No offense Dan, but your persona is one of the funnier ones I've seen yet.
It’s terrible lol
@@macrumors they did you dirty on that persona
I kinda like it 😅
I thought it was juuust on the edge of UV -- better than I thought to be honest
they did what they could, they didn't expect him to have a square head, he had to fit in the frame.😄
Your nose looks like it got destroyed by the vision pro lol
Right
The eye tracking and fast and seamless window manipulation is incredible. The resolution is quite pleasing, from Disney+ to Photos to Safari.
Awesome, Thanks Dan! Can you give us some impressions on the amount of storage to get? - how much does the base OS use, how large are the apps with data? I assume the the spatial videos are stored in Photos and offloaded to iCloud, just like photos and video on iPhone/iPad? Can you connect remote drives like on the Mac via WiFi to add storage that way?
Can the store 180 degrees video demos be downloaded anywhere? Mine did not have any installed?
is the measurement done by the iPhone camera accurate to what you ended up getting for band sizes and light seals? Thanks Dan!
It was accurate yes. Somehow i got small for everything. Thought my head was bigger than that
def want a 3, 6 and 9 month later review for folks who are actually still doing productive work in Vision Pro haha. props to you if you do/are. as an entertainment device def i could see long term use for occasional sessions like a movie
Except only Apple is making entertainment apps for it, all the other players have flat out said they aren’t interested.
@@Dragon1276 Netflix and RUclips are the only apps I’ve noticed missing…I have already downloaded several dozen third party apps onto my Vision Pro so I wouldn’t go so far as to say “all” the other third party app developers will not be interested.
People should know that the screen recording does not truly reflect the quality that you see. It looks more digital in the screen recordings than when wearing the headset
Yeah the resolution of the recordings is bad. It’s not nearly like this when using
That persona🤣🤣 I tried the demo at the store today and I am excited to see how this product will grow in the future. I was more excited about it after I used it.
I wanna know (how) can I watch 360° video I've shot with my Insta360 camera on it? Last I read, VR content on youtube is not viewable on the AVP. Is this true?
Someone made a YT app. I think it's just the browser YT which doesn't have the VR stuff enabled, it should be pretty easy to enable in a 3rd party apps per the quest 3 which has numerous apps that run YT VR vids. Or if might just need a newer version of safari....as the Firefox VR app on quest lets you view VR RUclips. As for your videos, you might have to wait for a insta360 app unless they already have an iPad/iPhone app?
Could you Please try Polycam 3D Scanner (for Vision Pro) and if you could fly a DJI Mini 3/4 Drone connected to your Vision Pro?
How fast does the foveated rendering update to eye movement?
3:13 I’m sold. Gonna buy it just for the cloth. 😂
I've heard/seen in the simulator that you can place apps in different rooms in your house. Will it remember their placement between uses if you don't close them?
It definitely stays still. Not sure yet about coming back to it later but can certainly try
Question answered: YES if you take it off and it just goes to standby, no if you turn it completely off (E.G., disconnect the battery).
ruclips.net/video/LebeoXEkUg0/видео.html
And what is the resolution of the macbook virtual display?
Is there difference with the 16pro laptop matrix or 5k monitor? I am designer and i think virtual screen without hidpi and size more then 4-5k no make sense for working.
The Mac sees it as a virtual 27" studio display, but it's scaled down from 5K to 4K. Very usable from I've seen in reviews.
Can you show the accessibility features? Does it have live captions like the iPhone?
*If you connect a Macbook to AVP that has and mouse connected to the MacBook, will the mouse work with AVP, because AVP doesn't support mouse on its own.*
Yes, you can use the mouse through the MacBook to control the Vision Pro
AVP supports keyboards, mice, and game controllers. The only question I have not seen answered is if you have a keyboard/mouse connected to AVP, can you use that to control your Mac screen and not even be in the same room as the Mac since it is streaming the display over WiFi.
I’ll be waiting for the 2nd gen but can’t wait to try it in store with a demo.
