@@bartotte3578 I mean, my family usually uses an actual camera with an actual 3-point stand at home for special occasions. Proper quality photography. This system does solve a problem but its the perfect example of a first world problem. But even if you were somewhere outside of home, it's pretty weird. If you're on a road trip, going camping or at a party, why would you want to put the phone somewhere on a rock or table and make it look like a staged college photo or weird professional family picture? I'm a happy owner of a Zenfone 6 and I can tell you this thing does everything good. It may not be top 1 in many aspects, but it's strong in everyone of them. I've had it for a year and a half now and it's performing as day 1, including battery and camera. The battery still lasts a whole day eaaasy, 2 whole days without intensive use. The only thing I'm disappointed on version 7 is the lack of headphone jack.
@@allanperez8743 the 6 is the best phone I've ever had. Coming from Samsung Galaxy S8 . Price performance dual sim, headphone jack battery. Very disspointed in Zenfone 7. Not biiger battery why? Why remove headphone jack?
The lack of the jack is the only reason I won't upgrade my zenfone 6 to this. I'll be dead before I subject myself to the dongle lifestyle and I have spent hundreds on great wired headphones which can not be replace by anything wireless on the market in quality.
Yeah, I've wondered for a long time, why there are no chargers that let you select the charge speed you want to use, but if you could just programm your phone to automatically use the charge settings you like, that would be even better
@E G personally i'm hesitating between making an electronic module which cuts the power from a charger when current goes down, and rooting my phone so i can limit this @/×%¥^₩# charge... PLEASE SAMSUNG PUT AN UPDATE THAT'S EASYYYYYYY (you don't even gain money from battery replacement... right?)
I love my Asus Zenfone 5z so much. When it came out I was criticize a lot by my peers for not getting OnePlus 6t but I trusted my decision. And now, after using it for almost 2 years, I can say that I was absolutely right. Asus is really innovating and giving extraordinary functionalities. And I am pretty sure that I am going to switch my this Asus Zenfone with another Asus Zenfone.
I'm also using a Asus zenphone 5z but I do with I got a android 10 update I also use a Huawei p smart 2019 as my main but I keep the Asus for its great camara and reliability as it will always work Evan with a few drops it's never cracked
6:16 That feature could be used for taking auto-pano shoot, timelapse without tripod, or use it for stalking people just like a normal person would do.
6:26 DSLR has flip screen, Asus has flip camera. You can take some interesting composition using this based on how low you can go with this. Also taking a picture even when the phones back is not facing the subject is a neat feature.
That movable camera actually makes sense to me. I work in industrial manufacturing and sometimes I have to take a picture of a part numbers on motors and sensors that are hard to get to with a normal phone. This I could pivot into position and get a better shot.
Now I actually really like the inclusion of that "kill switch" on the case. I often have the problem that my OnePlus 7 pros camera extends when it's in my pocket and I'm kinda scared that it breaks of if I sit down. Oh and that slow moving camera is for panoramas, so you don't need a steady hand.
6:16 Honestly, if you have your phone in a stand and still want to record, it would work. Also niche but important case: on a bicycle using phone for GPS and camera as a dash cam.
This review is spot-on. I have a Zenfone 6, and while it's not a world-beater in any one regard, it's just so incredibly well-rounded that it's tough to beat, or justify replacing. Solid camera? Great Battery life? Nice screen? Solid speakers? Check, check, check, and check. It looks like the Zenfone 7 takes this formula and ups the overall game which makes it a very compelling package.
I also think that is really not that much of an issue. However, tbf, I went skiing with my ZenFone 6 once and.... Well the camera flipped open a bit (saw it at the end of the day). But... Why would it matter? Force-opening the camera does not hurt the phone and usually it does not happen at all.
Motorola phones use gesture controls as shortcuts for common functions, such as shaking the phone twice to the side to turn on the flashlight. It's very useful when you're wearing gloves or your hands are dirty or wet and you don't want to get it dirty, too.
Neither of your ideas, it's just being physically blocked, once it stresses the motor spinning it enough, it stops. And ofc that little tab immediately stops ot
Type c is the future. My sennheisers use type c to type c for audio which is better in every way. My ROG Phone 3 came with a type c to 3.5 adapter as well as a 3.5 on the aero cooler in case your equipment is behind the times. 3.5 is on the brink of obsolete.

