HFA visits Callas Audio to hear an Aries Cerat system with Wolf von Langa speakers

- I went to visit Ron Ploeger of Callas Audio to hear his new Aries Cerat system consisting of the Helene DAC, Incito S preamp, and Genus 813 Single Ended Triode Power Amplifier with the Wolf von Langa Son loudspeakers. As I already feared since I had already reviewed the Sons, it sounded spectacular. Not that you can hear this via the crappy camera mic, but I hope it does set the mood.
After this visit, Ron delivered the Aries Cerat Helene DAC and Incito S preamp about which I will write an extensive review.

I just heard these speakers in a Phasemation analog system and it was a life altering experience. It was the best sounding system at Munich HiEnd 2022 but that's not even important. There is actual music recorded on vinyl and I got to 60yo without knowing it and I would have never known if I didn't listen to this miracle. Anyone should really have a chance to experience this level of music reproduction in their lifetimes.

After hearing and seeing these beauties in person, I expected them to be considerably more expensive than they are. Just fantastic build and gorgeous sound.To think that these are actually the Aries Cerat entry-level components... Same for the Sons, btw. Ridiculously good for not ridiculous money.
@@hifi-advicehigh-endaudioeq3675 Yes Stephaan, even being the entry level, these musical instruments are not cheap for sure, but there are many more expensive, much more beautiful and far from being as good in absolute terms! Personally, I would settle for the Genus amplifier as an integrated amplifier, the DAC Helena + a good CD transport + a Streamer Antipodes K50 transport, a good vinyl turntable and a pair of the phenomenal AtlantisLab AT31 speakers (102 db and 9900 €) and voilà !
@@gwadaflat I cannot agree with you more. The price of Aries Cerat components is high, but their musical performance is not just high, but stellar, gobsmacking (many other high-end gear have gobsmacking price tag, and sometimes deliver high performance...).
In the life of an experienced audiophile there is a *before* and *after* Aries Cerat.

Ron has a lot of glass in the living room, and one would expect a bad sound, but nothing could be further from the truth, Ron has a beautiful sounding room. he now even makes his own Callas power cables too, as I can see. Would love to listen to the Aries amp one day!!
You got that 100% right! Ron knows what he's doing. It might seem like all hard materials but it's carefully designed and treated. The floor is made with fine indoor decorative gravel (siergrind) in cast epoxy resin resulting in a semi-hard but open structure while the entire ceiling is covered with a 1,5 cm layer of soft sprayed-on paper flakes (Sprayplan by the company Warmteplan). He even put in a long wall to achieve ideal room dimensions. And of course, there are several diffusers (some disguised as paintings) and traps in key locations. I hate to admit it but his room actually sounds better than mine...
And, indeed, Callas makes Aria interlinks as well as power cables. I've got a sample of both to listen to as part of the Aries Cerat review and am curious to find out how they sound!

Actually, this is a Kuzma Stogi Ref 313 tonearm, not an SME.
I see that you placed the Wolf von Langas on stands. Most times I see the speakers sitting on the floor. What difference did you hear with speakers on stands vs the floor?
What this does is position the soundstage a little higher while the chosen material (bamboo) has very little negative effect on the speaker's neutrality.

I‘ve heard a pair of son speakers.Found them very awful.I don‘t quite know what went wrong,but they had a pretty small soundstage,the voice sang to my knees.The singer seemed be half a metre tall.The Bass was pretty Slow and boomy.The highs were the only good thing about it.Maybe the Elektronics didn‘t match but for a 50k System it was pretty dissapointing…