I have a problem with one eye.. do you know if you can work with, let's say, one eye closed? I need to test it at an Apple Store but I wonder.. thanks
Can you do a compression check box of AVP vs. Xreal Air Glasses
I tried 3 light seals and they all allow for light to leak into my Vision Pro from below. Is this your experience?
Yes. Just a little at the bottom. It doesn’t really impact anything though. At least not for me but I did notice that too
Great video Dan. Appreciate you spending the time to unbox this for us instead of tearing right in which is what I would be doing. Like many i'll wait for a while until they sort these out and may buy the next version but i am anxious to see it in action. Great video. Now go put some ointment on that nose. Thats some crazy wear marks.
Is it possible to swap the view on facetime from your persona into the main front view of the vision pro?
Like show the person what I see? Yes. You can show them your entire view through the cameras and it will show your Vision Pro apps and your pass through
Thanks for your ongoing reviews. I have a question as no Vision Pro reviewer I've seen has tried this yet. I noticed that when you moved the Mac window up it tilted forward a little, which looked like it was due to your hand rotating.
Can you lay windows down flat on a table in front of you? Can we actually have documents on our physical desktop in front of us now?
I’ll have to try that haha
Also when you're playing with that DJ deck app!
Could you connect a Magic Mouse to your MacBook and then try Mac Virtual Display and let us know if the mouse can we used in the sidecar window on Vision Pro? We know that Magic Mouse can't be paired directly with VisionOS but hoping that mouse can still be used in the sidecar window even if you can't extend outside the window. Clearly I am not a trackpad fan :)
Is their anyway to do multiple MacOS screens, even if all other Vision Pro apps are disabled?
No it’s just one at the moment
Are you able to see small text on the vision pro clearly? I'm not sure if something was up with my display but a lot of the time the text seemed really small, especially when you were browsing.
Yes
Screen recording is just low res unfortunately. It’s very crisp
I wonder if the strap could be less thicker or the device is so heavy. I guess I need a demo at the shop 😀
Have you been any glare or reflections from the lenses with any content?
this device seems cool it reminds me of the device from tomorrow land when it does that glow in the visor
Thank for this walkthrough. Considering the amount of information you have covered video is pretty short and to the point. Your wife reaction to your avatar was hilarious. Can’t help but notice that you looked fatigued after using VisionPro for an hour. Don’t know how this will improve with time.
Different strap should help
Can you walk us through the accessibility features?
Will this play my imac screen ?
Great review! Definelty going to be an issue caring on a plane.
Today I wore it for about an hour and a half for the first time. I felt the weight. Later, I wore it and the weight didn’t bother me. I had on a Grace Eleyae cap (any bonnet type will do) which relieves head pressure a bit.
What happens when you run out of storage on the AVP?
can it work with mac mini without monitor
The outside kind of look like the iPhone box but larger. Maybe to show how one day ar headsets/ maybe glasses might be as normal as a phone.🤔
Can you watch your own movie files especially SBS 3D format off your computer shares?
You seriously think apple is going to allow that😂
@@SPECTREmVp.6936 Through an app like BigScreen yes
How about the cinema mode - that is what I am most interested in. Would love to see you review/show us that.
I’ll talk about in the next one. Haven’t had time to watch much
I demoed it this morning. I was slightly disappointed the movie screen size wasn't bigger than it actually was. It didn't take up the entire fov. I thought panoramic pictures were awesome though.
Dan, you did a great job on this video! Thank you for doing it.
I have ALS, and thus am fully paralyzed and can’t speak. I don’t need you to explore all the Accessibility features, but I am curious if there is a way to connect to a bluetooth speaker (not headphones) and speak through it? I need to talk to my nurses with the Apple Vision Pro on.
nice review!
OMG, I love this website.
Do the AirPods Max work with these? I think the combo might put you in the floor like a tent peg
I did try it in the video. It’s a chapter listed in the video but TLDR: no. Not really.
Hey, can you add in the review about loading and using 3D objects. Thanks 🙏
Face ID on the iPhone will not work so can you unlock via the headset?
It uses Optic ID, which is just like Face ID or Touch ID, but it reads your pupils / retina to authenticate you.
