    Even though I only got like 40% of it, this was a really entertaining press conference. They’re actually go back and forth and sort of debating the lines.
    I love the “ahhhs” from Hikaru when something clicks for him and the “then okays” from Nepo when he gets something.

      Nepo is so eloquent, he is nearly equally expressive as nakamura. SO there is a draw in the press conference as well

      Because Nepo thinks he knows more than he does and Hikaru understands the game much better so he doesn't argue with him.

      Based on the engine eval here I'd say Hikaru is more correct than Nepo on this position. Hikaru's idea to trade rooks and put the queen on d4 isn't best and still leads to a completely equal position. Black has better options that lead to a nearly winning position, so Hikaru's intuition that the two pawns are more valuable than white's activity seems to be correct. There's definitely no threat of getting mated anytime soon.

    If there's one good think for Naka about Gukesh winning today is that tomorrow he doesn't need to watch any other game now, he HAS to go for the win and that's it.

      Hikaru was in a must win situation whether or not Gukesh won. He can't gamble on Nepo and Caruana tying their games just to get into a four way tie break. I think Gugesh winning changes basically nothing for him.

      One good question would have been if Hikaru confused his preparation and if Nepo and Hikaru were aware of the chances at that point.

    I want to see the both of them in the tie breaks. They both need to win there games tomorrow at all costs because of Gukeshes' win. Hikaru does have white and Ian has black so I dont know what the odds are but it will be very interesting no mater how is shakes out tomorrow.

    Hilarious. Nepo talks so much, it would annoy a lot of people talking like he knows everything, but when you have Naka there you are asking for an argument. I remember watching them play even 7 years ago and you could see they ground each others gears. 😆

    Am I stupid or is the strategy for Nepo/Fabi/Hikaru is to play for a win (or lose trying) and Gukesh just needs to not lose. Further, if the Fabi/Nepo game is decisive, then there would have to be a tiebreak unless Gukesh wins his game.

      As we all know, women have their own category in chess - a completely non-physical game - since, as we all know, they would get destroyed playing against men.
