Baby wasn’t actually scripted. This season was in 2013 which is when they broke up, this was after the break up which caused it to be so much more emotional. I literally cry every time🥺.

The one thing Damon wanted for 150 years was someone who loved him, who saw the whole of him and loved him despite it. He hoped that would be Katherine, but when she made it abundantly clear she’d always chose Stefan, that love immediately turned into hate. The reason he stayed in love with Elena when she did the same was because, unlike Katherine, he knew Elena was a good person, and it hurt her that she was hurting him by not loving him. Elena falling for him is what he’s always wanted, and he got to die knowing he was loved by Elena, and his relationship with his brother was at its best it’s ever been, so he dies feeling like his life was complete and he peaked, because he actually did something selfless and was happy his loved ones were safe even if he wasn’t. Granted, he actually got resurrected because of prison world, but he didn’t know that at the time

"Please don't leave me." and "I don't have a choice, baby." OKAY, THAT'S WHEN I LOST IT COMPLETELY.
I love how Damon says he peaked because he did. For 150 years, he waited for a woman who could make his existence a happy one, only he hoped it was Katherine, and when she made it absolutely clear she never loved him, that love immediately turned into hate. Elena did the same thing, he didn’t hate her because she’s a good person and his brothers girl, but it didn’t stop him loving her, just made him feel guilty. When she finally loved him back, he was finally happy, truly happy for the first time in 163 years, and even though it took awhile, his relationship with Stefan was at the best it’s ever been by this point, because he finally let go of the hate he felt for Stefan turning him into a vampire and they became brothers again, which is why he was so devastated when Bonnie’s plan to bring them back went off the rails, because he just got his brother back and now might actually lose him, he was so panicked. Here, he’s happy his loved ones are safe and he actually gets to die feeling like his life was fulfilled because he died loved by Elena
That's what Rose meant when she said -"Love that consumes you"
The background music makes everything sadder in this scene 😭

Nina’s acting evolution when Jeremy dies she acted well but when Damon dies her acting is so real. I love this scene. She was awesome. Ian is so good here. This is amazing…

And even sadder is that the baby is not in the script and Nina and Ian had just broke up and she had a completer breakdown after filming

Well you can’t really compared death to breaking up lol. But, yeah, Elena fell in love with Damon while with Stefan and changing into a vampire made her realize that her feelings were deeper than she thought. She loved Stefan very much, especially during the first couple of seasons, but after he left with Klaus and she spent more time with Damon, she grew to love him more
There's a difference between dying and breaking up. Everybody would have a breakdown over death.

I cried with that too, this scene is so emotionally painful for me because I didn’t get to say goodbye to my mom. She got sick very suddenly and was in a coma for three weeks I never actually got to say goodbye or tell her how much she had done for me and that I lived her for it.
