What Happens When I try to be PRODUCTIVE

  • What’s another two months, right? 🫠
    I was SO excited to finally move these Hoya cuttings to LECA and then the momentum just got obliterated when I ran out of resources 😩
    It’s such a fun medium to test out because it’s no mess compared to soil and requires much less upkeep. I top off the reservoir when it gets low and every two weeks, I “flush” the LECA by running it all under the sink. If I feel extra spicy, I’ll do a hydrogen peroxide/water flush if there’s any algae build up.
    Pro tip: Mesh laundry bags are a great way to wash and store LECA for future use 🤌
    As a bonus, I’m going on another trip soon so all my LECA plants will be many less things to worry about when it comes to watering.
    Have you tried LECA? Also, WHY does everything take 10000x longer than you planned 🫠🫠🫠🫠

      @@xcountryrunner9 leca usually comes very dusty, it can cause drainage issues if there's a lot of debris and if you have a water system it can mess up whatever machine you're using. I mainly do it so the reservoir doesn't look dirty, I don't use it often though.

After having to move it to paint the windowframe, I gave it fresh earth when I put it back. Within a few weeks it died of rotted roots😢. I still miss its smell and the nectar.

    HELP! I think my little Philodendron gigas is dying and I don't know what to do. I'm sorry, this has nothing to do with the video, I just really don't know what to do. I've had it for 9 days now, when it arrived its leaves were strong, but now they're all hanging down sadly. His last leaf is really weak and has places where it looks like it's been gnawed on. In addition, the place where a new leaf should come is turning brown, losing its colour and becoming soft. It gets enough sun, has a soil mixture of orchid soil, perlite and potting soil, so it is well-drained, and I have watered it only once. I really don't know what's wrong with it, maybe someone can help me :(

    • @ohtheplacesyoullgrow
      @ohtheplacesyoullgrow  Год назад +6

      Oh no! I would take it out of the pot and examine the roots. If things are turning brown and mushy, you want to look for any signs of rot. If there is rot, cut off the brown parts and soak the roots in a hydrogen peroxide/water mix and then repot into fresh clean soil

    Is leca good for hoyas? To me they seem to have more of a succulent nature with their thick leafs and like to be watered once a month. I dont know if the constant source of water is tolerable to them. Please update on their growth!

    • @heysfb
      @heysfb Год назад +2

      I’m certainly no expert but from what I’ve gathered, they are succulent like, the soil should dry between waterings and the roots don’t like to sit in too much moisture. Less is more with Hoya watering, supposedly.

    • @ohtheplacesyoullgrow
      @ohtheplacesyoullgrow  Год назад

      This is definitely true when they are in soil, but many have successfully grown Hoyas in LECA and since these were propagated in a moist substrate, im hopeful they’ll transition well 🤞

  • @sosasheena1755
    @sosasheena1755 Год назад +1

    Ohh should the leca be washed until the whole outside layer comes off? If so, I had no idea😮. I bought leca, soaked it in water for a bit and then planted one of my cuttings in it but nothing came of it. And some of the balls developed a white coating in top. 😢

    • @ohtheplacesyoullgrow
      @ohtheplacesyoullgrow  Год назад +1

      I wash until all the clay dust comes off and the water runs clear when I soak it. The white coating is likely just salt/mineral deposits and can be easily flushed off.
