Thank you for not bringing politics into your videos. The government does what the government does. This is when everyone should be helping each other instead of arguing. Stay safe young man. Thanks for all your videos. I get a vacation from every time
Hi my name is Ron. I like your videos. As a boy I lived in apollo Beach Florida and caught many trout off the beaches. My mom would fry the row of most any fish and they were tasty. This was in the late fifties and early sixties. Thanks for your videos,!
Great video showcasing how different parts of a fish are enjoyed. Snagging fish is one of the main techniques I saw living in Vietnam. No piece goes to waste. The only thing missing is a cold light beer for that fish fry!
Thanks man. You are slowly becoming my top fishing channel. Here in SW Florida we could use some sunshine. It’s on the way. As usual our town in Punta Gorda took another beating. Nice to see you come to our neighborhood sometime. Last week I caught a 5 lb largemouth and a snook from the same canals the flood and runoff are moving them up near the spillways.
I've been eating fried mullet and roe and tails since i was 6 years old and im 56 now used to be a staple in my house growing up and i enjoy mullet every chance i get and they're even better smoked my Dad used to send me out with a snatch hook many an afternoon after school to catch us supper yet another great video that mullet looked good!!
Bro haters will hate no matter how humane or inhumane you do something keep doing what you love we both enjoy fishing and you have a lot more people who enjoy your videos than people who don’t!
Brandt, I used to fish with your dad about 10 years and he taught me so much. Thanks for the incredible videos and inspiring people to get out and fish these local spots.
Brant, thank you for your attitude. I love that you have consistently produced and uploaded videos. You've been one of the most consistent providers out there, Thanks cause I can't get out as much as I used to. Guess I need to catch some mullet. I;ve eaten alot of fish but no mullet. I'll look for a place to do that,
I was born and raised in the Florida Keys. We never ate mullets like this. The only way we did eat it, was Smoked. Now that I'm in 60's, I might try it fried.
Glad you are safe Sir. Prayers for all the folks in Florida, we used to go to Florida multiple times a year for different events and vacations. The folks are wonderful, both coasts beautiful, and everything is nothing short of a great time. I love fishing and maybe the next time I get down there I can try some sort of fishing. God Bless !!!
Great video Brant. We would love to see any fishing videos you want to do. We live in Arkansas and met you, Bearded Brad, and Matt "Beach Bum" at Beach Bum Outdoors over Labor Day weekend. We love the store. It had everything we needed for our Gulf water fishing weekend. We love fresh water catfish so go for it.😢
Loved this video. Grew up in Milton and ate at Reggie’s a million times. Fished all over the area. My brother and your dad played ball together. Moved away but still have family there. Love all your content! Would love to see some flathead videos.
Im cuban and when i was in Cuba i used to eat mullet left and right, for me ,when it comes to fried fish nothing beats mullet,we also make slices we marinate them and then we fry it ,yummyyyy!
Im frim So Florida but Military has taken me all over the world. Im an avid fisherman and have gained several fishing buddies from various parts of the country. They look at me like I have a foot growing from my forehead when I tell them we prefer mullet over catfish where im from.....lol. Thanks for showing and confirming what we do sometimes.
About 6 or 8 thousand years ago there used to be a thing on the East Coast of Florida called the Zellwood Cord festival and it also coincided with the mullet run near Sebastian Inlet. Beautiful white corn was 13 ears for a dollar and Mullet were plentiful in every cast net. They shut down corn farming in Zellwood because corn was bad for the environment, but the memories of the times last.
Grew up in Merritt Island, FL and was always catching red fish, but we when we needed some more fish when more people showed up for dinner than we planned, we would go caught mullet and then blacken them just like the red fish. Miss those days!!!
Thank you so much for showing the mullet gizzard. We always had to decide whether to eat the gizzards or fish with them. We had a 600 ft gill net and caught 100s of mullet. Love them.
Mullet has its own unique taste, it kind of remind me of a quail , which has its distinctive awesome taste. The only difference between us I think the skin on it with a mustard and hot sauce mix puts it over the top . Be safe and blessed out there dude
Grew up on blackwater bay we did the feed bag and came pole thing. What a blast. Filled wash tubs with mullet I think if kids had that experience today they would never play another video game again
Spent many summer sunrises on the islands in Perdido bay by the pass with my grandfather snatching mullet. Looked a lot different in the 80’s and 90’s.
