    Great tips. Especially love the one about putting money that we would spend on takeaways or new house items (we don't need) in saving!

    Just watched this after seeing it linked from your new channel. I’ve watched all your trips but hadn’t seen your planning videos. Some super helpful tips here, thank you. The one about questioning whether you really want/need something and then if not transferring the money to your trip fund is such a good idea, will also save me from buying things I absolutely don’t need!! Thanks

    • @LollipopBoxClub

      Hiya, Thanks so much for watching. We still do that now. If we can live without something like a take out. We transfer what we would have spent in to our trip savings account. It does add up. Thanks x

    Loved this video! Thank you for sharing. You have such a calming, wise energy.
    Two "American dining" observations (coming from a British/Kiwi ex-pat living in the States): 1) While you're right that's "not frowned upon" to share a meal, do consider tipping extra because your server will lose out if you just split one entreé (AKA main course); 2) You mentioned that a tip is "anywhere up to 20%", but it's actually considered rude to tip anything less than that. 20% should be the minimum tip unless there was a bug in your food. 😂
    Hope this helps!

      Gotta love Oswald!! That's a good idea to buy gift cards. Do you buy them online? We buy the mini ones when we are there and load them up for when we are in the parks. You know the Food & Wine ones that come on the bracelets.

    Lisa where have you been all my life? I so wish that I had seen your video whn it came out. It would have made a huge and l do mean huge difference to our recent trip to London to watch my husband run the 2019 London marathon with my three girls aged 14,12 and 9.
    Never fear, he wants to run the Berlin marathon next year. That gives us time to plan and save for all the fun bits.
    Thank you so very much for sharing Lisa. This is going to be so Life changing. I am not kidding, because as you said, you have been on holidays where cash is tight, which makes things rather stressful for everyone.
    I am now going to watch your other video about the planner.
    Thank you 💖

    Hi Lisa, my family and I are planning our first trip to Orlando! Your videos are brilliant, I have learned so much! Just wanted ask what car hire company you recommend? There are so many to choose from in the U.S. Are there lots of additional insurances to pay when you collect the vehicle? It's very confusing. Also, we are only going for 12 days. Do you think it's possible to do Disney and Universal in that time? My children are 12 and 7. Not sure if there's much to do at Universal for their age group and wondering if we should just concentrate on Disney for this trip. I would love to hear what you think? Thanks!

    • @LollipopBoxClub
      @LollipopBoxClub  5 лет назад

      Hi Emma, Thank you so much. So pleased that you are enjoying the videos. Firstly, I would highly recommend booking through Florida Discount Car Hire. We switched from booking direct through Alamo and Avis last year for the first time as the prices had risen so much. Florida Discount car have ended up saving us over £1000 and it went as smoothly as if we'd gone direct. We were still with Alamo. You can also check in online with Alamo which means you can skip the counter. This saves so much time.You simply collect you luggage, head downstairs to the car hire garage. You actually walk past all the car hire counters and past those queues feeling super smug : ) Out the door, across the zebra crossing in the heat and admire the palm trees and straight in to the garage what looks like a multi carpark. You hand your paperwork to Alamo (the online checkin gives you a barcode to print) and they show you the cars that you can pick from, give you the keys and off you go. No need to buy any extra insurance. We actually bumped our car last year and it was all covered. So easy!! With regards to Universal, we've been taking our kids since they were 5 & 7 and they've always loved it, particular, Island of Adventures. It's probably our favourite out of all the Orlando parks. Universal has become very expensive though over the years. Time wise you'd probably be fine, but it's a big expense for a couple of days. Are you planning to do any other trips whilst you are in Florida? I'm so excited for you. When are you off?

    Great and useful video. LOVE the idea of physically putting the money for an unordered takeaway or shopping item that you talk yourself out of into the savings account, I am going to start doing that one! My only other tip for Florida planning to any subscribers who haven't already is get yourself on The Dibb. I've learned so much, as Im sure you have Lisa, there really are so many money saving ideas and price watching that goes on it really can save your thousands! Looking forward to your trip and interested to see how you find the Grove Resort as we are considering a stay next year.

