I wouldn’t tell him to his face but I think he knows my opinion of him😁. He is the best I’ve worked with and his finish especially after we have sprayed it is blemish free. Not sure how many of our videos you have watched but thank you for watching this one. If you continue and watch more you will see Matt is part of our team full time now. 👍🏻
Good plasterer but using bonding rather than plasterboard adhesive is usually a no go. Bonding is brittle and absorbs moisture easier creating a weaker bond. Some guys do it and it's fine but it's not ideal.
Never use bonding for D&D on a outside 9inch wall it draws the moisture from the wall when it gets wet from rain and you will see every dab grin through the paint.
Arguably you shouldn't use gypsum plaster or board at all on a solid wall. Acts as a vapour barrier when the walls need to be able to let go of moisture, so it just gets trapped and causes damp issues.
Saw a very interesting vid the other day about applying multifinish with a paint roller. Seemed to work quite well and it's a lot quicker and easier, which gives you some breathing room to get the timing right on smoothing and second coats. Probably just for boards though, not uneven walls you might want to build up.
I saw that as well but couldn’t bring myself to take it seriously. Don’t think our plasterer would go for it in fact if I asked him he’d probably walk off the job 😁
Quality work that. At what point you use board packers instead of dab adhesive? If you've gotta make up more than say 30mm behind a board? I like that method a lot especially if you've gotta go from nothing to something!
Matt likes to add a board packer if he’s going over a 22-25 mm dab but it’s dependant on what the surface is like and structurally sound it is as well. That’s what we think anyway and it works for us 👍🏻
There is no technical answer to that Jason other than he’s always done it so I presume the old school plasterer he was taught by did it 🤷 It certainly works though so who I am to question it 👍🏻
Hi Si and thank you for taking the time to comment. Our plasterer has always used it for dabbing and we have never had a problem with it. Everybody does things different and if he’s confident with using it that way then we are happy with it as well. Thanks for watching our video 👍🏻
Hey guys, I own a 2 story detached with a single story garage attached, the garage has a large attic with plenty of head room for a conversion, I would love to break out a door from one of the upstairs adjoining bedrooms however the top of the door would have to follow the angle of the roof, if you understand me, do you need a lintil for the doorway? And have you ever seen a 45 degree insert like that? How would you do it? Any advice appreciated, thanks.
Hi Jez and thanks for commenting on our channel. Our plasterer has been using it for years instead of board adhesive and to be honest after seeing his reasons why first hand I can’t disagree with him, it does the same job and the finish he hands back to us prior to us spraying it is second to none. We have never been back to any of our jobs because of his use of it either 🤷
Great tips, and some top tips from a top bloke.
He must be the best plasterer I have ever come across. His attention to detail and customer satisfaction is second to none. Some really top tips too.

@@mrabuilders6723 I’ve watched this entire loft conversion. You are all awesome. Keep it up
That’s very kind of you to say and glad your enjoying watching our videos. 👍🏻

Can’t disagree with that but the walls we are going onto are cavity so all good 👍🏻
@@mrabuilders6723 Yea I know just giving you the heads up, I've seen it done twice on solid external walls and it was very costly👍

Thanks for that but I did have to question what I’d shown in the episode 😁

Good video but can I ask why Matt uses Bonding instead of Dab to stick the boards on 👍

@@mrabuilders6723 ok Thanks for getting back to me. Every plasterer has different methods but as long as the outcome is the same 👍👍
Good vid 👌 but it's plumb not level 😉👍
Decent video but dabbing with bonding!! Why not just use drywall adhesive as per the manufacturers speciations..

🤣 plasterboard dot + dabbed with bonding?! Rather than drywall adhesive?

@@mrabuilders6723 it’s adhesive properties are nowhere near what drywall adhesive is… you do you!
I didn’t like the look of that dodgy character lurking outside🤣
What can I say Billy. He’s been hanging around since the start of the job but he doesn’t cause any trouble so we let him stay 😂
