Maik, I would love if you could look at reproducing the sounds of the two Scritti Politti albums ‘Cupid & Psyche 85-86’ and ‘Provision’. In my opinion both masterpieces of eighties synth pop with some of the greatest sequences drum ever. Love you work - so evocative of the 1980’s, I’ve found myself getting teary eyed 🥲

Grace Jones and Trevor Horn created a master piece with that album... Let's be honest, it was all Trevor... however, it will always be one of the most recommended albums by me. I absolutely love it. I can remember playing it for hours and hours on long drives on the road as a full time keyboard player with three other musicians in the same car. It had a little something for everyone, Drums and Bass and Guitar and the Go-Go good god, The Go-Go was really the very first of its kind, way before Washing D.C. Enough about Slave to the Rhythm. I found out about your channel because I'm a big fan of the Korg Wavestation. I had one way back when, and I recently found one and decided to purchase it. Wow, it brings back so many memories. I love these patches and I'm interested in picking up the Wavestate... I'll be sure to download your patches. Thanks for taking the time creating these amazing patches and taking the time to produce the videos along for them .

Thank you so much! Great work! From what I've heard the pattern in Crazy was achieved by playing a standard pad sound and automating Midi CC7 (Volume), thus creating a gate effect with that. I don't know if that is true but it would fit into Trevor Horns habit of fiddling with every parameter and coming up with surprising ideas.
Nowadays one would use plugins like Kilohearts' Trance Gate for that on the bouced out audio.

    • @MaikSchott
      @MaikSchott  2 года назад +1

That could be with the automation. Funny thing is that the pad also has a lot of Organ sound in it if you listen to the original

And he even had some of the best sound programmers of that time in his team, like Steven Lipson, Anne Dudley, ... so no chance just to dial in a preset sound. ;) Which makes your work even more remarkable.

If you imagine a song hit as a magic sonic picture ... You've managed to 'see' through the song and shown us how one could virtually re-paint it sonically. You have captured a niche here ... What would also be interesting is showing us how, for example, you sampled and created the rhythmic template clips in 'Crazy' . There IS a skill in having the 'ears' to do this and then transferring it on to the wavestate. We've seen the awesome 'finished product' of these songs. I'd love to see a breakdown of how you did one of them.

@@MaikSchott It won't dilute your business model, because though people would appreciate the skillset behind what you do, more people are still going to purchase your song template breakdowns, but in the same way it would eencourage others to try and do template breakdowns of their own songs or some lesser known hits.

Thank you Krzyztof! The Display is just a nerdy Video post production from me. A simple plexi glass with the screen video on it.

Absolutely fascinating and very inspiring! A huge smile on my face at several moments in this incredible video. You've done an amazing job! More please!!!
Could I suggest Vince Clark/Erasure as a possibility for another video, or as Keekee Fries suggests, the sounds from Human League's Dare/Love & Dancing. Thank you.

Forgot to clarify that my above request would be using the Korg Wavestate again if possible please.

Thank you Gary for the compliment! In fact I am already working on a new WaveState soundset and Human league is definitely on my list.

Incredible Sound set. Vundabar & gut gemacht. Your Studio also looks incredible calm atmosphere. Where did you get the Vintage lamps from?

Thanks a lot. The lamps are simple bulbs from the DIY Market 😁

Maik you are a genius! Your analysis of these 80s hits are amazing. I've been in awe of the Korg Wavestate since I bought one over a year ago and I'm very much looking forward to exploring your sound-sets. Thank you so much for your generosity. I've been a keyboard player for 60 years and have a number of very tasty synths.... I combine Wavestate sounds with melodies on a Kurzweil PC4... that is an amazing combination. I think you could do with two or three Wavestates and then put on a performance of 80s music. Where are you located?

A little nitpick, Trevor Horn and Geoff Downes joined Yes after Jon Anderson and Rick Wakeman left, and made the album Drama in 1980. Then Steve Howe and Geoff went to found Asia, Horn went to produce. Then Squire found Rabin and started to work together, and finally Jon Anderson joined and they made the 90125 album in 1983. Horn produced it.

Maik, thank you for making these fantastic and inspiring sounds. I’m about to buy the vst Wavestate specifically so I can use them! A suggestion for your next project… how about the sounds of Thomas Dolby? As well as his own stuff he did some amazing production work particularly with Prefab Sprout, but also with the likes of Foreigner and Joni Mitchell.

Thanks Mark. I had a short Thomas Dolby phase in my life but that was not too intense 😁. Interesting music but I don't know. I will go into myself for a brainstorm for the next Soundset.

Hi Maik.. I was looking for a new portable synth to take out with me when I work contracts in Hospitals. I was really interested in the Hydrasynth explorer to the point where I was about to buy one however, I saw an
'Andertons Music" review of the Wavestate MK2 and it sounded amazing. I am a product of the 80s music scene and found your page.. Just love this stuff.. Explorer or Wavestate ? lol

It's always hard to tell if this or that synth.
I found that the Wave sequencing features added to the possibilitiy of using custom samples make the WaveState such a powerful synth you will not find in any other as far as I know.
So it always depends on what you want from a synthesizer.
