We’ll read every line of Dunk and Egg over the next few streams and delve beneath the surface of these subtle masterpieces that are the stories of hedge knight Ser Duncan the Tall and his disguised companion, Egg, who becomes King Aegon Targaryen IV. This is the story of how they came to travel together.

44:20 as a carpenter I can tell you that turned wood is an object carved from a whole log. Its called turned because the log is rotated while chiselled into a shape.
So, if the lance is 8-9 foot tall it was made from an entire tree trunk. Such a large would object, made with old techniques of that period, would have needed master craftmen labouring for months or years.
I realize this video is from quite a few months ago, but I’ve been listening to and watching so many of your videos and this is the first time I realized how much Cleo has the coloring of a weirwood tree! You’ve got me rereading ASOIAF -I’m noticing all the little mythological gems you’ve been talking about and all the foreshadowing. It’s making my reading even more enjoyable. I had a three hour conversation with my son the other day about the books and characters and all the references I’ve learned through your channel.

Tim makes good point about usefulness of Egg’s perspective seeing clearly the motivations and personalities of high born characters since he was raised at court.
Around 1:12:00 Dunk throws a copper (star?) down between Egg’s feet. Then as he leaves the shadows grow (by the shadow) as he reaches Ashford (Ashaii). Seems like a reenactment of Azor Ahai pulling down a meteor to corrupt the land by his capitol city. May be more in the language.
“He was still able to hold the realm together.” Not to besmirch Aegon III’s name but due to PTSD and depression, he delegated governing the realm mainly to his brother, Viserys sooo...the latter should take most of the credit

43:54 turned wood just means it was carved from a larger piece of wood. A turned ash wood staff means the staff is made from the center part of a branch or trunk of ash.

"The trees were bright with moonlight and the sky was cloudless and speckled with stars." Dunk doesn't turn around but he can feel the stable boy watching him. The next paragraph beginns "The shadows grew longer...".
So there are white moon trees, stars and Dunk feel watched, and there are shadows. It sounds like Other's are watching with there star eyes.

Love this live! Not sure if someone’s said it yet but with Tanselle she’s a dornish woman puppeteering a dragon which is symbolic of the ongoing criticism of Daeron the good’s rule- that the Dornish have too much power over him

Such a great stream! This really adds to the feeling that A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms felt more fairytale-like than most of the main series to me, even though Dunk & Egg gets pretty dark sometimes. I love these stories so much.
I LOVE the DunK & eGG stories ,they are hilarious. I listen on audible. My adhd tends to trigger when I read. All types of adhd out there. 😎 I like this pairing. You work well together.
Pennytree being between the teats is also important, because the heart is between the teats making it a symbolic heart tree

Dunk comes to an Inn, which could represent a weirwood or a weirwood cave. He meets a child, coming up from a stream, legs covered in mud. The Cranogmen who are close to the Children of the Forest are called mudmen.
I didn't remember how well reading Dunk and Egg felt like! It's a story that you cannot read it without smiling. Thank you for this stream David and Tim! You're the best ❤

At the 2 hr 40 minute mark, it hasn’t been posed yet by you two whether Dunc was actually Knighted by Sir Arlen. It’s not too consequential either way. If true, probably just George pointing out yet again that “true knights” are better and more rare than real knighted knights.
When trying to sign up for the lists, his ears turn red as he says he is a Knight. And in the opening scenes when he’s pondering whether or not to be a sell sword (I think), he says “unless…” As in, “unless… I pretend to be a knight.” Not my observations… In Deep Geek pointed me to that one.

Love Tim noting the inflation/cost of living stuff. One thing I'll tack on is that the subsequent deterioration may've been avoided if Baelor had lived. The joust *does* change the price of eggs!
Also, ton of Jesus in the Arlan burial. The grail is in brown, the thing containing Christ's blood is in the earth, Arlan is buried. Odin's not the only "speared to the wood" Godguy; the lance also evokes the Lance of Longinus. (And I have a tinfoil notion that Arlan comes back as Steely Pate. Dunk calls the Smith "the old man," acts as if he already knows Pate, and Baelor dies at Pate's hands. As if Arlan/Pate is settling the score.)

Feels like forever since there's been a Goose cameo
The tourney will change the price of Egg. He starts off as a naked orphen stable boy, who looks like an egg, worth a copper. During the story, he haches into a golden dragon, a prince and ultimately a king.
You can say he has done the opposite transformation before the story from a prince to a stable boy. A dragon hiding behind the eggshell. At the end of this story, he will do the same again.
Dunk is doing a similar thing. An orphan boy pretending to be a knight, hiding his shame and insecurity behind the shell of his armour and shield. He will eventually grow into his role, becoming what he pretends to be.
Prince Daeron is also doing a similar thing. He is a knight who doesn't want to be a knight, who runs away from his duties. He is drinking himself down into the mud. He could have been King of the Seven Kingdoms. He is a prophet but runs away. Trying to drown himself in alcohol instead.
You and @Greywastetim should actually record audiobook for dunk and egg, it would be great, i can't hear eggs voice any other way now
Maybe, since Penny Tree is located “between the teats,”Penny Tree represents the HEART-possibly Nissa Nissa’s heart used to temper the sword.

Three hours into Dave and Tim covering part of a short story, I chose to finish the stream live and waited to watch the Succession premier. That's pretty much the best I can sum up how much I enjoyed this.
Dunk and Egg is just the best. I know it's gross heresy, but I almost want more Dunk and Egg worse than Winds.