I really wanted to upgrade to the Zenfone 6 but i couldn’t justify the upgrade for myself, but the Zenfone 7 seems like something I really want to get my hands on. Awesome video and amazing phone!
Unfortunately availability would be very strange, I heard Zenfone 7 is only available to Europe and Taiwan right now, no US release, not sure about rest of the world.
Been using Zenfone 3 for 4 years, i switched from Galaxy S4 and im not buying an Asus phone ever again. It lacks many QOL features that i had on my S4. Random UI freezes, weird bugs that require me to restart device. Im going to give oneplus a chance on my next device
@@Navhkrin I am still using Zenfone 3 base model right now, although my phone never had these strange hardware issue, Sausung software is vastly superior to the bare bone one with ZenUI. Zenfone 3 is very easy to tinker with though.
I loved my Zenfone 3 for its insane battery capacity, that thing easily got me through more than two full days of use without me having to stress about charging but unfortunately I dropped it in the kitchen and it has been dead ever since. :(
Seems like it could use a mechanical locking part inside the phone that's similar to the flap on the included case. Just to prevent the camera from flapping.
honestly i am confused why they didn't do that. maybe it cost too much extra. Any small pin that would move into a recess in the camera box would have made it impossible for the thing to shake at all.
demolitionGoat a small part like that would have been prone to break and even worse could even obstruct the mechanism or in best case scenario leave a permanent noise when shaking the phone so I suppose for the sake (no pun intended) of durability they discard that option
@@Pro720HyperMaster720 I am pretty sure it's not the durability that's the issue. a small pin made of a magnet that sits in a recess with a spool behind it is all it would take to create a pin lock on that. That is 100% waterproof and has basically no chance of moving out of place or even just rattling if its machined well enough. It's gonna cost a pretty penny to create the flush fit recess in the phone shell and the spool though on top of taking up valuable space in the phone.
It becomes another moving part to fail. Much better to toss that bad boi in a case so that it's replaceable and doesn't risk becoming a loose part inside the phone
I still have the 5z, it is amazing still. I have to give them props, they are better in my opinion than most if not all other companies. Ive owned a ton of phones that only lasted a little longer than a year without damage on most of them.

11:56 'can't find an obvious flaw' ? Here some: 1. No 3.5mm jack! 2. No FM Radio! 3. Non-removable battery! 4. USB-C audio interface required adapter with active DAC IC! Alas, it is not available here yet! Any info on this?
Point 3 happens with basically every phone in the market for about 10 years. So that being inserted as a flaw, nowadays, it's completely invalid, since it's a norm (mostly that most of the phones are also IP certified.)
As for point one, is valid, although it can be circumvented with buying Bluetooth headphones, they are not too expensive nowadays and so with that, point 4 also becomes taken cared off, the adapter usb-c to jack already comes included in the package. So the true flaw is the lack of FM radio...... although, there apps on Google store for that....soooo...yeah...no obvious flaw in the product.
No because as you saw in the video it automatically goes back to flip down or flip up position if you try moving it from that position. So if you tried setting it in a position and it moves around, it is going to try adjusting.
@@MinecraftLD10 but you can set it up at any angle using the volume rocker and it seemed to stay in those positions. so it is capable of standing in more than the two positions "selfi" and "normal".
Monking Flame Well I guess the test we didn’t get is it being set camera side down while it’s facing top side down so that it props up the phone. Then that would tell if it could handle the weight or not.

Xiaomi Redmi K30 Pro, should be ~$450. Pop up selfie camera, SD865 and all that jazz, and their last year's Mi 9T should be closer to $300. The 9T also features a pop-up front camera, 6GB/128GB, FP scanner under the screen, 48Mpx Sony camera etc, but comes with a SD730 (there was also the Pro version, but it has been replaced by the aforementioned K30 Pro). The Mi 10T is supposed to come out this month, though, globally, at ~$299 for the base model, whatever it is. I'm not sure if it's retaining the design, but it's worth waiting for the reveal to find out if you're into notchless, holeless screens on a reasonable budget. BTW, I have the 9T and like it quite a bit. :)
Asus always makes good phones. Actually the best phones that I know of. Apple is popular but that doesn't make it a good phone cus Samsung is popular and they are stair garbage
12:43 while it's not as impressive as Apple's update lifecycle, still a major credits to ASUS. I've been having monthly security patches since I purchased the phone. They *did* promise at the event of the Zenfone 6 that they'd offer 2 years of major updates and a third year of security patches. I imagine this will be the same for the Zenfone 7
I hate it how these experts just say good things (sometimes bad) about the phones that is in front of them, but do not warn against potential issues people might face. Last model of this phone zenfone 6, used to just crash and needed a motherboard replacement. Not even a single big expert covered it. It's a shame

Honestly same here! I have a note 9 and the 20 ultra just doesn't seem as appealing. For headphone jack I never use mine since I have Bose QC35's and Bluetooth in my car, so it's just another waterproofing issue fixed if you ask me.
@Alexander Leblanc not how I meant for that to come accross. my cars a shitbox with a Bluetooth head unit and the QC35's I bought when they first came out to treat myself but those are easily 4 years old now. (Best purchase ever though!)
Asus screens and software support is horrible though. I also wanted to buy a ROG Phone 3 and this, but trust me, its bad. Just do your research. I really hope they'll improve, but for now it's pretty awful.

