Interesting watching the way the EMD's work. Im a sparks driver and basically drive a computer. Great seeing a real train in action. As a country boy who grew up in the Mallee, nice to see the countryside too
Classic veteran EMD, got to love that Beer Keg control stand in the "B" class. Back when they built the "B" class EMD in the USA thought Australians a little "odd' in requesting a double ended cab...Great video Adam.
They also were at first dead set against VR's requirment of a 3 motor bogie but then after developing a bogie for the B class quickly realised the advantages it had and put it on their locos to make the SD7
Fantastic video mate, great to see the B classes, hopefully they (and the S's) have had some work done on them over the last few months to keep them going strong with the N's taking their place on the grainys
Just watched this on my 55 in TV! Awesome sounds, information, different camera views and driver actions. Great video. I’m leaving a like. I sent a Instagram DM to you Adam. 👍
I hope SSR or others keep these engines going forever. Such a great piece of Victorian design, engineering and manufacturing. Hands down the best design of any streamliner or EMD loco, anywhere.
Ill be blunt yalls rail scene is like a time warp to the 1970s, 80s and 90s in terms of american railroading because there was still a good vairiety of 1st and 2nd gen disels all over the place, they didn't disappear until the mid 90s, early 2000s and yet even now some are still hauling freight over here on occasion :). Truly a testiment to the men who designed and built them. You truly dont get this good quality from EMD anymore period
I'm testing my memory here. Was it B61 that was named after Harrold W Clapp? I don't know why but when I was much younger I used to get excited whenever I saw it trundle past my home on the Geelong line, I have no idea who Harrold was or why he was honoured in that way!! Enjoyed the video, thank you.
B60 was the engine(loco) . Great footage, always love the B class. It's amazing to see these locos still working. Servicing and maintaining these locos keep these going and also it also gives people jobs.(renewable energy) LOL!!
I don't think so, the horsepower requirements and lack of long loops makes it hard to operate a long train on BG. if we get newer locos possibly but I can't see it happening atm.
3:55 Ah, Tourello. I had an ancestor who apparently died at the station that used to be at that crossing, apparently the family had gone to the station to catch a train into the city and realised they'd forgotten an important letter, so the ancestor grabbed a bike and rode to the house and back like the devil was on his tail only to collapse and die from sheer exhaustion when he got back to the station.
seems to be a roundabout way to get from Charlton to Melbourne via Ballarat East then south to Gheringhap, Geelong then onwards to Laverton and Melbourne
I'm at my most happy (which still isn't very happy) when I see our good Victorian broad gauge locomotives running on broad gauge where they're bloody well supposed to be. Putting them on standard gauge is akin to a pseudo hipster owning a Blue Heeler in a terrace house in Clifton Hill. *uck standard gauge!! signed: A Gunzel.
Victorian railways are antiquated for sure with badly maintained tracks and aging rolling stock, but it's amazing that technology this old is still in regular use, this locomotive must have done a massive number of miles since new! A shame it no longer has a Leslie horn on it.
wow that was wonderful ,now I know what it is like up in front of the engine.

I bet, they are very unique to Australia but it spelled the end of the need for turntables and time lost rotating engines.

Enjoy watching these country runs. Thanks for posting.
Great stuff ! Always wanted to drive big trains. D

Actually, the B-class were an old General Motors design, manufactured in NSW!!

Grew up watching the B class in newport we lived near the rail line they just sounded the best
I LOVE the B Class - guess I am a frustrated wannabe driver 😊
Thanks for sharing. Brought back my VR memories especially when stationed at Sth Dynon Depot.
Hi Adam, thanks for the ride, it is good to see the old streamliners still going strong. Many thanks, cheers Lee.
You went through Geelong ❤❤❤
Brilliant as always, good to see you took Frank Zappa for a ride!
😂😂😂
I love the American "twang" in the air horns
Love these videos, thanks.
i hadnt noticed before but the interior reminds me of the interior of our old fj holden family car.
Love these videos! Especially liked the change of pace in the music.
SO DAMN GOOD!!
Awesome work as usual Adam!!

P.S Bernie Baker has B61 named after him.
H.W.Clapp l believe was the state minister for transport at that time.
@@peterhearn3297 so which B class carried Harold Clapp’s name? Was it B60? Now I’m convinced my memory is shot 🤔
@@Cammo-vp1gl B60 later rebuilt as A60 and ran with V/line passenger for many years until the mid 2010's
Those two locomotives were often pulling the steel train from Hastings
Lovely footage Adam! Are we likely to see some full 40 hopper runs at some point? The track looks in good nick too!

Great vid. 👍 Scenery was nice except for the bloody wind turbines.

I had a feeling the bloke on the left may have been you; snooping out all the photographers lol.
I watched this with my 5yo daughter. She was quite concerned.. where do you keep your drink bottle? What if he gets thirsty and needs a drink?
We have a fridge on board so they are always ice cold! If not we might keep a bottle in our bags also. 😊
@@AUSSIETRAINDRIVER thank you. I think she was looking for the drink holders. 😊
@farmerpj haha we don't have anything that classy, but we have our spots to put a coffee on those long night hauls!

Loved it! How does one compare the beauty of the countryside vs the rat race that Melbourne is?
Who’s that strange unit up the ladder at 7:14?? 🤨😳
Hahaha

It's still got a Leslie, but the original has been rebuilt for it. And is going back on.
When you reach the video inside the Cabin,The sound's like turboprop airplane.
Why is the engineer's station on the wrong side?
This is the Australian side, we also drive on opposite sides of the road to most of the world.

is that an EMD F7?
Not the same no, but an Australian variant of a similar design.

Why this locomotive dirty,Are SSR Company Have Cleaning Tools For this locomotive?
Do you clean the Shit that drops in a Toilet? No.
The locomotive looks lazy to do a bath time hehehe🛁🛁🛀.😄

I bet none of the new locomotives being built today will last as long as this B class loco 😝😂