I had a friend one time cook up some mullet with our snapper and he didn’t tell me he did that. He served them all together because I was one who said I would never eat mullet. It was so delicious and he didn’t tell me until I was eating it. I’m so glad he did because I would have never eaten it on my own. Great video as always.
Flathead. I'm 60 now but when I was young my dad, my uncle and my grandpa would set lines on the Ninnesqua River down near Oxford Kansas. One labor day weekend we caught over 400 pounds of Flathead. My dad could read a river better than he could read a sentence Wild Bill. We would always have a big fish fry . The eggs were unbelievably good. The nest tasting Flathead at least around here aren't the big ones but rather the 7 to 14 pound range. The meat just tasted fresher . Limb lines along the river in a flatbottom boat with my dad. Best memories ever.
When I was a kid my dad and I would fish the Chesapeake Bay for catfish and croaker. It was the best fried fish I've had in my life. Not sure what kind of kitties they were but they were incredible. We would make fried catfish nuggets and put them on Hawaiian rolls with tartar for some fried fish sliders. I'd love to see some catfishing on the channel.
Great video love mullet but the belly meat is allot and all it has is long rib like spines that can be easily picked out, just me but I would definitively would not waste that ./ Cooking the spine is also great no waste I personally like to fry fish whole skin and all just score it a few times.. Great video enjoyed it
👍from Phoenix, AZ, interesting video! I’ll try some mullet next time I get to FL. We catch some Big Flathead Catfish in reservoirs out here. I’d like to see you fishing for them, Brant!
Formerly from the Islands and I love mullet fish we catch and eat them all the time. We fillet them put them in a smoker and eat them like fish jerky. Delicious! Or fry them as you did and make fish tacos with avocado, radish, lettuce, habanero peppers, and a splash of spicy mayo. You can thank me later. Another way is cooking /baking the whole fish including the head, removing the scale, and cleaning the mullet well, put mullet on a sheet of foil smothered with spicy mayonnaise with a dash of black pepper, salt, and a slice of lemon or any citrus, wrap and bake at 375 for at least 45 minutes or so and its ova! Enjoy buddy.
Thank you for the great video. Here in North Louisiana, we fry the whole bream (small ones) and the tail and fins are excellent. I've caught quite a few flat head catfish from our lakes. Some of the ones I've caught from the Red River are quite large (20 to 30 pounds), but it's just for fun because the river is polluted. If you can catch them where you are located, I would enjoy watching.
Back in the day years ags, I had a friend from the Tampa area. When he would fly back to Ga. to visit, he would stop and get a package or two of smoked mullet. He would come over to the house and we all would eat smoked mullet, and we all thought that they were amazing. Very good times had by all.
Brant, my first duty station in the Navy was Whiting Field from 1977 to 1978. My buds and I would ski on the Blackwater river every morning. I heard you mention Reggie’s in Milton I used to go there to eat all you could eat fried mullet! Loved that chow!
Absolutely would love to see flathead videos why wouldn't you your excellent with all you do love watching your videos and learning different techniques
Great vid. Just caught some mullet today in my cast net and fried them up with the white roe (my favorite). Try seasoning the fish with season salt and Old Bay before you dredge the filets. Then spritz the hot filets lightly with key lime juice. Next level IMO.
I grew up in the 60’s in the Midwest and we ate the roe from almost every fish we caught that had it. The only fish that we didn’t eat the roe from was Gizzard Shad . If you go fishing for Flatheads use some of your offshore gear, those things can get pretty big below the big dams. Great show by the way.
Just got out electric back down here ready of Brandon. Good to be cool and watch your videos again. Tomorrow will be cooler, so back to the wood cuddling and fence mending tomorrow. Hey Brad we use to eat bass roe when we were young as well, it is delicious also! Great video as always!
Easiest way to catch mullet on rod and reel is to use a very small hook (8 or smaller) and put a small piece of bread on the hook. Don't press down on the bread so that it floats. They love it.
Mullet is great .was at that bridge Saturday morning. Yellow river has some very big catfish and u can get there very easy.i know you don't do a lot of fishing up there but I get there from blackwater all the time and there are tons of fish and half the pressure. Great vid
Appreciate you Brant, and always enjoyed the videos, especially at the moment down here in Lee County. I'll have to vicariously fish through y'all till we get ahead of the cleanup, but we will and then it's game on for some later season catch of Drums, Snooks, and Specs.
Grew up in Navarre on the bay. Mullet was a staple of life (along with oysters) for us growing up. Have not had any in a while, but it's definitely good. I remember restaurants having all-you-can-eat mullet on the menu...sure do miss that.
