I happened across this video the day BEFORE my Wavestate arrived. I though it was interesting, but didn't think much about until I received my synth. After playing with the Wavestate for 2 hours (using its factory patches), I was ready to pack it up and send it back. It just seemed too complex and not very musical. I'm someone that likes a LOT of useable factory presets that I can tweak, rather than someone that wants to make EVERYTHING from scratch. Then I remembered this video and a few of the tricks that were mentioned. I started noodling around with the INIT Performance, making my own patches based upon what was mentioned here. Surprisingly, I came up with some amazing pads almost instantly. I will be keeping my Wavestate now that I see programming is nowhere near as intimidating as it once seemed. The sound quality is wonderful and you can design your own patches fairly quickly, but don't expect to be wowed with the factory patches unless you write horror or science fiction soundtracks for a living. There is a very musical instrument in there if you give it just a few minutes AND you pay attention to this video.

Don't be disheartened by the thumbs down. It seems that media platforms like RUclips have either created and or allowed for critics of all kinds. Streams of commenters picking on anything that seems remotely 'unprofessional', unpolished, unscripted and or natural. The beauty of platforms like RUclips is the ability for all to share and all to comment.. But context is important. Its non-sensical judging someone who is sharing their interests in a casual, homely manner the same way you view and judge the leading representive for a Global reaching company like Apple, who have in comparison an unlimited budget and a entirely different agenda.
Personally my vote is for the individual to be real and honest to themselves, as this translate to how they treat others.

Out of all the Wavestate videos I’ve watched this week, and I’ve watched way more than I should admit to, this has been my absolute fave, because it’s quintessentially British, and anyone moaning about professionalism needs to get a life. This is simply a Synth lover enjoying his rig with a beer and providing some useful advice, my guess is Simon doesn’t give a monkey’s if it comes across as professional or not, because that’s not his aim here. I’m nearly always having a beer in my studio, and why the hell not?! This is a real vid made by a real, genuine person.
There's an absolute tonne of ‘proper’ Wavestate demo and instructional vids on here, so go to them if that’s what you want. Let’s not slate someone for giving us an impromptu and casual take as an alternative.
This made me laugh more than anything, and I’ve subscribed as a result, because it’s not yet another boring corporate style video, or some guy making crappy beats whilst trying to look cool (not suggesting for a second that you're not cool of course Simon!). Massive thumbs up from me, and now I’m off to find my credit card to buy this thing…

Nice demo. It’s a really deep machine. Def not for just skimming presets although they def can get you to interesting starting points. You have to spend time programming to get the most out of it. Unlimited mod matrix. Mine tends to glitch momentarily when changing programs or effects, etc. so not really great for live playing. Selective randomness is cool. If you find something you like SAVE IT or you can’t really get it back. 4-part multitimbral! Cheers!

What is missing is a comprehensive list, with a description for each of these lanes presets. I could find the list, but no description for each item.
Yet I feel it could be very powerful, just to know you can conjure, for example, a preset pitch lane doing a minor arpeggio, with another preset of a nice sample lane, with a preset of timing that would (still for example) do a doted-quarter / eight note pattern.

So I have the Wavestate. Sounds awsome. However, an idiot huge mistake from the Korg engineers is that knobs (except for MOD knobs) don't send midi CC information. Huh ??? Come on guys @ Korg, we do live in 2020, no ?

I wonder if Korg will update the firmware though? might be worth joining the wavestate facebook group and mentioning it, one of the Korg chaps is quite active on there.

Have you tried sequencing another synth with the wavestate? Does it work or make any sense at all?

Love the Lego 8043 Set in the Corner.. Sorry Had too, I have the same exact set, but redid it as the bulldozer lol. Also have the WaveState and OPsix.. Som fantastic keyboards. Just miss the after touch and 61 keys. BUT heard that is coming in late 2021. So Fingers Crossed :) Love the overview and tons of Shit in here comment lol. And that fact you are relaxed drinking a ale doing it. 5 Stars! Loved It! lol

Ha ha yes 8043 indeed, it's for the kids, honest! Glad you liked the video, thank you for your comments. Korg are on fire at the moment, some great synths coming out - I've ordered the modwave so looking forward to getting abuse from youtube when I do a video on that :-) I decided to skip the opsix for the moment (DX7 was the first synth I ever played in 1988, don't think I have ever got over the FM experience), but interested to hear your take on it.
Lots of comments about aftertouch and not having module versions of these 3 octave affairs from Korg....so it makes sense for them to wait and see if there is enough demand before making those versions.

Do you know how to bypass the filter? It says there is a bypass in the manual.

"Ive written more patches in the last few days than any of these..."
Haha I only said this to myself last night in the studio while using it. I think I've done 20 patches, its the first time Ive ever saved a patch! lol

Useful presentation about a synthesizer that I hope to purchase this week. I just wish the drinking was not part of the video. Please help the advertiser and then present your material.

I do these videos for fun, I'm not paid by any advertiser, so don't have to follow anyones rules, except RUclipss of course!
Hopefully the video was useful though. It is a really great synth, really hope you enjoy it!
...steepish learning curve but well worth it I reckon.

I've tried watching this demo three times now but find it way too disjointed to make any sense out of his presentation. Probably too many Frosty Ferrets before hand.

The uniqueness of being individuals. Your points are valid. But he his a fellow being casually sharing somethings he finds interesting in this particular synth. He is not a Korg rep trying to convince you to part with your cash, or at least does not appear to be.

I had to stop watching this, he kept stopping, stuttering, laughing, it got too annoying, and it undermined his credibility, IMO.