@@nick_hess but can it unlock the iPhone without you entering a passcode? You see Face ID will not work on the iPhone because u r wearing the Vision Pro
@@nick_hessHe's asking how you unlock your phone while using the Vision Pro.
Can it connect to a Mac Studio as well?
Any Mac
It is any Mac but I didn’t see the pop up on my Mac Studio yet
Thank you for that
For a first gen product this looks incredible, in 5 years this will be wild!
will be so tough for Apple8, I mean how can they shrink this more? As a powerful computer its already so small.
Did my Demo this morning. It's not over hyped, but here are my pros and cons:
Pros: Best VR ever, really intuitive, runs iphone/ipad apps so there are many thousands to choose from!, Immersion photos are amazing, has real productivity potential for video editors, graphic designers and even writers who cut and paste from multiple windows, easy set-up.
Cons: Not as clear as you would think though clearer than typical VR headsets, still blurry around the edges, although each eye is 4k overall image looks more like a smoothed 1080p, no elastic scrolling, eye selection works well, but can be off at the screen edges, movies look okay but much better in a theater or on your monitor/TV, 3d just looks 3d and not like you're actually there as some have suggested, pinch and zoom requires two arms and hands, eyesight looks spooky to others.
In short, this is a new platform that will continue to develop. The current version will be $999 in three years and the pro in 2027 will be smaller, brighter, clearer and have greater perceived resolution. Great start!
Uh, people have been making VR goggles for like, DECADES at this point, and this, to me, shows why the platform hasn’t gone anywhere. NO ONE, not even Apple, has done anything to make the case for why this should exist. I’ve yet to see any kind of 3D computing interface. Like you said, it’s a REALLY expensive iPad, locked down and strictly 2D. Not even Apple has made a showcase app for why strapping something to your face is necessary.
Yeah, I think it's an expensive entry level to a future vision (excuse the pun). Frankly, the advertisements made it seem much better than it actually was because its not as clear and sharp as expected and you can do most complex productivity work on a 32k monitor without being headstrapped. Success of VisionPro will depend on the evolution of the platform.@@Dragon1276
What’s the most time you typically spend in the quest three and how do you feel about feeling fatigued at only one hour?
Fatigued vs sick are two different things. I feel sick after like 20-30 min on quest
@@macrumors sick? What games are you playing? I myself get motion sickness from some apps like the rollercoaster ones but I regularly spend hours in it comfortably playing all kinds of things.
Hold bro your from Cleveland Ohio ??
Woodmere is our main Apple Store .
Great introduction, Dan!
This reminds me of the introduction of the original Macintosh in 1984. It's an entirely new way to interface with our computer that is really hard to explain to people who haven't already seen it.
It's kinda expensive, somewhat underpowered, not expandable, and sorta funny looking.
What would you even do with it?
I'm convinced, as a really fancy iPad, this is mostly going to be used for media consumption. The spatial content you create on it won't be transportable to others who do not have one, and it's uncomfortable to use for extended work.
You early adopters are going to have to find out and show up what it's really useful for, what works well, and what doesn't. As a first-get of an entirely new device, it looks amazing.
The potential is certainly there.
You are genuine 🎉 nice clear perspective
Very expensive and very cool and I would like this!
I’m not ready for this
You can really see the foveated rendering; it visibly blurs wherever you aren't looking.
it is so blurry, text and everything
Unless you have another pair of eyes, does it even matter?
It’s not actually like this. Just a low res screen recordings unfortunately
Did you find the broken pience of your nose from vision pro?
Cleveland ROCKS!
Incredible to play with one day after you ask yourself what for to use it 😁
lol 😂 me straeming
A couple of curiosity requests: Tim said he watched a TV series or movie in the AVP laying on his couch - how does the unit work/feel if watching a movie on the ceiling? Some of the Apple help pages show that they want you sitting upright when watching movies and such. Maybe spatial or 3D movies don't work on the ceiling? Also, the WSJ reporter used her unit while cooking and the 3rd party app Crouton. In general, how is moving around with the device feel? I mean, I know it is heavy, but for you, do you get any dizziness or uneasy feeling when walking around your studio or office and looking at both your surroundings and the UI?
