Can I pick just one favorite? No, no I cannot. Here's a few: Favorite non fiction: Know My Name by Chanel Miller. This book changed me fundamentally as a human being. As a survivor of SA who works with child survivors of SA, this meant more to me than I can even put into words. This book gave me renewed vision for my work and for my personal healing. Chanel calls out the cruelties of the legal system while still emphasizing the importance of individual kindnesses from professionals and friends and family. Truly, this book made me a better person and helped me let go of so much pain that I couldn't put into words but Chanel could. Favorite middle grade: The Last Mapmaker by Christina Henry. Such an enchanting read, really gave me the same feelings from when I first fell in love with reading (and who doesn't want that). I was almost mad at myself for reading this all in one sitting because it was just so charming and adventurous and full of heart. Favorite thriller: The Last Thing He Told Me by Laura Dave. A mystery thriller where a parent-child relationship is front and center and remains the priority for the entire book. I love to see it. If any book in this genre would earn a "chef's kiss" from me, it's this little nugget. I can't emphasize enough that if you are tired of thrillers no character development or emotional depth, this one is for you. Favorite historical fiction: I Must Betray You by Ruta Sepetys. Such an interesting slice of history to inspect through this story. I've never really heard of any other fiction books focusing on the Red Scare from the side of those under Soviet occupation. This book is heartbreaking and eye opening. Stories build empathy and this story gave me new considerations looking back through history at "the bad guys" (according to my US public school education), which is a journey I'm constantly on. Favorite lit fic: Beartown by Fredrik Backman. This little motherf***er. My heart is just torn to shreds by every book. This was again very impactful for me as a SA survivor/advocate in evaluating how communities react to disclosures of SA. The best way I can describe this book is "absolutely human". Raw, infuriating, uplifting, soul shattering and life changing.
I read Anne of Green Gable back in 2016 I think and absolutely loved it. But I never gave the sequels a chance. But hearing that you also gave the next 2 books 5 stars makes me wanna check them out. Thanks for the video!
Yes I've loved all the books! There were two I gave 4 stars but they still were sweet reads and I look forward to reading the last two books this year!
Half a soul was one of my favorite books this year too!! It was so good! Very unexpected too, I usually read darker fantasy books but I’ve been loving the cozy fantasy trend! ❤❤
Picking a favourite is hard this year because I've read all of RF Kuang's books this year and started reading Brandon Sanderson. It's been a good reading year for me😂
@@sarawithoutanH You should be. 95 books in a year while working and maintaining a life in this modern world is very difficult. Always look forward to your recommendations.
💃🏻 My favorites this year were The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson, Crying in H Mart by Michelle Zauner, and Piranesi by Susanna Clarke! I would love love love to see you read and review these 💜 Happy New Year 🎉
i read Crying in Hmart last year - i talked about it in depth in my Koreadathon vlog if you wanna go back and watch that! I'm a little nervous to read Piranesi but I have a vague vlog idea for it
Thank you for making these videos :) you have such great energy. I put on your videos whenever I get anxious throughout the day. I’m so glad I found your channel, I hope you are doing well
I'm definitely interested in Half a Soul! My favorite books of 2022 were She Who Became the Sun by Shelley Parker-Chan (adult fantasy), Peter Darling by Austin Chant (adult Peter Pan trans retelling), The Duchess War by Courtney Milan (historic romance), and A Lady for a Duke by Alexis Hall (historic romance)
This video was iconic. I read the christmas wish based on your recommendation and it was so good! Though, I think my favourite favourite is either the last housewife or portrait of a thief.
My favorite read this year was Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir! Super cool worldbuilding, plot that kept me on the edge of my seat, and I loved the characters
💃🏾 Thank you for your selection. I want to read Half a Soul really badly but my copy hasn’t arrived yet. And I added almost half of your list to my TBR 😅 My favourite book was Heartstopper Vol. 3 (but obviously book 3 in a series 😅) Amari and the Great Game (but another sequel) 😂 Well it seems my favourite standalone was a play, Reasons You Should(n‘t) Love Me by Amy Trigg. 😊
Some favourites are Violeta, The Maid, Nevermoor and sequels, Lady Sunshine, Friends Like These, The Flanders Panel, 56 Days, The Confession, In My Dreams I Hold A Knife, Daisy Darker, Carrie Soto Is Back and Wrong Place Wrong Time
Omg I LOVED the patient, I read it a few years ago as an eARC & it gave me the creeps for dayssss after I finished it 😂 Girl NOOOOO I thought we'd be SJM haters together forever 😭 Pachinko isn't my type of book at all but you raved about it so highly I *have* to give it a go. Ahhh I read Persuasion this year as well & loved it! P+P will always be my fave tho 🙊
Blame the vlog that made me read Crescent City!! It's high key kinda good 😭✋🏻 but I will not be partaking in the rest of her backlist. Please read Pachinko! It's so special
Omg, Half a Soul was my #1 of the year. I loved it so so much. I expected to like it but I didn't expect for it to be so emotional and relatable. Dora and Elias make my heart swell, I LOVE THEM! SO ICONIC! 💚 My #2 was The Witch's Heart by Genevieve Gornichec 💙 I feel like you would really like the Wraith King series by Grace Draven. Book 1 is called Radiance and I would say it's a fairly low stakes story but the series progresses into a deeper and darker plot, which I think is good for someone who doesn't read a lot of adult fantasy. The plot is really interesting and the characters are so, so amazing. Book 1 was my fave then book 3 ended up beating it out a little bit for me and was def in my top 10 🖤 💃💃💃
Radiance was actually on my 2020 favorites list! I read Radiance and also Entreat Me that year and loved them. I haven't read another Grace Draven book since then but I really should! I still need to read the sequels in the Wraith King series.
💃 I loved this video. I can't decide if my favorite book that I read last year was Pretty Dead Queens by Alexa Donne or The Naturalist by Andrew Mayne. They were both very fun.
It's hard to say an exact number one but, not including books that are a part of series, my favorite book that I read in 2022 was probably Nightbitch by Rachel Yoder 💃🏼
i recently read acotar and book2 and yesterday night i finished book3 and omfg i loved it!! book 3 definitly ended in a good way that seems like feyre story is over ig i think book4 is a novella and book5 is nesta spin off so im guessin a new story.. book 6 and 7 we dont even know whats the release date so i think im not gonna read book 4 and 5 so soon. even tho i want to but at same time book3 ended so well i dont want bad stuff to start happenin again xD next im gonna read chain of iron. i read tog series too long time ago and loved it too. i dont think ill read cc tho
I’m hoping to read pachinko and theft of swords soon. I got the physical book for TOS from my library but im kinda scared to read all that with my eyes but I didn’t love that narrator
You have to look into the dramatized version of Theft of Swords!! It's so good. It's available on scribd - it's done by Graphic Audio. Full cast of narrators and music and sound effects! Truly feels like listening to a movie
