  • Festool UK have very kindly lent me a Kapex KS 60 mitre saw so that I can show it to you in a video. I have made two videos, this one examines the saw and preparing it for use. The second video will show it in action and check out the accuracy.
    Please do not ask me to check any measurements or complicated detail as the saw will have been returned by the time that you see this video.
    The bottom line - it is excellent.

      Hi Henrie, It is a lovely saw. The second part will be ready very soon, hopefully the day after tomorrow. In that I put the saw through its paces and show people how road signs can be made ! ! I am also working on a video about the CTM26 Extractor - not so easy making that an interesting video. It is a great extractor, does its job exceptionally well and that is about it. Take care. Peter

    Hi Peter saw delivery was successful! Thank for reply. FYI clear bag that came with saw that had the feet in it to make it sys one compatible, included a longer screw and spring to replace the short one. So it can have the extra support required at the front.

    Such a great in depth review Peter and this video has cemented my decision to buy the KS60 in the next few days.
    Also interesting to hear you comment on the brushes as I recently went over to the new Festool TS55 track saw and was a little surprised at the motor smell and sparks etc when I first used it, wasn’t particularly worried but good to hear your explanation! 😅

    Thank you Peter, as always very comprehensive. This is a serious contender for my small workshop so I'm interested in how it performs and of course the dust extraction. Even as an amateur I'm becoming much more aware of 'dust' in the workshop and have re-visited quite a few of your videos and effective dust extraction seems to be a major advantage with this brand placing it head and shoulders above the rest. My old Jet mitre saw needs replacing so I await your next video to see it in action and any comparisons you make with its bigger stable mate (the Kapex is way out of my league). Thanks gain
    Regards
    Mike

      Hi Mike, The dust collection is excellent. It is an accurate and well thought out machine. Do watch my video before making a choice. I already have the larger KS 120 and I would not swap but it would be a hard choice if I were starting from scratch. Once you have seen Part 2 (that should be no later than Sunday evening) do try and get a demo at your local dealership. Peter

    Hi peter i went down the street and was talking to the man in total tools ,they sell festool tools not a super big range.Not like carba tec in sydney australia but okay.I was asking salesman about the set extra,s that should come with the KS 60.The elavation kit plus the angle finder and the long front support feet for the front of the saw.I was telling the salesman about you in the uk and david stanton man said he will look you up on utube. I told them you are great to watch.See i brought the KS 60 because the shop is not far from my house.I have brought a lot of festool tools outside albury where i live sometimes.

    Hi Peter, great video, extremely informative and well presented. I am now a channel subscriber. My only tiny bugbear is your pronunciation of the word détente; it is French as I am sure you are aware and is pronounced as “day tont”. The acute accent over the first e gives this pronunciation.

    Hi Peter
    Another great video thanks. As a result of watching your series of videos (and I have now retired so have some free time) I decided to try my hand at some woodwork and have invested a fair bit in some Festool kit. (Never been any good at woodwork so thought it about time I tried again).
    I have just purchased the Ks 60 and would like to ask your views using it and other power tools left handed. When using a portable circular saw for example I find it very awkward with the blade on the right. ( I believe you can get left handed versions in the USA but not in the U.K.)
    Probably a bit of a strange question but wondered if you have ever heard of any safety issues using power tools left handed? I guess the Ks60 is ok standing either side of the blade.
    Please keep the films coming.
    Brian

    • @NewBritWorkshop
      @NewBritWorkshop  7 лет назад

      Hi Brian, My brother is left handed and he has not problems that I am aware of. The KS 60 is symmetrical as far as sawing goes. I often use my TS55 left handed as it is sometimes easier depending where the wood is that am cutting. Obviously drills and tools like the Domino are just as easy. So, I would suggest that you do not worry about it. Many thanks for the kind words and enjoy that lovely KS 60. Cheers. Peter

  • @Gidjoiner
    @Gidjoiner 7 лет назад +1

    Hi, I bought the KS120 as a replacement for my shop mitre saw, (your vids helped me on that purchase, Thanks ) Loving it, beautiful machine, I was thinking that i would be able to transport it to site if needed but it is a bit too bulky ( & far too nice for site work ) so I'm happy to keep going with the Makita for that. Getting to my point - I was going to buy this machine KS60 but the 45º only cuts up to 40mm, therefore i wouldn't be able to mitre a piece of 3x2, old imperial or the smaller modern metric sized wood. is that correct? ( because I'm still tempted to buy another Kapex for site work, might have to get the KS88E which does 55mm @ 45º but costs £775, nearly as much as the 120 & as big.