After this weekend's tests - how does your nose feel? Looks like 60 minutes with the until did a number on it!
I can tell you right now that walking with it too fast does make me feel ill. Long distances in studio and moving normal speed was rough but I get nauseous easily with stuff like that
@@macrumors Thanks, Dan! Yeah, as do I. [eg: Star Tours gets me very queasy!]. Perhaps improvements to image stabilization or other methods not yet available, will help using it while in motion.
Amazing. Essentially everything that a quest can do
But better
In terms of display specs yes but nothing else really. It's that enough for and excess 3000?
@@chrisdacosta1824 The usability and accuracy. The security and the apple ecosystem. I mean it's no different from someone saying why not buy a $50 phone instead of a $1000 iPhone. A $50 phone can essentially do everything a $1000 phone can
@@chrisdacosta1824 Also the fact that it's at a premium price point because it isn't marketed towards people that are using these devices for gaming or using the quest 2 or 3. It's a high end product for developers and high end consumers that can use it for work/entertainment
The Apple ecosystem. Better security. More advanced sensors and accuracy. That and being it's a device marketed towards developers and high end tech enthusiasts. @@chrisdacosta1824
I played with it for a couple hours and you def can wear AirPods Max with it and the experience is perfection for film watching. Also the single loop band is perfect if used properly. Most people in review just used it wrong. You have to positing the back strap high on the back of your head and when you tighten it the weight is moved more to your forehead and is perfectly comfortable to wear for many hours!!
Despite the price, the Vision Pro is actually the ultimate form of portable computer if you think about it. You have a portable device with unlimited screens.
I’m listening to all of you out here and then I’m on my Facebook account trying to feedback information so they can improve this. I’ve given them a bunch of ideas about virtual input devices and masking those devices so they’re easy to see when you’re using them. Walking up to any keyboard and being able to just start typing on it and the headset recognizes your doing input to the headset. Anything can become a keyboard or an instrument. Betting on how good the tracking is and what you could do with sound monitoring and AI you might not have to sync up and just start using any keyboard that you happen to have sitting around. You want a blue connected keyboard when you’re doing something important but when you’re out running around whatever works. I wonder if the portable laser virtual keyboard could be improved and would work with this better and then they just put that in your AirPod Case : )
DJI, please develop and app that would work with the drones
The persona is still in beta so im sure its gonna get better.
Thx for the review. I’ll get the Meta Quest 3 now. I prefer lighter headsets with real games.
I know Mirroring works with a MacBook. But does Mirroring work a Mac mini or other non portable Mac?
Apparently not! MKBHD confirmed this in the podcast, it's actually insane to me that Apple doesn't allow mirroring with the entire Mac desktop line up.
Guess really Pro users and Developers use a MacBook Air
@@nightwaves_ I haven’t listened to the podcast yet. So only Pros, not Airs?
And I was planning on grabbing the new 15” Air when they came out this year. Dang.
@@GrantMcGrath My understanding is no desktops, but laptops are fine (Intel included). I have a M2 Air and it works fine with this
I thought it did but I can’t get it to show up so this makes sense
That's insane.
How durable is this Vision Pro? Would it survive an accidental fall from a table to the floor?
I think when you redo your Persona you need to hold the Vision Pro up higher so you are not looking down on it and use regular room lighting not the studio lights which sort of washed everything out. I think iJustine said she did it 4 times before she got a persona she liked (and she kind of looks like a little girl 😂)
I’ll try it at home this weekend
3d movie demo?
Screen recording won’t do that for copy right reasons
Gotta be here for future! - i'll come back after years!
How can it be worse than when you first tried it? What's different?
the eye tracking... To be fair, it has gotten better since update and better fit. Also, when Apple walked me through it, I had to go slow and take my time. When you get it yourself you try to move too fast at first and it's a process to figure out the best way to do it. Its mostly just with typing
@@macrumors The typing looks awful. One good reason to hold off until they figure out a better way.
cant wait to get mine tmw
Thanks for the video, Dan! 🙋🏼♂️
I think one reason everyone's Persona looks unusual might be that they're not holding the Apple Vision Pro correctly when scanning the face. The voice instructs to "Hold Apple Vision Pro at eye level," but many people seem to hold it about 5 inches lower, looking down, which might distort the face shape and change the overall look. It could be interesting to see someone do it exactly as instructed to confirm or refute this theory.