I was a kid in Florida and I would catch mullet on a cane poll with bread wadded up on a hook in canals that were packed with mullet but I couldn’t into eating them . Lived in Hialeah in the 1950s. The only thing we used mullet for were bait. I was a kid about 11 or 12.
When I was growing up in St. Pete late 80's early 90's. We would visit friends in the panhandle. The highlight of the trip for me was stopping at a little shack on the side of the road. That had a big sign said smoked mullet. It was so..... good. Last time I visited the panhandle. I couldn't even find anyone selling it.
The other side of the island I front of that dock used to have an area baited with burlap sack with some kind of meal, anchored and tied to some poles in about 6-8 feet of water. Bunch of older guys would use cane piles or fly rods with a couple of treble hooks about 4 inches apart, tipped with a bit of plastic cut from a white grub lure, below a popping or tip-up cork. When the tide was in and at a stand still, it was on. Those guys would keep the bite going by tossing a handful of rabbit food or sinking dog food. Anytime a bite was detected they would snatch it like you were in the video. If they didn’t hook one in the mouth, it was a better than good chance they’d snag one.
Brant, try making bottarga (cured mullet roe) one day using the roe of these mullet. You can find step-by-step instructions on RUclips. This Italian and, more generally, Mediterranean specialty is absolutely delicious, especially when grated on spaghetti or eaten on a small piece of bread with good-quality butter and a glass of white (very dry) wine like Muscadet. You will love it. BTW, when you talk about “white roe” you probably mean milt, don’t you?
Great video - and you are right about fish can taste different by where they live and what they eat - My thought is if a fish eats muck, it can taste like muck unless there is a way to prepare it so it doesn't taste like muck. Same goes for most game animals too. But really good video - thx
I’m from a very different region of the country so eating mullet is very foreign to me, but I absolutely loved this video. Now I’m hungry for some mullet!
I used a similar method back on Long Island. A weighted treble hook. Treble came with lead fixed to the hook. Cast out with a Heavy Spinning Rod into schools of Moss Bunker. (pogies). Reel fast and make long sweeps with the rod. Live Bunker was great bait for Big Blues, Striped Bass and Huge Weakfish. Caught my PB Weak on a live Bunker. 12 lbs!
You need to bring a boat and come fish the river below Seminole lake. Every kind of catfish, striper, gar, perch, big mullet, panfish, bass. Even flounder and sheepshead are sometimes caught. 140 miles to the east. Worth a couple days fishing trip. Couple good camp grounds and a small motel in Snead's. And of course, you can hit the lake to. Just be careful of where you are because you could need a Georgia or Alabama license in some parts of the lake. But unless you want lmb or panfish, hit the river.
There use to be a big Market for Mullet in the late 60's and 70's. there were mullet boats all over the sound netting mullet. we had a net we used from shore and caught all we wanted. We would also cast net them off Pensacola beach bridge the old one. I fished with Don Smith from Smith fish came our favorite was mullet gizzards all the old fishermen called them "Hockie Lockers". Good luck Ilove your show. Watch is about all I can do nowdays
Here in northern New Mexico, it's kokanee salmon snagging season. Delicious and fun to catch. These land locked salmon are dying anyway so it is encouraged here! Love your videos!
Let the haters hate, brother. Mullet aren't the only fish that are snagged to be caught. My late grandfather used to snag paddlefish on the Missouri River every spring and fall. I can still remember eating the paddlefish caviar when we would visit. Delicious!
So I've never had roe like that but I do now! I've known that mullet was bait but I've never said I wouldn't eat it but I want to eat it now specially that back bone! Fish tails have always been awesome!!!! But oh sweet baby jesus in a tuxedo t-shirt!!!!!....I want a "fish" gizzard!!!!! Absolutely love fried chicken gizzards since I was knee high to a grasshopper!!! Great video sir thank you!!!
Growing up in Pcola, mullet was THE fish at all gatherings. Always enjoyed Gators, Nichols, Chets, and the other fine eating establishments. I still prefer it over many of the more notable species. The wife thinks I'm crazy but what does she know. Always enjoy your channel.
I have to say, I lived in Bama for about a year and a half with my at the time girlfriend. Being from Texas, mullet is trash/bait. So.... when I heard about the mullet run and mullet toss and the mullet festival I was taken a back to say the least. Couldnt believe my ears mullet was considered table fair. Still haven't tried it to this day but it's not off of my menu. The wife and I enjoy your videos. Tight lines sir!
Thank you for not bringing politics into your videos. The government does what the government does. This is when everyone should be helping each other instead of arguing. Stay safe young man. Thanks for all your videos. I get a vacation from every time