Those features for charge management sound awesome. I've been manually limiting (for the most part) my battery between 40% and 80%. Having that managed automatically would be nice. Not starting the day with my full 80% is sometimes annoying.
Wait really? the headphone jack is such a big sticking point? I am not attacking, just curious what you 'need' it for? Audio quality? Hate wireless? And if it's such a big point does that mean you're not even considering 90% of phones even if they're amazing?
Yeah, I normally only switch phones at 4+ years, and I got a note9 on launch, so I still have a bit to go, but I am seeing more and more manufactures make NO designs with the jack, and it annoys/worries me. I do hope at least someone has a flagship that has a jack in 2 years.
@@SCRNSH0T it's just bad design, for them to make a profit by either not neededing to spend the .005 cents on the jack or selling their Samsung pods or what not to fix the problem they created. "Make a problem sell a solution". Also, you can't charge and use the USB headphones, it's a dumb trend.
Still on a OnePlus One because phones of the last few years without a notch and include a headphone jack are very few and far between. I have multiple headphones/headsets that are 3.5mm and I don't wish to go wireless. They're so much cheaper for the same sound quality. Also like to charge and listen regularly. I actually really like the idea of the adjustable angle. Far too often I've tried to take a photo one-handed but couldn't manage it because I had to tilt the pheon so much that the phone would fall over while I try to move my thumb to the shutter button. This wouldn't have been a problem if I could angel the camera itself without the phone being so heavily angled...

@@hallolo2 I think his point is that it should last him a good while because he isn't going to use the selfie mode that often and there's no annoying notch for a feature that he doesn't really use. I can make the same argument with my OnePlus 7 Pro which has a pop-up selfie camera, I almost never use it so it'll last a while and I don't have a notch taking up part of my screen.
@@grn1 Ok, I missed that. However, I really trust Asus when it comes to durability. I have experienced many Asus devices over many years and while there was one incident, it is the manufacturer I had by far the fewest issues with. I am already really confident when it comes to the Zenfone 6's flip mechanism, I was honestly surprised that they claimed they would have made it more durable. So I think the durability is kind of a moot point. However, you never know, there can always appear surprising flaws.
Yeah Gregory got my point, I don't take many selfies so having a hole punch or a notch at the front just takes up space so the flip mechanism is best. Also I love Asus and I wasn't implying that the camera is bad or anything ,infact it has one of the best selfie cams in any phone right now

6:11 actually looks like a useful feature for looking inside a concealed space/behind something. Granted, that's a once a year problem, but since the phone can offer that feature without a down side, I don't see a problem.
As someone who owned the Razer Phone 2 for a bit, I can say that device also had a fingerprint sensor on the lock button on the side, and depending on the placement and hand size, it can be very comfortable. I personally loved it
As a Zenphone 6 owner, many of the software features outlined in this video are available to me as well, and the 5,000 mAh battery in that allows me to comfortably get away with only charging my phone every other day. The 7 seems to be an iterative improvement on the design of the 6, with a slightly better display and a better camera array and mechanism. The floppiness of the 7 is significantly less than on my 6, and the phone seems to do a better job of detecting it being out of position, as well as detecting obstructions. I would be interested to see if they've done a better job with getting the panels to meet tightly, I have a problem where pocket lint collects in the gaps between the body and the area where the camera assembly rests. I've been happy with my Zenphone 6 so far, it's a great all-arounder, and I can confirm that the camera is a fantastic party trick. For the longer term, I've heard rumours that ASUS has been helping the community develop custom images for their phones, so when software support direct from ASUS inevitably stops the community should have a decent amount of knowledge built up to fill in the gaps. For their part, updates on the 6 (and I would expect on the 7 as well) are regular, seamless, and unobtrusive, with a decent number not even requiring a restart. Major updates (I got my Zenphone 6 with Android 9, and was able to upgrade to 10) seem to happen relatively quickly, though I'll have to wait for 11 to drop to be able to speak more knowledgeably on this.
I had the Zenfone 3 Zoom with the 5000mAh battery and that got me hooked. I can't go back to a smaller battery now. Luckily a lot of phones are adopting that feature like my Redmi Note 9S.