If you don’t hold it in the right spot it will tell you. Might not look like eye level but the cameras are mostly on the bottom too. Not entirely sure which ones it’s using to scan
Crazy to see it in real owners' hands!
Right?
Excellent !! 2h battery life is more to force people to take a break 🤣
You can just plug it in
Can’t daisy chain the battery?
You can to another rechargeable battery (like an Anker or whatever), or just plug the battery into a power brick to the wall
Yes you can!
I demand it in black ⚫️ color! 😳
Do you seriously think apple will do it😂😂😂
No eye tracking on the Meta Quest 3, but it definitely has decent hand tracking and controller-less navigation (despite what Dan says near the end) ... + decent pass through, similar to the Vision Pro. Vision pro undoubtedly does it all best though.
I left another comment regarding this as well. I swear that every single tech reviewer is saying the Quest doesn't have hand tracking or controls...but they do, and it's pretty good.
"I've used/own a Quest and this is so much better" statements tend to follow that, and I can't help but cringe because anyone who does actually use or set a Quest up will tell you it offers both ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Sorry but the passthrough in Q3 is not even close to how good is the VP one and that is even an understatement. I was using both to compare just ten mins ago.
@@k.vn.k Why are you even talking about passthrough when I'm talking about the hand controls? Passthrough is fine on the Quest 3 and Pro, it is slightly better and more vibrant on the AVP - but not by a landslide. Most people are not going to be wearing this device enough around people where passthrough will matter that much either. I personally only care about passthrough if I'm moving locations in my house, or want to check my phone while still in the headset
@@nightwaves_ you said “decent pass through, similar to Vision Pro” I can read that clearly. And no, not even close. You just sounds silly now. Very silly for someone who hasn’t tried it yet.
@@nightwaves_ passthrough is for AR and you know what AR is used for? Product visualization, marketing campaigns, architecture and home design, education, and industrial manufacturing, among others. Not just to check your socket lol.
The wife/kid reactions are awesome.
She had no idea I was doing this or what was happening
If it comes down in price to like £1000 I’d pull the trigger but that price dayum lol
Apple told me not compatible with M1 computer only M2 and above. Have anyone else hard the as? I see Reddit say some people are saying it works fine on M1 computers.
Should I get one
Is it worth it
If you already enjoy VR and just want a better version of existing headsets, yes. If you're expecting a unique never seen before product that creates its own category, no.
I would say I wasn't interested at first but then after watching a review last night and picking up today it does some things that other headsets can't. One being able to work on the Mac screen with a 3d movie playing while you can respond to messages, work on multiple screens, etc. It's actually quite good day 1 for productivity.
Your persona is the best Humpty Dumpty cosplay I've ever seen.
😂
Peter Griffin without glasses!
Yikes
18:37 vr face rash this is why i don't use vr hmd for extended periods of time .. this gets worse
Johnny is a revolution
Is it made in China or India? (for $10 of course)
What if they called it the iVision Pro? 🧐
Very nice 👌 but not good for long run
Dan, you can obviously tell its heavy after it left red marks on your nose lol
I think it’s more to do with being too tight than the weight.
Bingo. I had that thing strapped right. It’s the single band that will do that. Dual loop is easier on the face
Going into a virtual world where there’s nothing to do but drink too.
This will raise the game for other players expect the Quest 4 to be nearly as good
I seen a guy put it in his backpack
Must be a big backpack
Can't wait to see people driving with Vision Pro on 😀
Maybe redo your persona after brushing out your hair back to normal and before pressing the unti to your face so you do not include those lines on your face.
Maybe try holding the unit higher to change the perspective - make the lower portion of your face less thick looking.
So it in a brightly lit room with a flat background…..
