, and give Cortana commands right there without having to unlock my phone. Granted it's a non issue for the most part, I use face recognition on my phone to unlock, so by the time I am looking at it it's unlocked, but still.
Bought for $450 at the end of August from Verizon! Great phone for great price! Half the price of new flagships but still just as good as the new flagships.
So...I watch a lot of these phone reviews and I find it odd that no one ever talks about if the actual phone calling works well or not. Is the antenna on the phone good? is the call quality good out the box? IS it better to use VoLTE or keep the settings a certain way? Is the default flashlight bright enough or will you need to download an app? Are you reviewing this phone for people like you who trivialize over small things or for regular people who only care if their SC/IG/FB/RUclips works well or not? What carrier are these phones for? Does it TRULY MATTER if users have the newest android out the box if what they're using works as advertised? Are your photo criticisms for the sake of IG photographers or for people who just like uploading pictures of themselves and they're babies? I mean if you're purposely talking about people who are as into phones like you, then cool, i guess these reviews do their justice but if you hope for everyday people to research and watch these videos, I feel like you're not making anything easy for them or talking about things that matter. Just my two cents. I'll still watch these videos just to be in the know but i'm genuinely curious.
I guess the rule of thumb is that the "average" person doesn't regularly watch tech videos like us "nerds" do. Though I do feel that having the latest version of Android is pretty overrated because there's never anything "revolutionary" from last year's version to the current year's version. Google has never really been an innovator in terms of software development anyway and are always playing catchup to the current hot trends (see notch adoption for Android Pie). I honestly think it's just something these tech reviewers repeat from each other for the sake of having something to critique. If it works and works well, what else am I really missing out on? Gimmicky gesture navigation that nobody asked for?
Gesture navigation is nice. Whenever I'm on an android device I miss the swipe right to go back gesture, same as when I'm on Apple I miss the swipe up for app drawer and down for notepification shade.
You do know that LG has a setting which by default slows down the launch animation of apps to make it feel more natural? Its in the developer settings under Drawing. Also, install the Pixel camera app and you have a device that in my opnion is much more desireable the Google's recent efforts (although I reckon the V30 is the best phone LG have made).
You have to remember that for a lot of us, the One +6 is out of the question because we’re on Verizon. Although, I totally understand the appeal for it. It is a fantastic device, but again, you get what you pay for. Furthermore, I got my G7 from Best Buy, where they always have promotions, like $300 off, so I got mine $300 off, plus I traded in my iPhone 6+ so got an additional $125 off. So technically, I only paid $325 for mine, and at that price, it was WELL worth the price. Obviously, to each their own, but the G7 had all the options I wanted and some I didn’t know I needed till owning it.
Hi, I am a smartphone user and I am personally very frustrated and tired of popular youtubers that review smartphones judging the speed of a phone based on opening apps. I'm not sure how but they all seem to forget that user interfaces have different animations and transition effects which could be removed, speed up, or even slowed down by simply accessing developer options. Opening the same application on two different smartphones and comparing the sped is not a test of how fast the phones or how the operating system runs on a smartphone.
I don't know about the V30 being 'better', I doubt it. To say that a mature, major electronics, namely smart phone, manufacturer is going to put out a worse product than their previous is a bit much. There's obviously going to be differences considering that the two in question are aimed at different market segments, but the G7 is clearly an evolution of LG's lineup and the features that they're associated with their brand(the DAC + HP jack, unique wide angle dual lens configuration, rear mounted button, etc.). I'm sure my V30 will last me a couple more years, but as of now I wouldn't hesitate to get a G7.
What about the G7 having a newer, more power efficient CPU? This phone has on 4GB of RAM but thanks to the Snapdragon 845 it is RARE that I wish I had more due to the device slowing down. I have been using it for a long time now... Had many a drops too... No case... Still doing great... Camera 10/10 Boom box Speaker loud enough for concalls and the best the 3000mah battery lasts the full day on heavy usage...
Just bought one of these in the beautiful metallic grey finish. Form factor is reasonable in 2019 considering some of the Goliath handsets already available. To preserve the case I bought a semi-ruggedised Ringke Fusion clear case which allows the phones beauty to shine and while also providing reinforce corner protection. The subtle textured dot matrix feel of the case is easier to grip, so ideally less likely to slip out of your hand and drop.
