I have gotten a new past time activity. In the evening, after the kids are tucked in, I'll maybe pour a glass of red, put on my headphones, and then watch musicians react to Dirty Loops songs, and then (more or less) watch them have an existential crisis and doubt most of their lifes choices... Thanks for the video...
Mate. This showcases Dirty Loops for their ability to hit you in the feels. They’re obviously known for their technical ability, yet songs like this show the other side where they can reach into the deepest parts of you and make you… cry 👌🏼 Or, if not that, then feel something raw and visceral! 💖 I love ‘em haha!
Thanks for another great reaction. I've loved this song from the beginning and yet it continues to grow on me. The drum fills are so delicious and that outro does me in every time. And yes, one of the reasons Henrik and Aron are so tight are their ridiculous practice routines during college. They used to practice together for 5-6 hours a night, 5-6 days a week, for about two years. Which, together with all the work they've done together (both with DL and as session musicians), should mean they've literally played thousands of hours together by now, in their mid thirties. Crazy. The lyrics, heartfelt as they are, are still a bit of an afterthought with them though. Amazing how they can write lyrics that are such a punch to the gut, when this is how they work. Henrik said this about the lyrics on the Phoenix EP (Breakdown, Next To You, Rock You, Work Shit Out, World on Fire), in an interview in Bass Magazine: Q: "Who wrote the lyrics?" Henrik: "Unfortunately, I did [laughs]. We’ve worked with some great lyricists, including our manager, Andreas Carlsson, on Loopified, and we’ll continue to collaborate with lyricists in the future. But this time around it was more about the sound of the lyrics than the context. For some of the songs, Aron sang nonsense English lyrics on his demos, and when he sent them to me to finish he said he wanted all the vowels to remain the same as in his nonsense lyrics, so that limited me. It’s more about the phoenetics than the meaning of the lyrics on these songs." These dudes!!! 🤯
Great comment, as always, Lotta. Yep, it’s incredible, the level they work on, even re those lyrics… And Jonah always manages to inject maximum impact, meaning and soul into any of their lyrics -all three of them really do…!
Lovely reaction as usual. Your facial expressions tell the story even without a word, lol. It's sort of astounding how "easily" they shred one's soul ever so gently with this one. With precision, elegance, & eloquence. I've been hanging on Jonah's stratospheric note of angst since he released it into the cosmos!
This is their most underrated song in my opinion. It doesn't get reacted to enough. This is the most slinky, smoky, sultry , sexy track they've ever recorded. It's so mature, the arrangement is off the charts, the crazy subdivisions on the drums and bass during their fills, the vocal gymnastics, the modulation near the end and the addition of real horns. Are you freakin' kidding me? There's nothing not to like in this track.
Okay okay! This right here! 👏👏👏❤ I feel like........🤔 I just feel.....you know what I mean? They are the group you listen to on long car rides, plane rides, train rides. Just all the rides! 😂❤❤❤
I’m loving the fact that I’m being reintroduced to genius bad arse groups like Dirty Loops through your channel. I’m honestly blown away every time I hear one of their songs. 🤯 What really annoys me was the fact that they were the support act at a Maroon 5 concert I went to, back in 2015 and I can’t for the life of me remember them. 🤦🏼♀️ Hopefully they come back to Australia soon. I will definitely pay attention this time!
There, I’ve subbed! ☺️ Best ever reaction, from the bottom of your heart… loved ALL of your comments and insights into this song, especially the bits about how hard it is to pull off a song at this slow tempo. Yes I guess, totally! And not only have they written this beautifully, played it to perfection, -but let’s also spare a thought for the awesome quality of the recording, mixing and mastering here! The space and quality of sound in there…. Yes, Aron’s super tasty drumming, Henrik’s drop-dead gorgeous sound and pocket, and Jonah’s riff at the end, omg ! He’s bout to break down, and we all are, listening to this…it always catapults me into a different universe. Thanks for doing this reaction to this epic tune, Charlie, - my word, it’s soo good listening to this with you 🙏
“Is there anything Henrik can’t do?” Not likely. He’s a wizard. He gave the song the soul I love, as he does with all of their songs. It’s why he’s my favorite. Your face after that bass fill was awesome. I also think Aron is in the same boat with regard to what he can do. I’d actually like to hear the instrumental of this one.
Would love to see your reactions to Dirty Loops' covers of Forever Young and Wake Me Up. They are also on the slower/emotional side, and oh so brilliant! I mean, the tempo of those covers isn't exactly slow, but yeah.
I’m with you in this! I’ve been a frustrated wood chopper for almost 60 years… after watching Aaron the first time, I was ready to give it up and just sit back and listen to him play. That was 2 years, and everything in their catalog, ago. All the years sitting at the kit, and I have 1/100th the talent of these guys. Almost makes a guy want to quit. But I have a disagreeable neighbor, and I still like “setting him off” with my pounding on the pads. So, I guess I’ll just keep going. lol
Don't you DARE stop chopping your wood! You have something to bring, and I'll bet it's more than setting off your neighbor. I'll just ask... When you're playing, what happens inside of you? I'm betting it's good stuff.
Interesting reaction! Thanks! 🙂 This song always touch my soul. One of my favourites. Although the lyrics are sad I find the warm sound of it soothing. And yes, there really is a lot going on even in this more laid back song!
Perfect breakdown of Breakdown! Thank you, Charlie. "The amount of musicality injected..." is such a great way of putting it. Have a great week! Greets from Sweden/Gitte
Never say never… Another brilliant reaction Charlie! My Dirty Loops fan status is pending… I’m almost there 😅; but they are undeniably talented and a pleasure to watch regardless!
I saw an interview in which Jonah said that while in school he hadn't really started singing yet, just playing keys, but Aron and Henrik were "Rock Stars" 😅
Great reaction...less is more! Complex and interesting indeed. Do yourself a favor...check out their video of Over the Horizon they created for Samsung's ring tone. Trust me!!!
Love Dirty Loops! An incredible group. If you haven’t already found them, could I recommend checking out Lawrence and Don’t Lose Sight (acoustic) particularly? I think you’d enjoy it Charlie!
I left you that comment about how they used to practice in school together, Charlie. I found these guys here on YT in like 07 or 08. Been obsessed ever since. Saw them live in Seattle and they are amazingly BETTER live! I love the spirit you bring to your reviews. I feel positive that if we could hang-out together, we'd get on famously because we share the same passion for music. LOVE your channel. Cheers!
Ahh amazing. Thanks for that comment Mark. I appreciate your kind words too. I'm sure we'd get on too. It's hard to not get on with people who have that connection to and deep love for music
I keep wondering if this is their best track.. but then there are so many.. I love they are all inwardly focused instead of monitoring and smiling at each other. Have a nice day :-)
The quality of your comments and the sincerity of your reactions are such a joy. I've danced something called West Coast Swing for 25 years (total amateur) and the slowest songs have always been the hardest to work with. That said I'm always stunned by how much creativity, musicality and emotion the pros can infuse a slow song with. I sense that same insane ability every time I hear this song in particular. Nothing is frantic, forced or injected just to show off. Everything that could and should be there is and so we end up with a gorgeous musical construct like this ballad. Plus kudos to Jonah for putting so much emotion into his vocals.
WOW, there musicality is amazing!!! Their performances are sheer genius and totally magnificent. WOW WOW WOW! They should be playing and producing musical scores for movies.
You should check out some of Jonahs solo work like "Now or never" or Arons latest work with Arvid on the channel Arvid & Aron - music ready for the big screen...
I feel for you and feel the same. They are always having fun too, on top of everything else. But you've nailed their unique attribute, which is combining extreme musicality with taste, without ever losing way or even showing off, into a song that some ears might just assume was pop and others will realise the joy of their creations.
it's interesting. I'll never be that good, but I'm so far away it's just a joy to get to witness DL. It's like...I played a bit of football in my time, but I'll never be Messi-good, so to witness Messi is a joy. But how good would I need to be before it starts to pain me to watch him. I think I'd need to be pretty damn good, within touching distance or just out of reach to be pained by not getting there. And thus the question looms, Charlie, does it pain you because you are, in fact, pretty damn good? 😀
Charlie, you are never behind! I love DL, and sometimes band come by, that's change everything. But by showingyour true admiration and love for music, your in a way already on DLs shoulder! (Wayne Shorter) When your time come, and the gates of love and music opens, and the music come to you, your Lowe will heal and lighten even harder then DL. ❤
They need to put a damn warning label on this song. If you've ever been through some sh*t and you have never properly emotionally dealt with it, don't watch this video without tying a rope around your ankle first so someone can rescue you from the abyss. This is not only a musical masterpiece, but a visual one as well. There sits Jonah. The mix of Michael, Stevie, Justin and so many others, a true master - but he's broken. Conservative shirt, few days beard growth, looking up at the camera, sometimes refusing to look up, he tells a story of a tourtured soul that has lost everything. This mix of genius audio and video is not only damn good, it's unfair. I mean that. Put a damn warning label on this stuff!
Hi there. Yes I have reacted to Jacob before. He's my favourite artist. I haven't reacted to Moon River but I've seen it many many times. Im also very familiar with Snarky Puppy and have seen/heard lingus before 😁

