Deadlock have always been about extremes - and always will be! Fans love these Germans for every emotional force run through the raging depths of death metal, technical prowess, borderline pop-laden melodies, nods to classic metal, and casual flirtation with trance and beats. As expected, Hybris turns out to be a multi-faceted monster in terms of both shape and content - and at the same time painfully digs through the last events in the Deadlock camp. Despite the tragic death of founder and drummer Tobias Graf (immortalized with a minute of silence on the album) and the departure of singer Sabine Scherer (now replaced by Margie Gerlitz), the megalomaniac creative urge could not be suppressed: 2016 sees Deadlock rising from the ashes, scarred, but heads held high. Hybris finds its inseparable counterpart in a 90 min DVD documentary 'The Longest Road' that translates the album concept to visuals. A gripping and blunt rollercoaster ride that sees light in the blackest night - and that is something only Deadlock can achieve!

Well, i gotta say, for being a particularly 'new' band with all the lineup changes, i'm pretty much loving this track. I am looking forward to get the new album. Go Deadlock!
They've been out since 2005.. They're definitely not new..Followed them since the very beginning. Yes they've changed members quite a bit though...
Yeah that's what i meant with the 'new', don't get me wrong, i am long time fan as well. It's just that this is not the Deadlock i used to love (Sabine, Johannes, Tobias, etc.)... BUT i am definitely enjoying this new line up and Margie is really making me want to hear more from them. Can't wait for the new release! just a few days!!
i miss Sabine, but i think Margie did a very good job, and the new album is pretty good, it is a grower, got better and better after few listening
This band has been consistently good with their works. This one was no exception. I adore the hell out of them.
After their first albums they had lost it big time but this song indicates they are on the right track again.

Had to check for myself. It's similar. The instrument is the same but the notes are a little different.
The distorted vocal intro is better than the entire rest of the song.

+Hunter Cluff I think it's way to easy to reduce a band to it's vocalist. Deadlock ist still Deadlock with Basti as main composer and main songwriter. Give Margie the chance she deserves since she is an awesome female singer. You are just accustomed to Sabine but she left the band because she wanted to (family etc.). In my opinion it's the complete wrong way to hate the band now just because of a new female singer who still is awesome and will grow on you...

Her singing style is exactly the same. There's really not a big difference at all.
+MudRyan I think Margie has a "Head Voice" which is a higher and lighter voice. More soft I'd say. Sabine (IMO) has "Powerhouse vocals" then again I could be wrong since there are so many definitions of different vocal ranges. But I think for that fact, it catches old listeners off guard.

Although I prefer Sabine, the new singer is a lovely fit for them. Sabine's voice was harder, but this softer voice adds a new dimension to their sound. Also I like the experimental influences in this track a lot. Really excited to hear more from the upcoming album!

not a bad song, terrible video, but not a bad song. Sure is weird seeing deadlock as almost entirely new band though!
It would be great if they could have Andreas Dörner from Caliban on guest vocals. I would love Andreas to go back to his old shrieky vocal style on earlier albums just for that one off track.. Like you have the clean vocals and melodies from deadlock then Andreas when it comes to final chorus or break down just to build up some steam before the track body slams you to the ground with an abrupt ending.

Gotta say, I'm glad it sounds like they're going back to their roots.started to fade on me with some of their directional choices and I definitely preferred the original two vocalists, but its a refreshing step in the right direction.
The new singer is good too. I do miss the higher notes that Sabine could hit. To me, that detail really made Deadlock stand out. Maybe it's just this song though. I hope that the new album drops soon. I'm really curious about what it will bring.

I like how everyone is judging the inconsistency of the bands lineup up but pays 0 regard to to the inconsistency of every album since Wolves. Their experimental songs were OK at best and I'm assuming that's why Joe left the band. Sabine's clean vocals were a staple and given Sabines situation, I don't think Margie/John is a bad duet at all. The harsh/pop vocals are still there just a different throat they're coming from. The video is cool but Idk what sense it makes to the song. I preordered this album with a lot of hopes compared to the last one I did, Manifesto. The Arsonist was a great step in the right direction for these guys and hopefully Hybris continues the Trent. Awesome song in my opinion
Well, this one is better than the one that led the lady to the clearing.
I hear some sounds that I recognise in this song, along with similar vocals to what they once had. There is something nagging me though. That harsh vocalist of theirs, he sounds so familiar. Reminds me of the one from Eluveitie. I think that might be why I liked it better, that and Margie seems to have blended in better at this point. I don't know. Maybe it's just me.

