The beautiful girl in the video is English actress, Sophie Ward. I saw her at the theatre last year, and she is still stunning and so lovely. The glamorous makeup and hair was very much the 80s style. I really love ‘Don’t Stop The Dance’ and ‘More Than This’.
The very beginning of this track is the band readying themselves to begin playing. They were accomplished musicians and this track is a testament to the music.

Greetings from UK! I loved the reaction and comments you guys made...you have a good eye sir for detail in videos. I've watched this video hundreds of times and never noticed the thing about the falcon landing blindfolded and the timing of it facing outwards in sync with Bryan! As to Bryan's voice...you guys should listen to his later songs (he did a whole album of Dylan covers) and his recent Love Letters LP (3 tracks American classic covers) Bryan's voice has changed a lot now he's older and is more of a flatter soulful crooner sound.
I love this song. Roxy Music's 'Avalon', Joe Jackson's 'Night & Day', Simple Minds' 'New Gold Dream' and Icehouse's 'Primitive Man' were five of my favourite albums of 1982. I remember my sister and I going to the cinema after a Saturday morning shift to see the Dark Crystal. The air conditioner would cool the dimlit auditorium against the summer heat outside. Roxy's 'Avalon' would quietly play on the speakers as my sister and I munched on cinema icecreams; staring at the curtains that covered the screen and trying to relax our minds from the demands of customers. That's the memory that comes back whenever I hear this song.
@jaymacgee_A_Bawbag_Blethering Gillian writes here all the time. As you say, prosaic! I get your drift, though . Something quite special could happen. I wrote two books just to see if I could do it. One a kids book, the other was darker. A publisher offered a deal on the darker book but wanted me to change the mid section to something she wanted. I said no!

The bass player in the video clip is Michael Dempsey, The Cure's original one. He didn't play on the actual recording nor on any other Roxy Music songs, though!
Great track and glad you enjoyed it. To me Avalon is a mythical land that was once to be found off the coast of Britain. Sort of like a British Arthurian Atlantis.
Roxy Music are a band of two halves, early Roxy were more experimental and later more polished and MOR, for me I like it all, but I much prefer early Roxy.
My interest in them had seriously waned by this point, though this is a killer song from the later period. Fun fact, it plays a minor part in the book of World War Z, but not the film iirc. Which is a pity, as it could have looked absolutely surreal.(don't get me started on the film)
Agreed, since Remake/Remodel, Roxy were on a downward spiral 😂 Joking aside Roxy are a bit of an enigma for me. If I had to rate their studio albums , I would pretty much put them in chronological order, not sure I could say that about any other band or artist that I enjoy. Not saying that the later albums were not good, just not as good as their predecessors. The law of diminishing marginal returns working to perfection in the music industry.
@@charlesappleby8049 I think I got off the Roxy bus at around Manifesto or Stranded, I think those were the last albums I liked as a whole. From then on it only seemed to be certain songs for me.
He would have been 74 then, and I wonder whether he really was too tired to be touring. Most people are retired by that age. Maybe he bit off more than he could chew. But he used to be an excellent live performer, just like David Bowie and Elton John.

We did, indeed. We tried blurring the video. Didn't work. We're going to try it again. I (Chris) may have messed up the blur. It was late, and I was tired, OK 😴 😜
A sound you wont hear anymore from a previous time and space when music confused the intellect taking you to a special place.
So many parts of this song are really cool. The bass line, the vocals near the end. Sublime sublety

Early Roxy is more my favourite period. However, I really enjoy 'More Than This' and 'Take A Chance With Me' from the Avalon album.
"Over you" and "Same old scene" are good tunes

A great track from another great LP by Roxy. Creativity all the way.
Video directed by Ridley Scott.

The female vocalist was a - Philippino? - singer, working on her album in the studio next door, and was asked in to bring something, she certainly did
Best track on Avalon is The Main Thing & it has an interesting video.

Try Eight miles High, from Roxy Music. Great tune. They did a lot of great tunes. More than This, is probably their most famous song.
