Later this year, when she gets below five feet and probably after the trout are done spawning, you need to take your talent to the Mississippi River. It makes the MRGO look dumb. As always, excellent video. Lots of talent. Great fishing. Thank you for uploading.
@@LAFishBlog I will! It’s my goal to branch out more this year. Probably a little more elbow room down there too lol. All of your videos on how to find fish are very helpful and I encourage everyone to go watch if they haven’t already. Thanks Devin
I appreciate your stewardship in preserving those big trout ! A lot of people don’t do that ! But it’s very good to see some people still do ! Keep doing what you doing maybe we’ll run in to one another! Tight lines !!!!!
Last trip before the front comes in , got on a good bite couple days ago, dang winds are unbelievable, twitch baits and my rope jigs have been paying off tagging a bunch for release , glad ya got on them in MRGO
Wow so many beautiful 20 plus inch hammers on that X rap ...You were on fire Great Video Thanks for the tip on how to work the jerk bait.....Looks like no one has the courtesy to slow down when they fly by while you are trying to fish....nothing like limiting out on 19-22 inch trout.....hard to catch a few to bring home when they are ALL HAMMERS
Great video, and It was you that I saw go through the wall...I should have yelled...oh well. Those were some great trout brother, I guess I will have to try the rocks next time. God bless and see you on the next one.
@@daltontribou3692 it was around 55. I’ve caught them into the 40’s. Somebody can correct me if I’m wrong, but I think it’s pretty rare for it to get too cold here.
Hey man love the content , so a 3 foot or so diving jerk bait gets down deep enough for these trout in the winter ? Trying to dial in the trout in my area, my mind tells my when I’m in 8-12 foot of water under the boat working the rocks a 3 foot diving jerk bait isn’t enough but I assume your in similar depths and your killing it🤙🏻 need to gain some confidence in them over plastics .
@@mikewolfe2876 To be honest, I’m not sure why sometimes they are shallow and sometimes not. On this trip, they definitely were. I’m sure it has more to do with where the bait fish are hanging out more than anything. On a previous trip, the water was warmer but they were deep and I caught more on a jig in 8-12ft.
Crush your barbs down on your hooks. You will notice that the trout will stay hooked up better. Problem with a jerkbait winter fishing is trout are swiping or short striking it the barbs won’t break through their lips even though they have paper mouths. It probably doesn’t make sense about crushing the barbs but from experience this has definitely helped me personally.
@@theirishone1339 I have history with that particular stretch and I hit the jackpot right off the bat. On a more typical trip, I hit random areas that have the smallest amount of boats and pay attention to the features of areas I catch fish and try to duplicate elsewhere. For example, if I notice I caught fish just before a point, I will hit several spots that have that same trait. However, I’ve fished this area long enough to know that if I caught fish like I did on this trip in that area, I would probably have caught them all up and down the rocks for miles. It was just a fantastic day and I’m sure I wasn’t the only one that smashed them.

@@Jar_Fishing WHAT WEIGHT XRAP YOU USE
@@TaylorTassin it’s a suspending lure so not measured in weight as much as length. On this particular trip, I used the 3” version. Model number sxr08.

Great stuff as always. Happen to remember the water temp. And how cold do you find it can get for it to still be successful out there?

There’s pro level dead sticking but that may have been Olympic level…😂
@@davidyoung353 lol. I had to at least try. Probably the most valuable technique in the whole video.
What made you target that particular part of the rocks? Did you just drift/cast till they bit, or was there something special about that spot?

Where do you launch your boat to fish there.
awesome
WHAT WEIGHT XRAP YOU USE
are you southeast of the Wall or SE of the rock dam
Most likely SE of the wall in MRGO
Is that the 3" or 4" X-Rap?
