    Interesting history there. Neat to hear about the river and of the rebuilding after the war. It really is a nice looking church with amazing architecture and design. Pretty neat that you have family history there too. Awesome visit for you. Thanks for sharing. Have a nice day.

    I love the title "The Cathedral on the Marsh." It sounds like the title of a gothic novel. I also find it so fascinating when I visit a church where my ancestors lived. I too imagine them being baptized in the font. It feels incredible to imagine that they would have sat in one of the pews and seen the same view as I. It also feels quite moving that were likely buried somewhere in the churchyard. It brings history and their lives closer. Thank you for a very interesting tour and history lesson, Stephen and Yhana 💕

      Thank you Julie and Lucy, If I had time. I would visit every church where my ancestors entered. I think it’s the closest you can be to them, like you said 😊 They sat in the pews and were baptised in the font. I guess in a way, it’s like walking in their actual footsteps 😊
      I always think it’s a shame, that those before us, are no longer remembered. Without them, we would not be here ❤️😊 sending our best and catch up soon

    Ooh, this looks an amazing and interesting place Stephen & Yhana! It is amazing how geology and nature can alter landscapes over time. Fascianting facts about the first coastguard. That is a very long aisle, isn't it! And, that font! Wow! I don't think that I have seen a marble font before. Glad the church was restored after WWII. Thank you for this - a lovely and fascintating tour. Take care, Paul.

    • @StephenandYhana
      @StephenandYhana  2 года назад

      I can imagine the damage was substantial after the bomb hit, I do have a question mark about the font. That possibly it could be post WW2, maybe the original was destroyed.
      But is also looks Georgian?! If so, it could be a replacement from one stolen or lost during the commonwealth period. I have heard of fonts stolen during this period and even used as horse trough’s.
      It was a stunning church and the graveyard was equally interesting. Just a shame the headstones were so weathered I couldn’t read any.
      Catch up with you soon buddy 😊

      Thank you, the church was certainly stunning. I’m pleased I ticked this location of my wish list. Sadly most of the headstones in this graveyard are unreadable, probably due to the ocean winds blowing across the marshes. My ancestors may well have had headstones here, I just could identify any. Except for the grave inside belonging to distant kindred cousins.
      As part of your own research, have you been to any churches?

      I think so too, I can imagine the bomb damage was quite considerably. Although it’s hard to tell from looking at the outside of the church just how big the damage was. They certainly reconstructed it very well 😊

    Looks really pretty .Lyddd is where I took my first ever flight as a child - Lydd to Ostend! Random!! Really interesting history of your ancestors. We loved the tour inside the Church. What a beautiful setting. Oo skeletons on tombstones!! Were they pirates? Lovely video 🍻

    • @StephenandYhana
      @StephenandYhana  2 года назад

      I think they could have been pirates, maybe there is a local story about the tomb which hasn’t been shared. Interesting about that first flight you took from Lydd, I did drive past the airport on my way to Dungeness. Lydd is a long way from Wales to take a flight though lol 😆

    Stephen and Yhana. Thank you for sharing your personal story about your grandfather, a coastguard, I remember. Ooops, my heart stopped for sec, Yhana. 2:56. I wish they have enough funds to display those valuable medieval stoneworks. 3:14 unless the church prefers them as they are on the pew. Indeed, very fascinating.4:58 Stunning timber ceiling.5:27 May I ask what those skeletons and crossbones are symbolized on the tomb chest? 'remember you need to die'??? Appreciate you, two's photos, memorable moments, especially to Yhana. Superb, Stephen. My fingers are crossed, this comment arrives at your door.

    • @StephenandYhana
      @StephenandYhana  2 года назад

      Thank you buddy, I’m not 100% why the skull and crossbones appear on that tomb chest, my vivid imagination conjures up times of pirates lol 😆 but that’s just my imagination I think lol 😆 it certainly stood out in that graveyard though. I can imagine who ever belongs in that tomb must have had some connection with the ocean. That symbol incorporates piracy as well as death. Being that Lydd is a coastal village, I would go with the pirate lol 😆 catch up soon buddy
