You have to give the Harvard girl's friend credit for being supportive of her friend. Not only being there for her, but also being proud rather than jealous that her friend got into Harvard
When i got into Kyodai med school. (the equivalent of Harvard in Japan) i climbed mount Fuji and then paraglided from the top (which is completely illegal) and landed, .... in jail, and because it was a first time and i agreed to pay the fine, they didn't put it on my record, if they had the university would have turned me down, even after accepting me. I perfectly understand this girl. To get into Kyodai i didn't sleep more than 3 hours a day for 4 years, i had no social life whatsoever, not even a tv, or an internet connection or a video game, i didn't go for holiday, not even for a hike. I studied 18 hours a day and then just ate and slept and i still managed to lose weight. And lost all my saving because i couldn't afford to spend time working. If i had lost my right to enter Kyodai i would have jumped in front of a train, or would have had to work at a supermarket or flipping burgers for the rest of my life and my parents would have never forgiven me. And i don't mean never as in 3 years, i mean as in never until their last breath and i probably would have never seen them again out of shame. When you do not come from a rich background and your parents sweat blood and work themselves to the bone to provide you with the opportunity they never had, you don't fail. especially when their money and effort are involved.
I felt to say this. Yes your parents would have loved you still. Your hardwork would have paid of either way. You wouldn't be flipping burgers for the rest of your life. Be a little easy on yourself. And also congratulations. You did great.
@@Dobbyisfree000 That is really kind of you to say that. But you might not be Japanese and might not be familiar with Asian parenting. In the west love that parents have for their kids is unconditional and irre3vocable, in Asia it is not. You have to earn and deserve their love and doing something dishonourable is not forgotten, especially in my family. I have tremendous respect for my family and they respect me a lot for what i have achieved but their love for me comes from my achievements and my behaviour and the fact that i earn a decent living and check most of the boxes required to be a good person by their and japanese society standards. It's been over 15 years since i graduated med school and my parents still refuse to talk about the paragliding and pretend it never happened and i am strictly forbidden to mention it to any other member of the family or our neighbours. If i did you can be certain that their "love" for me, would melt like snow in the sun. When a western kid brings back home 9 As and 1 B the parents are thrilled and congratulate their kid endlessly and probably even get him or her a present, when i did it, i was scold for not bringing 10 As and sent to my room to study. There is not one greater form of toxic parenting than Asian parenting. That is why asian doctors or especially surgeons are so good, this is because we are terrified of failing. On the other hand Asian lawyers are the worst, because we are taught never to argue when accused of anything so it is very unnatural for us to defend anyone, because the little voice in our head since childhood tells us to just not argue anything. Fortunately i broke the cycle because i married someone who is not asian (this is also why so many Asian women marry western men, to escape the Asian toxicity) and i am raising my kids the Scandinavian way with only one motto "Be happy". My kids could paraglide and go to jail and lose their entrance to Harvard and i would tell them to not beat themselves at all. But this also means that my parents have zero rights on my kids' education and they are both warned that if they one day even slightly scold them because my kids do not fit their antiquated idea of things, they will never see them again until the kids decide to meet them. Trust me, when people always ask me why the suicide level among teens and children is so high in Japan i always answer that i wonder how come it is not higher.
@@kachi2782 I am sorry you had to slave away your youth to feel deserving of your parents love. You broke the cycle of an unhealthy life and made it so your children wouldn't suffer through the same things you did and for that you deserve great admiration. They have to cut the suit off when she’s conscious and only has a broken arm? It’s not like those suits are hard to get off, or tight.