    • @NewBritWorkshop
      @NewBritWorkshop  7 лет назад +1

      Hi Gid, A 45 Degree mitre cut can be up to 215 mm wide and 60 mm deep and so will easily manage your 4x2. If you were cutting a 45 degree x 45 degree compound then the cut would be 215 mm x 40 mm. Peter

    • @Gidjoiner
      @Gidjoiner 7 лет назад +1

      Thanks that's good to know, thought it was odd that it wouldn't be able to cut a standard 2" timber. I wasn't sure when i read the specs on this machine, I could've saved a few pounds but still not regretting buying the 120. Might just have to buy another ;)

    Hi Peter ordered the KS60 for our site needs so the 120 can stay in the workshop. Thought I'd watch your video to get "fam-ed" up on it prior to arrival. Bought the set version, like the led when I seen it on demo at our shop from Craig. Just had a thought. If you put the feet on it to Sys 1 height. Does that not make the black adjustable knob at the front (first mentioned very earlier on in your video) redundant as I'm assuming it won't touch the table? Due to the extra height gain. Great video. Thank you

    Is it possible to rotate dust port to left or right so that the saw could stay close to wall with hose attached? If not out of the box, is there some special accessory for that?

    • @NewBritWorkshop
      @NewBritWorkshop  6 лет назад

      Yes, it will rotate. I cannot remember if you have to loosen a screw in order to allow it to move but it is something that the user can do very easily. There is no need for any special kit at all. It is a long time since I made the video but remember this part quite well. Peter

    Well, that is really weird. Up until now I thought that every button/switch/knob etc was green. This is a great system so that even if unfamiliar you have a clue what to look for. The big knob at the back and the front is blue??? And the 2 to adjust the sides.

    • @NewBritWorkshop
      @NewBritWorkshop  7 лет назад

      I very nearly said something about the colour of the knobs but it is the same on other tools. I think that the green idea is for those things that are for the user to adjust or set for a change in function rather than an adjustment for comfort. Anyway, there must be a very clever person in Festool who decides. Peter

    • @NewBritWorkshop
      @NewBritWorkshop  7 лет назад

      Hi Nicholas, This really does depend on what type of work you do and your budget. The KS60 is absolutely the machine for the rad warrior, will suit the lower budget static person but will not quite match the KS120 for overall performance. I really like the +60 -60 degree mitre capability of the KS60 but would find it hard to be stuck with a maximum 60 mm depth of cut. Peter

    Hi could anyone answer my question I’m a carpenter joiner so I cover anything with wood but spend most of my time on site roofing and doors skirting etc so would a ks60 be able to cut a 50x200 at say 45x45 degrees for a hip roof or valley is the blade deep enough for this kind of job yes I know the is 120 would be better but i get caught out in rain snow sun so I couldn’t leave myself to leave a 120 outside

    • @NewBritWorkshop
      @NewBritWorkshop  4 года назад

      Hi Mark, You can cut a 45 x 45 deg hip at up to 215 x 40 mm. A straight 90 x 45 deg cut is 215 x 60 mm and a normal 90 x 90 deg cut is 305 x 60 mm. So not quite there for your hip joint. Peter

For workshop based people the other make and model to look for is the Bosch Glide. I see that the Bosch GCM 350-254 Slide Mitre Saw does a compound 45 x 45 deg at 226 x 50 mm and is not too expensive. Peter

I would very much value your advice here in as much what your opinion would be with both saws and your views, thank you for taking the time to help me, keep up the great work, ps I have a number of Festool tools but according to the reviews they suggest that the Kapex 60 is very underpowered and that worries me, thank you again regards Louie from northern Ireland

    I assume that if one has a KS120, and has no portability concerns, there's no real reason to get this, right? It doesn't look like there's any increase in cut capability in any direction, minus a few more degrees of angle. It's difficult to tell, but I assume the max cut width is the same as the 120?
    IOW, I assume this is more about making a more portable miter saw for trim work.

    • @NewBritWorkshop
      @NewBritWorkshop  7 лет назад +1

      Hi Pete, Yes, it s about being more portable and I will stick with my KS 120. It is a close call though as the price is quite tempting for the first time Festool mitre saw buyer. Peter