Maybe it's because English isn't your first language? I didn't understand what you were saying. Or maybe it's because you didn't understand what I meant. With the female vocals catching me off guard, I meant that I never listened to Deadlock before and didn't expect to hear female vocals in this song.
I haven't listened to Leaves Eyes in years. Same goes for Lacuna Coil. As for Nightwish, I liked Anette Olzon. It was refreshing and new after so many years of Tarja. I know Floor Jansen when she was still in After Forever, but her voice doesn't enchant me as much as it did in the early AF-years.
In THIS PARTICULAR song, I am ironically not a fan of the male vocals, though I really like Sabine's replacement. NO ONE will truly replace her, to Deadlock fans, but this was a GREAT choice based on what I hear so far, of the new female vocalist.

The song's fairly decent although the new singer seems lower in the mix than Sabine. Early days though, but Sabine's tones and melodies were something special. A tough act to follow, but I loved The Arsonist and I hope this is within the same ballpark.

I am just looking for Sabine's replacement to do a really good, respectable job... not to sound like I am knocking new vocalist, but NO ONE will live up to Sabine ... Still not sure about the singer. She's surely capable, but at least in this song the vocal melodies left a bit to be desired. Let's hope it's just this one, and this still sounds better than most songs in The Arsonist.
Well, it's a bit chaotic but it's pretty much a good song, the singers will get there. But I don't get the video :D Zombies playing American football? :D Is this some kind of a statement against that sport and the violence in it, how the players are mindless and bloodthirsty and stuff? I mean, I like the sport, and yeah, many players are like that, but it's strange that an EU band does it :D And I'm saying that as a guy living in the EU (the scary Eastern part, though). Or maybe it's just a fun video with sport and violence?

Well shit... Not digging the new female vocalist. Sabine sadly cannot be replaced. Her voice was so powerful and unique. Oh well... we still have plenty of past albums to enjoy her work.
Eigentlich muss man diesen Song auf zweierlei Arten bewerten:
Man bewertet ihn als Deadlock Song: Dies ist sicherlich die kritischste Art und die bei der der Song am schlechtesten wegkommt. Was - das ist nun mal so - an der neuen Sängerin liegt. Denn in diesem Kontext muss man sie halt mit Sabine vergleichen. Das Problem liegt hier meiner Meinung nach darin, dass ihre Stimme zwar ähnlich hell wie die von Sabine ist, aber Sabines Stimme immer sehr kraftvoll und stark rüberkam. Das fehlt Margie einfach (noch) . Ihre Stimme wirkt leider sehr zerbrechlich und damit recht fehl am Platz im sonst doch recht brachialen Song bzw. oft durchaus harten Deadlock Stil. Das heißt aber nicht, dass Deadlock jetzt für immer ''schlecht'' sind. Der ''neue'' (so neu ist er ja schließlich auch nicht mehr) Sänger musste sich am Anfang eben auch immer mit dem ersten Sänger vergleichen lassen und verlor bei dem Vergleich meist. Aber mittlerweile hat er seinen Stil ja extremst dem Deadlock Stil angepasst und die Aufnahmen mit ihm klingen einfach nur genial. Von daher denke ich, dass auch Margie sicher durchaus noch eine Veränderung dahingehend durchmachen wird. Im Deadlock Kontext leider vielleicht allenfalls eine 4.
Die zweite Art ihn zu bewerten ist ihn eben nicht als Deadlock Song zu bewerten: Die Band hat in den letzten Jahren einige Änderungen des Line Ups erfahren. Damit geht natürlich auch eine Art Evolution einher und es klingt natürlich anders als das, was man gewohnt war, weil es eben etwas anderes ist. Aus diesem Kontext heraus, als etwas neues bewertet, ist der Song durchaus solide. Brachial, der Sänger sehr hart, dazu als Gegenpart die Frauenstimme. Einziges Manko ist hier dennoch, dass sie etwas zart und deplatziert wirkt. Besitzt durchaus Ohrwurmcharakter und wäre damit eine 2- - 2.
Ich bin gespannt auf die weiteren Songs des Albums und - schon jetzt - fast noch viel mehr auf das Nachfolgealbum. Denn dann wird auch die neue Sängerin sicher ihren Stil und ihren Platz bei Deadlock gefunden haben =)

Hope the album is more interesting.. This is as generic as it gets :\ Also, why do people think that slow motion works in a metal video? Once or twice for drums or headbanging sure, but this much kills the rhythm.