Great Battery life? Nice screen? Solid speakers? Check, check, check, and check. It looks like the Zenfone 7 takes this formula and ups the overall game which makes it a very compelling package.
To be fair I've used cellphone for years now and I don't remember a single time where I needed to shake my phone like this 🤔😆

I also think that is really not that much of an issue. However, tbf, I went skiing with my ZenFone 6 once and.... Well the camera flipped open a bit (saw it at the end of the day). But... Why would it matter? Force-opening the camera does not hurt the phone and usually it does not happen at all.
Only thing similar is when I had to shake my phone in an 8 symbol to calibrate the gps or something like that back in the day.
Remember shake to undo, that might be coming back 😁

Just be aware that the Zenfone 7 and 7 Pro don't have a headphone jack. If that matters to you, you may wanna look elsewhere.
Seems like it could use a mechanical locking part inside the phone that's similar to the flap on the included case. Just to prevent the camera from flapping.
Could be emberrasing if it "flips in your pocket" and everyone thinks you are a perv :/
honestly i am confused why they didn't do that. maybe it cost too much extra.

This is the first Short Circuit video I've seen on the trending page on RUclips.
It's nice to see how much this one has grown. I do hope that it gets bigger.
i love the no-selfie-camera phones. I have the oneplus 7 pro and the unbroken screen is so nice - especially because I dont take selfies.
You mean an unobstructed screen? Saying "broken screen" for a notch/hole-punch display seems a little odd
@@CHRoOMAX I should have used different words. That didn't cross my mind at all and now it's really funny to me.
I was thinking about an unbroken line, or how silence can be broken by even a small sound. I totally understand what you mean though.
You don't use selfies because you're a boomer
@@pneumonoultramicroscopicsi4065 lmao look at my username and ask yourself if any boomers you know would use that
@@pneumonoultramicroscopicsi4065 You totally misunderstood what he was saying btw
if i was looking for a phone this would definitely be up there as long as its stock android and no stupid notification breaking battery optimization like oneplus has
Zenfone starting with 5 series till now are close enough to stock..like 90-95 percent
Uhh what ? I don't think my OnePlus phone does that
5z has a serious WiFi and battery issues, never addressed.
6z reoccurring battery not holding charge,
In these instances Asus has just told customer to take to dealer and both issues with both phones not resolved.

Does the screen have a curve? I like putting on a screen protector but curved screens are a pain for that.
No there isn't
"I didn't cover the zen phone 6 cause i would be bashing the people paying me"
What is wrong with it?
I tried it out for a day and it seemed really nice. The bootloader unlocking method for all their phones is garbage though (including this one) so now I can't run LineageOS or the stock ROM.
From the title, I couldn't tell if he meant literally or figuratively "shocked" him.
You never know
editor: who's that?
-understandable have a great day
i love this flip design, having your main camera as you selfie cam, that's the best thing ever !!! and the FULL SCREEN for real, not the halfass notch/hole !!!
"Can you do it Asus?"
Well our track record is bad, why not just go with that

Please could you check out how it feels after two or three updates? I love my Zenfone 6! It has many of the same specs.
I mean it's the perfect phone for me because I rarely take selfies, so not gonna flip the camera much. Also the all-screen front is pretty neat.
You're assuming it's a bad phone for selfies... Why? It's arguably the best for selfies, and that with a huge lead.
I also know many people who share this opinion and even and I quote, swear on Asus.
Also I love Asus and I wasn't implying that the camera is bad or anything ,infact it has one of the best selfie cams in any phone right now
You can say "5 Amp Hour" instead of "5 THOUSAND MILLI Amp Hour".

I still don't get why they don't tell us wh instead of mAh :D i think it's way more useful spec :p
@@oplkfdhgk In case of mobiles we know the V (3.7-4.0) and AH so we can multiply them to get WH. But having this figure on all electronic gadgets (including smartphones, Cameras, electric scooters, skateboards and bicycles, cars, etc.) would make it so much better.

6:11 actually looks like a useful feature for looking inside a concealed space/behind something. Granted, that's a once a year problem, but since the phone can offer that feature without a down side, I don't see a problem.
3:18 "Anti-selfie switch" I want the case just for that, the phone is an added bonus.
I would like it if you could put it on other peoples phones.
Good phone. Just needs to be available with more carriers.