Even the akgs he uses won't pick up the difference between a lossless and lossy audio format, especially with a phone DAC. ( Edit: To a level where it justifies giving up the better selection of Spotify for the limited tidal selection)
I have the LG G7 for more than 1 month, it is very good phone in general with a couple of bad points. The camera, in a few words, a monumental failure, the images at 100% of its size look like watercolor paintings, but it improves a lot with the application of "google camera". The battery gives me about 5 to 6 hours of screen, which is not bad, before I had a htc10 and I lasted the battery 3 to 4 hours of screen. The audio is great, especially with headphones, I have some hd650, akg k712 pro, beyer dt 770 and pushes a lot, none of the above requires maximum volume, BUT ................ as long as they are headphones more than 50 ohms, otherwise the amplifier is not activated, and we have a very conservative volume, this leaves planar and orthodinamic headphones with little volume margin. The screen is impressive, despite not being OLED, the performance is very good.
I got this phone for $410 with Koodo. My other options were over $700 for the Samsung S9 or over $1000 for the Apple X (all 3 have similar performance). Getting the G7 made the most sense.
2 years ago bought the lg g5 because it was 150 bucks for grade a and ranked between 6th and 12th depending which site and scored between 2700 - 3000. out of a list of hundreds of phones. now the g7 is $275 for grade a and its ranked between 10th and 20th and scores 5900-6200. they are the best bang for the buck.
I have the G7 ThinQ but my pictures are really grainy. Especially with less light (indoor pictures even during the day) I have no idea what I have to do to fix that but I can't imagine that this is the way it was supposed.
This review is spot-on. Basically, most short-comings & typical LG-indifference to their customers were carried-over to the G7-model from the LG-G6-model. The LG-g7 is an upgraded G6-model. The only good feature - like the G6-model - is the milled metal-frame, which makes this /phone very sturdy. (Unlike eg. a Huawei Mate Pro 20; one bump with that /phone inside ones trouser-pocket against eg. a door-frame & the screen-corner will be split.)
Does the G7 suffer from overheating like the older versions? I had multiple G4's that ended in bootloop issues because of overheating and my current G5 has developed GPS issues due to frequent overheating causing the pins to warp and no longer be grounded on the back of the phone. The G5 tends to get hot with only 10 minutes of normal use such as watching a video, playing a game or even browsing. I don't want to purchase another LG if this issue has not been addressed.
Does this phone have GPS issues like my LG G5? Also, does it have the ghosting image retention issue like the G5? Any other issues to note? Looking to get this G7 this week, but don't want to get screwed like I did with my G5 (can't even use my GPS, need to use blue light filter to prevent image retention)
I decided to go with the oneplus 6 instead of this phone. As an audiophile i already have a dap (a shanling m0, which uses a very similar dac/amp to the g7) and while i was tempted to get it for its compatibility with Google fi, that was the only real selling point for me that wasnt just a nice to have. Plus the promise of good long term support (both from oneplus and custom rom support) really sold me on the oneplus 6
Does this phone work for at&t? I’ve heard mixed things. Does it get LTE? I’ve heard someone mention volte, does it say volte or lte at the top of the phone for the network signal?
With HTC, my long time go-to, seemingly having all but evaporated from the high end smart phone market, Samsung phones having lived up to their mediocre, bloated performing reputation, and zero desire for anything with a fruit on it, LG has become the latest go-to. With a design & engineering strategy that seems aimed more so at the technical/pseudo-"enthusiasts" of the market, they're striking the right balance for me of average, conservative style & construction, "power user"-esque hardware & features(like the quad DAC, HP jack, wide angle dual cam, etc.), and a seemingly performance oriented general approach. Or maybe I'm just a sucker for their marketing & gimmicks over the other guys...
Just got mine for $200. Upgrading from my glitchy beat up LG5 (I had the 3 and 4 before) but I love my LG5. I love the widgets and cameras works just fine for me. No other phone compares to LG's practicality but I do fall for the Iphone 8+ front camera!
You left out so much useful information. Battery life is very important to mention, for many users bad battery life can make the phone entirely useless. Also it would have been good for you to have actually said which phones had better cameras for the price! Saying 'other cameras priced 600-1000 have better cameras' is useless, it sounds uniformed, we have no point of reference and 600-1000 is a huge price variation.
If you travel a lot with headphones, the DAC and amp are a blessing, especially with FLAC files. LG really needs to step up their game in some other areas like Eber said and I can confirm his review points since I got the LG V30.
Honestly this DAC thing is overhyped, every phone has a decent DAC that can play 24bit/96Khz files, it's the headphones that really makes a difference. Samsung started including those AKG buds that are amazing, better than the shit LG has been giving with their phones since the G2
A better DAC and Amp will have a noticeable difference compared to phones with a basic DAC. I compared my phone with my friend (who doesnt care much for audio) who has a One Plus 3; using the same headphones and songs (from spotify) for both phones he instantly heard a difference in quality and clarity. Better headphones will make the experience better, but better headphones on a basic dac )like on the Pixel or samsung phones) will pick up the flaws in low quality audio a lot more.