      @LollipopBoxClub  6 лет назад

      Hiya!! Thanks. I never thought of The Dibb. I tend to just read trip reports and dip in and out of the other threads now and then. So I guess I see it as research rather than money saving. I can see how it can help some though. I agree, that place has taught me so much over the years xx

    Fantastic ideas here! I'm trying to save for a holiday to the Maldives for Feb 2019 and I'm not doing so great. I'm going to try to have a no spend for the next few months and I may have to do some overtime as well. I'm so disorganised and careless with my money sometimes. I've got a savings account but not one exclusively for holidays. And to be fair, it's fairly easy for me to pinch money from it. I need to look into a better one. I'm going to add a budget section to my Happy Planner and maybe a holiday section as well, but I like your idea of having a separate holiday planner for each trip so I'm going to check out your other video for ideas :D

    Great video! We do quite a few of the same things as you, but I have always wanted to save air miles and didn’t know the best way. It didn’t sound like you use your air miles to pay for the flights or did I miss that bit? I had forgotten about quidco! I must look into that again. When the kids were little and they saved for spending money, I would tell them that I would match what they saved, they only got limited pocket money so I knew it wouldn’t be a huge amount, but it inspired them to save. Our trip for next year has the added joy of having to save a months salary for when we come back, so that’s a bit interesting, but we are getting there now. I must remember to buy our park tickets before they go up in price as well. I am about to start a Planner, because I keep writing things down and making plans and then I can’t remember where I put them!

    • @LollipopBoxClub
      @LollipopBoxClub  6 лет назад

      Hi Julia!! I do use the airmiles to pay for flights. Sorry I realise I didn't make that overly clear. We just pay the tax. The flights are free and we get the free upgrades. Travelling back with 8 pieces of luggage is so good : ) I need to know more about your trip this year. I know it's NYC but that's about it. When, anywhere else and are the kids coming? And yes....you need a planner : )

    Fantastic video Lisa, I’ve made a few notes. Would you be able to do a list of websites you use to check for attraction / park tickets? I’m always very wary of some websites, so a list of go to’s would be great. And maybe an eBay selling tips video if you keep a list of ideas for future videos.

    • @LollipopBoxClub
      @LollipopBoxClub  5 лет назад

      Morning Joanne. For a while now I've just booked with Attractions Limited Direct for most park tickets. I trust them and they send out quickly. But what I do always do is going online and google what I'm looking for, check out other prices to compare, always write them down as you end up getting muddled and then go back to ATD for a price match. Providing they are offering the same deal and they are ABTA approved they will do that for you. I'm putting a selling video together at the moment. I'm working on it over a few weeks as I sell things xx

    United States resident here- I always forget how many things we do here that aren't normal anywhere else. Went to Canada with my husband for a few days and even there we felt rich. And I didn't realize that places outside of America/Canada don't really do to go containers 😂
    In another country you can also fill out a form and get refunded any tax you paid while there because you're not a citizen and don't need to pay tax haha.

    There are just the two of us but I still work out how much we need per day for meals etc. I add on an extra amount for personal stuff for each of us. It goes in an envelope for each day. End of day is tally up time and any left over goes to the next day. This way we never go over the daily amount and like you always bring cash home. That goes away for the next trip. We do a lot of Europe now but when we lived in Bermuda we went to the States often so had lots of air miles which add up. We had a few trips to Hawaii free with the miles. Happy days enjoy your trips xx are you going to PlannerconEurope next year? Xx

      @@spacewatcher968 Sounds like you are doing really well. I'm glad the tips are helping. Have you heard of the 'Kids Eat Free' Cards? We used these when our's were younger. Many restaurants accept these cards. We've bought them in the past and also received them a couple of times free when theme park tickets have been purchased. A free kids meal when an adults is purchased. Definitely saved us money in the past. Another way that we find helps is by having a 'really' cheap day every now and then. Breakfast in the villa, shared lunches out and then a Dominoes or something like 'Panda Express' (Chinese) for tea. These meals generally cost is around $20 for the 4 of us and we never finish. By having a couple of days a week like this really helps the budget. Here's the link to the kids eat free so you can see what it is... www.kidseatfreecard.com/

    Great saving ideas! We always have a Florida trip every other year so as soon as we return from our holiday we book, so it gives us 18 months to pay for the holiday in monthly instalments before we go, so we just have to find the spending money. We also have a couple of jars where our pounds and coppers are saved. We have been able to pay for airport stay and parking by saving this way. Xx

      Hi Lisa, great vlog I was watching with my hubby graham and we liked the idea of money you didn’t spend on a takeaway putting it straight into your savings. He said we should do this every time I want to buy something new for our 17 month old grandson, whenever I’m out shopping I say this is nice for Evan for Florida and can’t resist but I definitely think I will give this idea ago and transfer whatever something would of cost me into our savings. I know for sure I will still buy something for Evan whilst we are all away in Florida but at least this way I will have savings towards it. Thanks for the tip, just hope I have enough will power to resist the adorable Disney Outfits I keep spotting. Karen x

The senior menu has better choices than the kids menu :) It has less food than a regular meal and is cheaper. You should give it a try ;) But otherwise, I split too when on trips because it is SO MUCH food and what the heck do you do with leftovers?
