I have gone consciously "tip down" drops, dinks and speedup...and they will over time start to look alike. The speedup will be more camoflaged if you initiate the speedup with what looks like the normal tempo and them quickly accelerate once you have already started the forward motion. - that eliminates the pause. Working on the backhand version because the forehand is so good. We stopped the drill session because my partner got hit savagely several times in a few minutes...so we took a break. It does get on them very quickly.
Hey Ed, I noticed your regular dinking form (paddle tip more to the side, laid back wrist position) is very similar to mine! For cross court dinks and drops, do you cock the wrist/paddle tip more forward to help with getting the cross court angle? Or do you change body position more? With the laid back wrist position, I notice I hit my dinks more down the line even when trying to hit cross court.
I really like it. It is a bit pricy, but I use it nearly every day and it’s helped my game tremendously. 100% worth it IMO. You can probably build your own for cheaper, but I quite like the sturdiness and material of the board- it’s like a nice ping pong table material.
The dink master isn’t mounted to a wall- it’s on its own rolling stand (lockable) and it’s very sturdy. The material of it is similar to a ping pong table and has excellent ball rebound.
I was getting hit by beginners that started playing pickleball with me because of that type power is also in tennis therefore they thought every hit had to be that powerful and aggressive but I learned how to slow down their hits and drop it into the kitchen and when they try to speed up the ball it goes nigh into my strike zone
Honestly from what I saw, your normal speed up and the other one are pretty much the same in telegraphing. They are both effective shots imo, but in both scenarios you actually had wrist lag. I didn’t see a difference in the quality of telegraphing your shots. What I noticed in both shots though is when you went for a speed up, you paused abit. But this is also from the side angle so it could be different if I was infront of you

I think without a heavy top spin these kind of shots will be likely out. However, if you going for body bag it is effective.
Do you recommend the top spin at the backhand dinking?
It’s very tricky to impart top spin with 1 hand. I would use two.
I break it down a bit more in this video:

Ed - what do you think about the Dink Master _ im thinking about getting one

Hey Ed! How stable is the dink master if it is not against a wall?
Thanks!

You’re absolutely right. I would love to get to the point where it’s completely unreadable. Hopefully one day :-)
Ed, I have this shot and I can tell every time when you will speed up. You pause a little longer than your normal dink.
Good eye! Being able to read your opponents by picking up little things like that is a great skill to have.
It’s pretty disgusting though
I'm sorry. Im not sure you need safety glasses...
Eye protection is never a bad idea!
I believe they will require eye protection eventually as the game speeds up and more powerful. There has been serious eye injury’s already
