Hydraulic press build - FORGING PRESS

This video is the conclusion to the build of a 25 ton Hydraulic Forging press.
I designed the press so that I could work from the front or through the side of the frame.
The steel for the build came from machine frames that would have been scrapped. Hydraulic tank capacity is 25 gallons - I have 18 gallons of hyd. fluid in the tank.
I'm repurposing a 5hp-3ph-1750rpm motor - Single stage gear pump - .36cuin. - 3gpm to 5.3 gpm- I'm running the pump at 2800 rpms.
Purchased parts:
Hydraulic hoses, fittings, spool valve and gauge.
ISO-46 hyd. oil - 18 gallons
VFD- single ph input to 3ph output
5" x 12" hydraulic cylinder- 2.5" rod.

Awesome job... very well thought out and very nice design! If you don't mind me asking... what size of drive are you using and I'm assuming you have the 3ph motor wired for 220v?

Thank You very much! VFD is a 7.5kw, wired for 220v single ph input- 220v 3 phase output.

It seems like you need a higher gpm hydraulic pump. Your cylinder is just a little slow. Then again I cant really tell for sure just from the video.

Awesome! You know what you do. I like the way you do the dies, this is a good idea. It's fine for Paralell pressing with a spacer. With a glance on our youth, i recognize a lack of interest on to the craftmanship. What you thinking about america, due to the Craftmanship.

May I ask why you chose to rather raise the table instead of having the ram and die come down onto a static table?

I chose this design for a couple of reasons, low and compact in size , shorter hose lengths for the hydraulics.

I'm a bit of a novice, so not sure from the listed specs, but is the pump a two-stage (two speed) pump then? I wonder if a single-stage gear pump will work well with a forge press or is it advised to have a two-stage pump? I'd like to build something similar.

A 2 stage pumps at a higher flow rate until it hits the resistance and then goes to a lower flow rate. The only difference is on a two stage the ram will move faster when not under a load.