Best comments as usual. I think we make a great team. I do the request and you do the commenting 😊

Haha LB Mama, one fantastic comment! 😂
But yeah, I’m with you there….
They make me want to practice harder and quit at the same time. That enthusiasm and frustration walk hand in hand....it´s crazy.
Yup...! My exact reaction too...
Bloody hell😱😵

Agreed! And new stuff is coming this year! 🥳
Charlie, absolutely love your reactions to Dirty Loops - Proud Swede!
Next level. A lovely musical landscape, achingly beautiful lyrics, and the Dirty Loops off the charts instrumentation. Per-fec-tion.
And you are the nicest funniest most sincere guy on the net!
Okay okay! This right here! 👏👏👏❤ I feel like........🤔 I just feel.....you know what I mean? They are the group you listen to on long car rides, plane rides, train rides. Just all the rides! 😂❤❤❤

Very moving to see Jonah having so much trouble singing this live. Comes from the heart, this one.
Watching your comments is pure delight, Charlie. Love it - and Dirty loops. Even though I want to burn my bass after hearing, Henrik…
Charlie as you notice, every single Dirty loops song is a whole experience, hope you keep reacting to more, I enjoy your reactions a lot.
There, I’ve subbed! ☺️

"They're too good, I don't like it." That's gonna make me smile like an idiot for the rest of this day.
😂

I love the fact you broke this down.
agree with Henrik description, he´s out of this world, I suggest the song World on fire... henrik in all his glory.

😂This is by far the best motivation of musician story I've heard lately.
Go Gary! 😅👍

Never been a pop consumer really but this is genius
Wonderful reaction ❤️

Pardon my asking… Have you reaction’d to Jacob Collier?
If not, I recommend “Moon River”

Hi there. Yes I have reacted to Jacob before. He's my favourite artist. I haven't reacted to Moon River but I've seen it many many times. Im also very familiar with Snarky Puppy and have seen/heard lingus before 😁

Love Dirty Loops.....NOT a fan of the singing.
That doesn't make sense, the singing is such vital part of what DL is.
