  • Wondering how to grow moringa tree, also known as drum stick, tree of life, horse radish tree, etc?. Wonder no more!, in this video I will give you the secret to grow Moringa. Best thing of all, it's FREE!. I will also show you the special technique we use to propagate this plant at the nursery. Watch the video to find out :).
    Moringa (Moringa oleifera) Growing Tips:
    Sun: Full sun
Winter: Protect from frost. Cold hardy to high teens.
Growth Structure: Upright growth. It can be pruned to promote lower branching.
    Root system: Tap root
Pollination/Flowering: Self-fertile, it flowers early summer. Pods are ready early fall.
Watering: Follow our 50% rule for container plants. In ground, once tree is established, deep water.
    Fertilization: Anything works.
Container Growing: Short term only. Due to the tap root system, this tree doesn't do well in a container long term.
Personal Growing Tips: Watch video to find out.

We use the Moringa for a LIVING FENCE. Also we eat the leaves fresh and dried. Our Philippines farm specializes in MORINGA and we give them away at our tower garden seminars and visitors. Have you tried eating the ROOT? Its also called the HORSERADISH tree. I keep the trees at 8 feet maximum height to make it easy to harvest the leaves

I ask a villager in Malaysia if I can get a seedling to grow Moringa.
He told me just a branch is enough.
The cut a finger thick branch about a foot long, and told me to stick it onto the ground.
Yup it grew into a tree in my backyard in a couple of months and was soon sprouting pods.
    Its grow fast.

I've been growing Moringa Trees for over 15 years. I love the Moringa trees. They have so many health benefits. I've found that this tree will grow in just about any soil. The best way to grow themis to put the seeds directly in the ground and you will have an 8 to 9 feet tall tree in one year, as long as it gets direct sunlight.

Hehe.. all Filipino knows Moringa tree aka Malunggay 😁. It’s part of our landscape. Food and medicine. It’s a natural antibiotic. I remember when I was young everytime I get a cut my grandmother would scrape the branch outer skin. Squeezed the green juice on my wound to prevent infection 😁

I knew nothing about growing this thing, and it ended up 2 stories high and more than 10feet wide in the branches. Each branch was as thick as 5'' across where I cut them.
I've cut it right back about 5 times and each time it grew thicker and taller😅

Good info to grow Moringa! I learned alot! I'm in San Jose, CA and the first year, I grew 100 seedlings in ground and it died in winter as it gets down to 28F. Luckily some had roots so it surprised me and few grew back. It took a few years before the trunk was stable above ground and now it appears to be stable after six years. Now it's at least 15 ft tall so far, but I want volume, not height. I get good leaves, now need wider canopy and growing for drumsticks! I have two plants in pots from 6 years ago and it is still dies back yearly and isw only 1 foot tall max. Thanks!!!

I do cutinngs and stick limbs in the ground. That has worked well. Zone 9a allows all my moringa to come back after frost but will protect them with leaves and straw this year. Thanks.

I bought a moringa tree at a flea market in a gallon pot for eight dollars and I planted it,
    and it sure did grow.
    once it seem to have
died from the cold and yet another time a tree man sawed it off! 😢But it grew back!😅. I have cut it back many times so it’s only about eight or 10 feet tall and three trunks. I’ve use the leaves many times for tea. I am trying to grow a new tree from one of the stocks of the tree and little green things are coming out of it so I’m glad I got more tips here thank you very much.

Best video I have found on growing moringa! I am in Arizona and I have a moringa tree that I grew indoors from seed, after many failures. It's 17 inches tall and I was planning to transplant outside when it outgrows this new pot. If I do this in this summer heat, will I have to bring it outdoors a little at a time to get acclimated to the heat, or can it go from 78 degrees right out into the 100+ temperatures and sunlight?

Hi again Alan, from your experience growing Moringa seeds, do you find that they will grow from seeds in the full desert sun and heat? I live in the desert with 120+ degree heat and no humidity. I wish to plant several Moringa trees on the west side of the house. This side has absolutely no protection anywhere from the direct summer sun and heat.
I have noticed that my seedlings in 2 liter soda bottles struggle very hard with the full sun. They basically stopped growing and try very hard just to survive and not die. Since I moved them to the covered porch, removed them from the water tray and now give them only morning and late afternoon sun with daily top watering, they are growing once again. The tallest is only about 7", but it is about a month and a half old.
Seeing that makes me think that I need to grow them up a bit, then acclimate them to the full sun and then finally transplant them. What are your thoughts and experiences on this? Thank you.

When you put the seed into the potting soil do you suggest watering from the bottom, because you put that seed in dry soil

    • @maribelmeza4494
      @maribelmeza4494 24 дня назад

You can water from the top. He was just saying to water from the bottom when the seeding doesn’t have a woody stem. That’s when the stem will rot if watered from the top.

I like your content, but growing the seeds: crack the shell and soak the insides for 12 hrs. Then put on a damp paper towel in an inclosed jar or bag on a heat mat 95 degrees. After root is 1” long, plant the root only in soil with good drainage.
Next, prune once 3-4 feet to get more leaves. Good video.

Everything else he said is correct. Mine didn't like a pot, went into the ground and went mad within months. Plant out as soon as you have full sun days. Water, I water mine rarely, they like a good drink only if it days of no water above say 45 degree as in Perth WA. I've never really given any fertlizer, but it will take a bit if you are growing with other plants.

Is it the ground freezing that kills the tree in winter?? Could you mulch with a wide circle of deep leaves and other stuff to keep the ground from freezing so bad?? Guess I will find out!! I figured since the root went straight down, it might be possible for it to survive the cold.

    • @qctropicals
      @qctropicals  Год назад +3

Yes root grows straight down. But if the top dies off, it doesn't matter how deep below ground the roots goes, it will all die off. As long as you keep the soil from freezing, you should be ok.

Does the tree of Moringa need much sunlight ? I had to plant them in my garden because we don't have this plant in my country that much and planted some seeds but I'm worried that they will not grow more or may die!!!!

Are "winged moringa seeds" more viable than wingless? It seems like they would be fresher and less processed?

Are electric heat tapes advisable in the dirt around the tree maybe from 3 ft from the roots in winter to keep dirt temps up? And cover the tree if temps are in the teens?

As long as the soil doesn't freeze, it will come back. Would the heat tape keep it from freezing?
