Got lucky enough to come across Mark King in London and was spending some days off in the country. He was so humble and nice to me enough to dedicated some minutes to talk a little bit with me and took a picture done with me. Moment was wonderrful for I felt like being in the 80'S back again. Love that Man and all Level 42 music. Respect and miss the great 80'S.
Loved listening to Mark talk about Boon. It's still on my mind. I could listen to the lovely, fun, talented, adorable Mark King talk all day long. Thanks Julian.
I was lucky enough to meet Mark twice in fact back in the 80's and he is such a thoroughly decent and nice guy. Very sad about Boon, possibly one of the most under rated guitarists ever and a key component of the Level 42 sound.
Mark, I've met just once, the most non arrogant down to earth lovely man, you could hope to meet. I still forgiven him for thinking I was a member of the press at their Ryde Gigs. Such a genuine guy
I still have a mental image of him teasing Cherie Lunghi in the video for Something About You. She looked pleasingly annoyed and they ended up driving down the driveway in a Shelby AC Cobra, the number plate read: RAM 1T. And his playing and writing are brilliant. RIP Boon. Say Hi to Alan & Allan.
Nice to hear how close he and Boon were as buddies. It rings true because Boon appeared to stick around Mark even after he left the band. To an outsider which I am of course, they seem like chalk and cheese the pair of them....so it's lovely to hear they connected so well. I'm fond of Boon. Always have been. I have mental illness in my family and I myself had a brush with suicide in 2017. So even though I wouldn't have seen any of this coming I found myself looking out for to see how Boon was, noticing early on that he was a quiet one with no performer theatrics or poses, then having to fulfil a function in a corporate-driven success. I did meet him once. A softly spoken man but with an endearing smile. I like and admire how he plays in Level 42. So much modesty and restraint within a powerhouse, indeed performing next to a powerhouse!
Hi Dave. I had the pleasure of meeting Boon about 25-30 times and your summary is similar to mine in the tribute I did nearly a year ago. ruclips.net/video/bS_Jgwjqp4I/видео.html
Great interview and Mark hits it right in the head about Boon. He was such an underrated guitarist, some of the guitar lines that he created especially in the early days of Level 42 is as complicated and difficult as Mark's basslines to play.
@@JulianHallLevel42 no what i ment with underrated is not enough people reconized he's amazing guitar skills. If you analyze some of the stuff he does and some of his choice of notes in his solos and some of the chords/riffs he puts into the songs you will find out how truly amazing and unique a guitarrist he was
KS I’m a guitarist as a hobby at this point and take lessons from a jazz professional but I get what your saying about Boon - he was a brilliant guitarist always playing brilliant melodies that fit the songs and he didn’t play fast solos to play fast , the solos went with the melodies of the songs . He complemented mark , mike and Phil well and the chemistry of the original lineup was one any working musician would do anything to have . It’s like true love , a great musical chemistry is rare
@@mariomessina1147 not only that but he could also play a killer "funk" groove guitar and he's sound was very interesting. The les Paul, with a little distortion, delay and reverb and some chorus that's the sound he uses when he plays "funk" grooves
KS very distinct that he played funk on Les Pauls and his use of effects like many pros was brilliant . He is a jazz schooled musician , his timing and Feel were impeccable and absolutely he could groove !
Thank Julian! So nice to hear this and recollections from Mark of growing up in Teens years and visiting States w/ Boon in 1979. I'm happy the BBC aired this hope many outside L42 will remember Boon and his gifts Lyrically and his guitar playing. Thanks again!!
Julian, thank so very much for this. I wished for a reunion of the original four, but, alas that will never happen. Still, Boon's memory will always resonate every time a Level 42 song is played. Long live L42!!
Thank you Julian!! I absolutely adore Level 42, especially Mark King!!! rip Boon, I will always love & appreciate your contribution to Level 42. #levelhead4life
When it was the songs were released I could relate to the songs to the lot in the last year since my mum died last year over a year ago. Thank you level forty-two.
Hi again! Way to go Julian! Worth every penney and more memories for your 42 catalogue. Just found out Mother's Day is worldwide! Happy for you she's doing good...
Nice that my upload of the Montreux Jazz gig got a mention. I'll probably get a YT strike now. Hehehe. Sad about Boon. One of the first members of a Brit Funk band to pass away. He had a very unique funky swing. It's amazing how Boon sounds funkier than Nathan. I blubbered away while listening to his funk chops of the song World Machine recently. I didn't think I would get so emotional about it. Thanks for the upload Julian.
Hi again! A really great interview with Mark. I so enjoy hearing him talk about all that's 42. What a busy summer festival schedule they have. Wow!! Anything you'll be able to attend Julian? Thx as always for sharing this... Seeing that it's Mother's Day here today it made me think of yours when she was ill last year. Hope she's well and doing good!!
Yes CC. I have paid a small fortune to get from row seats at the o2 gig with Kool & The Gang, the Brand New Heavies and Heather Small of M People. Expect some great footage.
Yes Mandy. Due to me poor computer skills, I took nearly 2 hours cutting the songs out as on the first upload they were blank and there was 7 minutes of nothing. Really pleased you got to see Mark and Mike. Did you ask the obvious question?
Did Boon commit suicide? I can't find what happened. I know he had some mental health issues with anxiety & performing that made him leave Level 42 in the late 80's.
I seem to have upset another fan Paul (probably jealousy) so I normally get one dislike. I know who he his so I won't be shaking his hand if I see him at a gig!
@@JulianHallLevel42 Level 42 are one of my all time favourite bands, managed to see them live in Dundee (early 1990's) while up there for work. Yes they have a bass player that is up there with the finest in the world, but all the other members of the band were/are utterly brilliant and they created such a synergy. Let the haters hate, they don't know what they are talking about. Keep posting all the great videos, they are really appreciated.

Lovely to hear Mark speak a little on Boon😊👍🏻
I'm sure there will be more to follow Simon.

And Allan Holdsworth as well Stephen.

I would have been first in the queue for that gig.
Julian Hall, likewise. I was hoping it would of happened one day. I reckon they could of sold out a big venue for that reunion. Alas.. RIP Boon.
Great interview....man's a legend. 🎸 great to have the opportunity to hear this...stay safe and keep the....bass 👍🤣

Me too Monica.
Great interview. Boon was a great guitarist as is Mark. But Mark on the bass is really a sight to see.
Thanks so much for posting..as a songwriter found it damn relatable...did he say Walthamstow? ..I know it well haha!
I'm not far from Walthamstow

Is this the one I put on the Level 42 Facebook groups?.

Bi-Polar finally caught up with him.
May he rest in peace.
Bernard Edwards was asked what strings he used.
To which, by many reports, he replied "I dunno. What strings come with a Fender Jazz?"

DagwoodMMA. Maybe the reason you can’t find anything is because the family want to keep it private
Boon did die of suicide. He was found dead at his home.
😎😎😎
Two dislikes!?!? go get a life. Did they get upset that there were no pretty pictures? Sad to hear of the loss Boon, a fantastic musician.
