I’ve been waiting with baited breath for Part 2. I actually used to live in Caernarfon in a flat over looking the castle. There was an ad hoc opening into the Segontium roman fort via the council estate at the back - the one which you mentioned. I used to love visiting the roman fort at night when there was no else one around. I distinctly remember sitting inside the strongroom imagining what sort of wealth would have been stored inside it. Back then the children from the council estate were always playing football inside the fort grounds! I actually attended an archaeology course at the fort’s museum. I was living in in the mountains at the time and used to catch a bus some 3 hours before the course started. I remember the curator letting me come inside when it was raining cats and dogs. He asked me where I lived and when I told him. He then asked me if I knew the local farmer. It turned out he went to school with the local farmer who I knew well. After that he used to let me come inside the museum early instead of waiting outside. He even let me see the boxes and boxes of finds which weren’t on display. Thank you reactivating such found memories! PS I had trouble finding Tomen-y-Mur fort when I visited there too!
That place looks remarkable, and I didn’t realize that there was such a strong Roman presence in that area. I love a rugged jagged, craggy landscape, the beauty is poetry to my eyes.
I do love your Roman journeys. Thanks for sharing your passion! Beautiful and informative. Top drawer stuff, ladies. I hope you'll take us to Hadrian's Wall soon!
Thanks ladies very educational, covered a lot of north h wales but never covered the Roman section, lovely scenery, very tranquil, look forward to the next vid and great newsletter
Thank you for sharing your journeys. I’ve been enjoying them from Northern California. I still smile at the thought of the Roman ruins in the basement of the hair salon in London. The Welsh landscapes are so rugged and beautiful.
You know what, I've been very privileged to have visited some very spectacular locations. And there's always a homely, welcoming feel to Wales. In the Philippines there was a warmth that relaxes the hardest of hearts, where above all, the people there go out of their way to make sure you feel loved. Well that was in Mindanau away from touristy areas. Then in places such as Germany, France, Spain, we get pretty much what we expect. Then over the Atlantic, I was in flat plains of prairies, and up in the Rockies of Canada. But it's Wales, with the beauty of not only it's cozy rich green valleys, and softly blanketed mountains, that hold no threat, in their majesty. Whereas in the Canadian Rockies, we fell as though we shouldn't be there, as though we are some how a pollutant dirtying the the granite perfection of God's own back yard. And no, I'm not Welsh. Just me reflecting on times lived before. Thank you for this brief tour. As Mr. Spock would say "fascinating". But that just doesn't cover it. This had been a real joy to watch, show the research and time put into what is produced here. As for recommending other roman sites, well, where do we begins. A vast amount of our landscape was utilized and or occupied by Rome, I couldn't begin to pick one out. I think really it's down to how much time and resources are available. Travelling the length of England and Wales, would be expensive and time consuming for sure, but just to follow a main Roman rod from end to end would be a great journey, with detecting stops here and there throwing added interest to the history, would be something else. But as said time and money won't come out of thin air. Any way, keep it up ladies, you have a growing following, so you're doing something right Take care now. TTFN
Thanks Graham! We agree there really is something special about the North Wales landscape! It’s spectacular 🙌 There’s just so many Roman Sites to see where do we start! Travelling the length of a Roman Road would be truly incredible what a life journey that would be, certainly a journey to add to the bucket list! Maybe in a few videos time 😉🤣
Hi 👋🏻 Lucy and Ally, so happy to see another wonderful video! The beginning of this video was so majestic and so clear. Actually, all the video was! I was shocked at how much walking you had to do up hill. I think I would have fainted getting up there 😬 you two are still young keep on going. My legs were shaking and hurting watching you 😂😂😂😂 I think 🧐 I would’ve took my detector up to the mountain to get in a few digs 😂😂 I would have to driving all that way until someone said no detectors please and thank you. Great trip for you both! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💜
Thank you so much! Fab tour, loved the landscape and the history. May I just say I am really touched by your pride in all of the history you cover? Something that's missing here in Oz, but there's always hope! Thanks again ☺
Thank you Jayne! The history always astounds us when we do these tours you just don’t realise the most amazing history and sites can be sitting right on your back door sometimes! 🙌❤️
We've visited all of these sites, and Tomen y Mur was always one of our favorites. We ran into someone from CADW who told us that there had been a dispute between them and the farmer who owns the site. Large mounds of dirt were dumped in the parking area right by the site, and all the interpretive signs were cut down. If you're interested, I have pictures of many of those signs. Thanks for these two videos. They were quite fun. :)
It’s such a brilliant site!! Thank you for the low down! We new something must have happened and it’s a shame about the parking! 👀 Thank you for watching! 😊
Please do more of these roman videos. Would love to see Caerleon in Wales, Hardknott Fort, chester roman fort on hadrians wall. We loved all three of these sites and would love to learn more about them from you guys.
I've only recently discovered this channel (thanks to Sifinds) and you seem like a very passionate pair! I'm in Wirral, so not far from North Wales and I've always heard Holyhead pronounced as "Holly-head" but I did think the spelling resembled "holy" more. I'm a regular in the comments of other channels, but I mainly collect (believe it or not) old electrical/telegraph insulators and old bottles etc. It's brilliant to see these ancient ruins that I never knew about! Also, funny you should visit snowdonia, as that was an area with some of the earlier power lines we've hunted that were erected around 1907 I think...
Welcome to the channel Richard glad you could join us over from Si! ❤️ we will have to keep an eye out for any old telegraph and bottle memorabilia on our adventures! We believe there’s some quite fascinating telegraph history on North Wales! Glad we could show you some incredible sites 🙌
I realize it's against regulation, but don't you wish you could have done a quick swing with a detector around Tomen Y Mur? What an experience! You're doing an amazing job with fascinating content and stunning videography. 🙂 💛
🙈👀 it would have been incredible to have been involved in an archaeological dig on Tomen y Mur that’s for sure! 🤣 thank you for your kind words as always ❤️❤️
Congratulations on your 2K ladies 🎉 ❤
Thanks Jamie!! Celebrating tomorrow with a dig!! 🙌❤️

Pop down to mid wales and go and see llanio fort
Will add it to the list!! We definitely want to see more of Wales 🙌
Holyhead is pronounced in wales as Hollyhead.
Give her a break its not her fault she's English.

We’ve got a new Roman tour scheduled for filming at the end of the month!! Stay tuned 🙌🤎
Brilliant thank you. Suggestion for your Welsh next tour, Bala area
So many places to visit in Wales! I’m thinking a mega summer road trip! 🙌😂🤎
Based near Tomen near Trawsfynydd. There were sign boards last time I was up there, and a small car park. It is bleak much of the year though.
