    Nice results! I find my Staccatos are ever so slightly wider than my other, similar capacity polymer/striker pistols. It wasn't as noticeable downrange when I could really dial them in w/an rds. But w/irons, my windage was always slightly off. 👍👍

    The Tisas seems like it's accurate enough. Just a suggestion but a .005" shim under the back of the Holosun should allow you to zero the sight. Other than having the slide milled to lower the front of the red dot, a shim is about the only answer if zero is to be achieved.

    This pistol really interests me. I have 2 staccatos. They are some of the most accurate pistols I have. They are also the most accurate ones I've used in 25 years of LE in stress courses.
    I recently got a tisas night stalker in 45 and it seems to be an accurate pistol as well. It seems to be better put together than my old colt gold cup.

    Another great informative video, thank you! I just got a Tisas duty .45. My intention was to use it primarily as a host for my 22 conversion for bullseye. Now that I've shot it, I'm not sure I'm going to do that, as it is such a nice 1911 for the price. It's tight, accurate, well finished, and the softest shooting 45acp 1911 I have ever fired. Thoroughly impressed.

      Thank you! I'm coming to the conclusion that the red-dot sights will never be as fast as iron sights, but for those of us with aging eyes, the trade off is we can achieve the level of accuracy we are accustomed to without the need for glasses or contacts. Regarding this specific pistol, I think I just need to spend more time with it.

    Thank you for producing another great video. If you are not use to using a red dot, there is a learning curve that one can master after firing roughly a box of ammo. That learning curve is to focus on the target while you are presenting the pistol. I found it easier to build that into muscle memory by doing dry fire drills at home by taping a paper target and then a USPSA target to a wall and running the drill for 10 to 15 minutes a day. Please let us know how it went at the LE Training course. Hope you have a great time.

    I just started watching your 507k review. In the first part of the video, watching the close up of the pistol with optic mounted, it looks like you have a canted optic cut. The top of the serations on the slide appear to come closer to the optic cut at the rear versus the front. I would see if a canted plate helps or contact Tisas. Good that it's a loner test pistol. May just be an optical illusion

    Is the optic mounted to a plate or direct mount? If it was me, I’d put a piece of aluminum foil under the plate, optic but only at the rear of it. I’d also use fingernail polish on the screws and not torque them down all the way. Snug but not enough to make it bend because of my “shim” of aluminum foil. Seeing this is going back, I’d not want to break the base of the optic by tightening it too tight. Since it’s a “temporary system", this would be a temporary fix FOR TESTING ONLY. (Don’t want to get flamed on by someone thinking I’m espousing a duty solution.)
    I don’t remember what kind of trigger this has. Long or short? Too much trigger finger or not enough?
    I know that Hickok 45 has issues with small guns and shooting left. He claims it is because of trigger finger placement. You don’t have gorilla hands like he does so, that may not be the problem for you.
    Another thing you’ve taken out of the equation is those old eyes of yours and interfacing with iron sights….😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

    Good morning HR. Vortex makes a slanted plate for coarse elevation adjustments. I don't know if it matches the Holosun footprint. The match ammo sounds like a hotter load. Where's the muzzle flash in the thumbnail?😂 Do your jacket epaulettes snag on the seat belt? I have a bush jacket that does that. Good shooting at the training class.

    • @hrfunk
      @hrfunk  5 месяцев назад

      I think any sort of plate under the optic will just exacerbate the problem. I'm planning to give SDS a call to see what they might be able t tell me.

    • @fattigla
      @fattigla 5 месяцев назад

      Yes, a canted plate would probably help. It would act like a 20 moa scope base on a rifle. You would have to count the available elevation clicks in the optic. if you have all the box stated adjustment in the optic, the optic cut in the slide may not have been milled properly, or the optic may not have been machined properly. You might be able to do some measuring with a good set of calipers, but I'm not sure. I would field strip the slide and remove the optic. Then, measure from the bottom of the slide to the optic cut where the optic sits on both the fore and aft of the optic cut, then compare. You might see variation? Seems like something is canted.

    Frankly, and not looking at other comments first, I think you're trying too hard to shoot this pistol. I'm not a good enough shot to think to hold high or left or whatever. I'm too stuck on that "center mass" that the instructor was screaming about. I developed The Glock Flinch and never overcame it, but retired and stopped carrying the issue Glock. I pick up the trusty 1911 and it's like shaking hands with an old friend. Same with a S&W K-frame. But I do enjoy watching you shoot and your methodology in diagnosing issues.

    HI, Howard... been a while.
    Just a couple of thoughts on this pistol... First, is there any way you could perhaps shim the rear of that HoloSun slightly to make up that elevation deficiency? And second, I wonder if the discomfort you are feeling (and seeming inaccuracy you are experiencing) is perhaps just the slightly odd grip shape of the 2011 style pistols on the whole? I personally have fairly small hands (I wear a size 8 glove) which is why I love the 1911 so much, but I always found when I tried out any of the 2011 guns, they just didn't FEEL right. I always felt I would rather sacrifice capacity and trust my proficiency with a 10-round 9mm 1911 (or even better, a 9-round 10mm!) than give up the precision I tend to lose when switching to the 2011 design. I have a bit of a hunch you and I may agree on this, being revolver guys as well... when the SHTF, I'd rather put a small number of rounds where I want them than spray a crapload of ammo all over the place.

    • @hrfunk
      @hrfunk  5 месяцев назад

      Hi Dale, I'm glad to hear from you. I hope all is well. Several people have mentioned that shim idea. My only concern is that the shim will raise the sight and potentially exacerbate the issue. I've got another remedy in mind, so stay tuned and I'll see if I can rectify the problem.
      Regarding the "feel" of the 2011 pistols, I think you're right. Along with the grip characteristics, I think the recoil impulse also throws me off a bit. The Tisas DS is very soft shooting for a 1911 style pistol. Normally, less recoil would be a good thing, but in this instance I believe it's throwing off the timing of my follow-up shots. I've run into this issue previously with other handguns. After years of shooting various pistols, I think I've come to expect the muzzle (and sights) to be in a certain position post-recoil. With the Carry DS, the light recoil doesn't return the muzzle to the position I'm expecting. The net result is that it throws off my timing and causes me to feel a bit discombobulated. That probably sounds odd, but I think it's true.

      It's already maxed out on elevation and still hitting about 2 inches low at 15 yards.

    Do you need an optic plate?

      No, optics with the RMSC footprint are a direct mount to the slide.

    FOR ME..... I don't even own a 9mm handgun at this point.... have about everything else LOL.... But again... for me? 9mm has never been a stellar performer accuracy wise.... For me... commander length 1911's have never shot well. For me.... optics don't work. I can't even find the dot in the dozen or so I have tried. for me.... those glow plug sights are useless.....Full size 1911 in 45 acp in the Government style and even an arched mainspring housing... but I can live without the last. My cast and coated (HT) 200 grain SWC of the old long nose version at about 1000 fps will give me honest 1-2" groups from a rest at 25 yards. This is my standard for semi autos.