Reminds me of my brother and me meat fishing where we grew up. If you're catching food, it's all good. Thanks for sharing.

Love your videos! The first time I ate fried mullet was at Dixie Crossroads in Titusville. It was delicious. Good for you for using all the fish!

Grew up with my grandma frying mullet my whole life here in pensacola, always loved eating the fins like potato chips , never let it go to waste

Rabbit feed & cane poles with some wigglers work well also
Rabbit feed makes sense. Never thot of it before.

11:02 I've been fishing my entire life and still can't get my aim right with my casts. You are spot on. Hey from Milton.
I'm in Milton as well, where is this little pier?
Flathead. I'm 60 now but when I was young my dad, my uncle and my grandpa would set lines on the Ninnesqua River down near Oxford Kansas. One labor day weekend we caught over 400 pounds of Flathead. My dad could read a river better than he could read a sentence

Great video love mullet but the belly meat is allot and all it has is long rib like spines that can be easily picked out, just me but I would definitively would not waste that ./ Cooking the spine is also great no waste I personally like to fry fish whole skin and all just score it a few times..
Great video enjoyed it

Fishing over Politics 🎉
Omg definitely 💯💯♥️
Hay Brant, love your videos. Also, mullet is my favorite. My dad had a mullet boat when i was growing up. We were famous for smoked mullet, in Tampa.
Im from Tampa and I remember the Mullet Inn in Tampa.
Thank you for the great video. Here in North Louisiana, we fry the whole bream (small ones) and the tail and fins are excellent. I've caught quite a few flat head catfish from our lakes. Man it all looks great. You give me so many great ideas to go fishing.
Bring on the catfish videos, man. Just another idea for the channel . I definitely would watch them .
Would love to see some flathead content. Bring it!!
Just got out electric back down here ready of Brandon. Good to be cool and watch your videos again. Tomorrow will be cooler, so back to the wood cuddling and fence mending tomorrow. Hey Brad we use to eat bass roe when we were young as well, it is delicious also! Great video as always!
This was a great video I love the diversity in all your fishing techniques 🤙🏼👊🏼🎣
I grew up in Panama City eating smoked mullet - by far the best way I have ever had them! My Mom always sauteed Speckled trout roe and loved it!
We call the mullet, Biloxi bacon over here on the Gulf Coast of Mississippi.
Easiest way to catch mullet on rod and reel is to use a very small hook (8 or smaller) and put a small piece of bread on the hook. Don't press down on the bread so that it floats. They love it.
Roe is delicious if you fry off some bacon, then flour and season the roe and fry it in the bacon grease. Serve alongside the crisp bacon.
That sounds absolutely amazing 😍
Awesome videos!
Love em!!
Mullet is great .was at that bridge Saturday morning. Yellow river has some very big catfish and u can get there very easy.i know you don't do a lot of fishing up there but I get there from blackwater all the time and there are tons of fish and half the pressure. Great vid

They were some big uns
Great job thank you
Brant, try making bottarga (cured mullet roe) one day using the roe of these mullet. You can find step-by-step instructions on RUclips. This Italian and, more generally, Mediterranean specialty is absolutely delicious, especially when grated on spaghetti or eaten on a small piece of bread with good-quality butter and a glass of white (very dry) wine like Muscadet. I would like to see a catch and cook of large flathead catfish. Never had mullet but this makes me want to try one next time I am in Florida
I am very envious of all those treats you were eating!
Love some big ol flathead. One of our best when we can’t go to the coast.
Awesome video! Yes to flatheads!!!
As soon as I saw the dock in the thumbnail I knew you were snagging mullet lol
my grandfather used to take us to Chet's in Pensacola for fried mullet. fond memories
12 lbs!
Spanish and king mackerel backbone is really good too
Caught a big mullet in my cast net a week ago, fried it up with the red fish I caught everyone liked it better than the red!
Now I want to catch mullet thanks for sharing
Yeah one of the ways you know you grew up in north Florida is eating mullet love the row one of my favs .

Mullet and tarpon is very good meat .
Hey love the videos I live in Baghdad rn and I’m always looking for better spots and how to fish them love the videos keep it up 👍
Yes for the flatheads!!!
Delicious!
I love mullet rows 😋
I would love to see a flathead catfish or big blue cat fishing video. Ive been an avid catfisherman most of my life. They are a blast to catch.
Not a mullet man myself ,, each their own ....
