Founder of Icons8 here. I’m impressed by your tutorial; I think it’s the best one I’ve seen so far. I definitely want to see more tutorials of Lunacy! We will include them in our mailings and our documentation.
I was thinking of starting with figma but I figure I will give these a try now. More detailed video on Lunacy please Paul. And as always thank you for bringing us the best content. You are my guru
Great content. thanks a lot.Really enjoyed the video. I was heading for figma for report design, but now I ´m looking for these two tools and let the team decide what they want to go with. Well done.
Good timely topic. There are a ton of tools. I like UXPin. Unlike Figma, UXPin screens are text selectable web pages. Do a mockup and hand it off, then the builder can get images and text out of it without a separate step.
Thank you so much! I am currently studying UI/UX and I use Adobe Xd unfortunately XD the new version isn't free anymore I moved to Figma and currently looking for other free web design tools.
I do have a recent video, but will be doing another one soonish as there’s some changes and I’m using 2 setups. Here’s the studio one: ruclips.net/video/XXf03uJCgiI/видео.html The Tannoys are good, but I’ve replaced them with my Adam Audio T7V’s which are superior and smaller.
Adobe: “We bought Software XYZ for $20,000,000” Also Adobe: “We can not include the new app in the ‘all apps’ subscription, because you know, our developers continue to develop innovative solutions for you...” Adobe becomes more and more like Microsoft or Facebook the bigger they become. Eliminate competition by assimilation.
@@synjarimyriam Since they bought Macromedia. But until recently all acquisition was included in the “all apps” subscription. Since they acquired the 3D software they let you pay extra. They even wanted to get rid of Dimension until their customers complained and Dimension was back. As a heavy XD user I’m concerned now for those reasons.
@@synjarimyriam Im around since Photoshop 2.0. Generally I’m happy with the set of products, but recent policy changes let me pay more attention. I hope the acquisition of Figma will accelerate XD or replace XD but not put Figma into another ”extra“ that you have to pay for.
When Adobe bought Macromedia back in 2005, they also acquired a very nice piece of software called Fireworks and killed almost immediately. This is not new to Adobe.
I am leaning towards Lunacy, but it seems the pros on RUclips are going with Penpot. Considering Penpot just closed a round of funding, it may start to push out some promotions to get more gurus to support it.
Thanks you very much Paul for this and many other tutorials. On track to adopt Figma, but hesitant to this transition to Adobe (and a simple matter of cost). So please... More detailed Lunacy videos...!!!
We are in the unfortunate position of needing to migrate from XD.. Figma seems good.. but dev mode pricing is a joke... and Pixso seems like a bit of a rough alternative.. but an option.. just that they don't support adobe fonts like Figma does so that's a big issue. They only support fonts that are downloaded to your machine.. not adobe CC fonts.. I have reached out to support and they have been useless.. doesn't bode well!
It’s the Adobe way. If you can’t beat ’em you buy them out. Quick (not complete, just what I can remember offhand) history of what Adobe has bought: Freehand (folded into Illustrator), Pagemaker (folded into InDesign), and if memory serves me correct, they bought Photoshop. Still it’s a bit depressing. I was about to learn Figma, but now Maybe not. Let’s just hope they don’t buy out Affinity.
It's true for (CoSA's) After Effects and others too. What Adobe does bring though (most of the time) is a generally consistent UI as well as a decent clipboard and/or way to "round-trip" files from one app to another with less hoop jumping to make it all work. Of course, that comes at price - or... an ongoing monthly never-ending fee.
@@badcatdesign I find Adobe's interfaces way too cluttered - I switched to Affinity 4 yrs ago and have never looked back. I've been using Lunacy for awhile - never did use Figma much as I like working offline for dev. Affinity lets you round trip too - and its an inexpensive 1 time purchase for each program with free upgrades.
Hi! Just trying Lunacy, but I'm I the only one that experienced ZoomIn/ZoomOut issue (on 2 different mac)? Can't do it via cmd+/- neither with just +/-
We've just checked zoom, and it works both via cmd +/- and +/-. Please try restarting Lunacy. If it doesn't help, let me know what macOS you have, and I'll do my best to help you 🙂.
The problem with Adobe is pretty much the bundling and charging high fees to use their software. I also hate the extra sh*t they add to my PC that gives me the privacy jitters.
20 billion is utterly insane for Figma. That's 5 times more than Disney paid for *Star Wars.* I mean come on, this little vector UI design/mockup app they worked on for a few years is 5X more valuable than the biggest entertainment movie franchise ever? You better bet Adobe will be heavily monetizing it and removing free access in various ways. Figma is ruined, I would not recommend learning it or relying on it for anything at this point.
I don't see why not. Until we know more, it's still free and one of the most popular prototyping tools out there. Plus, learning and understanding it will help transition and use tools like those covered here today.
@@WPTuts Thank you for your reply! :) Ah offcrouse! :) So, not really a practical reason? A 100% free alternative could be better, but because of the reason you said, too many will use Figma? And you said in the video you used Figma for a few months - What did you use before? How did you start your design process on a new website if you did not use Figma? :)

They remind me of Microsoft Office. You pay hundreds of dollars for hundreds of whistles and bells you will never use. Open source is the giant killer.

Thanks for stopping by Ivan and glad you like the video. :)
I certainly will be doing some more tutorials on Lunacy over the coming weeks/months. :)
Why do I feel like that this platform will have locked premium features as well?

did you use Lunacy ?
Thank you for Lunacy.. just what I needed, I hope they paid you for this🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
A tutorial on Lunacy would be appreciated. Thx in advance.
Great video, thank you!
quick question: what about exporting options for dev, like CSS, color palette, dimensions ?

Too expensive for most and the free one is pretty much useless.
Please make a tutorial for both !
Thanks for this video. The first thing that came to mind when I heard the news was to delete Figma and find a new software.
Thanks for the alternatives.
This was already announced 4 days back. i was wondering why so few people talk about this.

+1 for tutorial for Lunacy
Thanks. Please do some videos on Lunacy
Helpful video. Will try both. Thanks
I'd be in favor of a Lunacy tut. It looks awesome. Thank you for these two alternatives. Awesome tuts as always.
Off topic but do you have a recent studio tour and why you use the tools and hardware you do?

heyy that's awesome.. but how we get the css of any design in Lunacy?
Select the object and press F4 to access the CSS code for it.

I had no idea Figma got bought by Adobe. I've been learning over the last week or so. Let's hope they don't get rid of the free version.
Fingers crossed!
I would say continue learning Figma as it has a lot of structured courses available, and it will be an easy transition to Lunacy or Penpot.