I perfectly know the beneficts of a better DAC, it's just that LG DACs are not that better. Furthermore, if you listen to 128Kb MP3 files a better DAC shouldn't be the first thing to change, every flagship nowadays has a good if not amazing DAC that supports 24bit/96Khz files and will sound good no matter what. LG marketing is bullshit honestly, well, like their phones
Hi, I'm still using G2, but it's time to upgrade it. Could you please advise what to choose: G7 or V30? My main concerns are the screen and camera. And battery life ofc.
T-Mobile had the G7 ThinQ on sale, so I grabbed it on the recommendations of my ex and my son. I'm pleased, coming from 10 years of Samsung's flagship phones.
Does anyone know which phone is the same in shape but without the fingerprint scanner? I don't use it so I'd rather have a case without the scanner hole. Anyone know which type of case I should get?
This phone is now cheaper than the oneplus in the UK, couple that with wireless charging, ip68 and a quad dac it's a no brainer.
And don't forget the super wide angle camera
in the uk you can unlock the bootloader. Not the case in north america. I can't go without magisk.
Just wait for the bootloop feature.
Daimn! now that "bootloop" was some awesome feature can't deny that eh!
Also a worse camera, non-OLED screen and worse build quality.
A MAJOR reason why buyers care about this phone is the High end Headphone Jack.
i agree
I won't even touch a Samsung phone due to their bloatware. Still like LG user interface more .
Truth!
Yes.
I am looking for phones that has such an 3.5 jack, I honestly care about the audio-related specs in any phone than notch less or bezel-less design.

No removable battery anymore?
I'd love to know what wallpaper you're using.
I'm thinking of buying the LG G7, if you have one, do you like it? I have an old LG G4, the camera on it was really good.
Do you play spintires??
Does the G7 suffer from overheating like the older versions? I had multiple G4's that ended in bootloop issues because of overheating and my current G5 has developed GPS issues due to frequent overheating causing the pins to warp and no longer be grounded on the back of the phone. The G5 tends to get hot with only 10 minutes of normal use such as watching a video, playing a game or even browsing. I don't want to purchase another LG if this issue has not been addressed.
Should I get this phone as m first phone? I've never owned LG only apple and Samsung so should i?
What Jack is the g7 ?
Do you consider the HD 58X Jubilee (Massdrop) an upgrade from the HD 598?
I have both and the 58X is better imo
is that a spintires wallpaper?
Best reviews in all of RUclips hands on !
Ok but does three back/battery come off?
I have the LG G7 and am unable to pair with IPX earbuds, please explaine
I wonder how well the boom box speak works with a case on.
Has Dmitry got the XT-20 or XT-2? Just got the XT-10 and already feeling camera envy
I swear LG could go so far with proper marketing. I only stumbled on this phone by accident...
is this a canada version?
Hi, I'm still using G2, but it's time to upgrade it. Could you please advise what to choose: G7 or V30? My main concerns are the screen and camera. And battery life ofc.
Batter life: V30, as for camera and screen, not sure
What about real battery life/SOT? I've heard the battery is about the same as on the g6
Hi, considering the music quality from headphones, does lg g7 fit is same as the thinq model ?
I love LG's UI designs,DAC also the best function in market.but please give us best specs, don't sell so late.
Is this type c 3.1 gen1 or gen2. type c 1.0 version not sure. What is best speed it does when transfering to ssd or pc with 3.1 port.
My G4 got 1 update.
lmfao
Do you think this is still a good option in 2019 up against the new Samsung s10e and IPhone XR?
Yes it is, you can buy one for much cheaper now days.
Hi man how are u , can you please guide me which phone is best lg g7 thanq vs oneplus 6 vs pixel 2xl
T-Mobile had the G7 ThinQ on sale, so I grabbed it on the recommendations of my ex and my son. I'm pleased, coming from 10 years of Samsung's flagship phones.
Buy a good case I personally use Otter box only. That will make it easier to use for the one hand operation.
How's the camera quality, in particular the quality of videos in low light? I'm planning to buy any one of LG G7 thinq, Nokia 8.1 or Pixel 3a
Pixel 3a better camera
@@ismail3732 thanks..
Does anyone know which phone is the same in shape but without the fingerprint scanner? I don't use it so I'd rather have a case without the scanner hole. Anyone know which type of case I should get?
If you don't like a saturated screen on a Samsung, putting the phone display mode into basic makes them pretty color accurate.
How come you didn't review it in June Eber?
Does this use a MicroUSB for charging?
USB c
