Is the Air on Planes Toxic? Cabin Pressure: The Chemical Leak Cover-up | Investigation Documentary

- How healthy is the air you breathe in airplanes? There have long been claims that cabin air contaminated by engine oil is putting at risk the health of millions of passengers every year. This air often comes directly from the engines, where it is heated and compressed. In the event of an oil leak, potentially toxic chemicals can enter the plane’s air supply. Many pilots and air stewards claim their health has been seriously affected by these leaks. Some have been left unable to work for years. But the airlines deny there is a problem. We investigate aerotoxic syndrome.
This documentary was produced by Galaxie Presse and directed by Marianne Kerfriden. It was first released in 2018.

What the heck did these people inhale? For them to have brain damage, something definitely happened to them. For the airlines to ignore them is really irresponsible.
Burnt oil/hydrocarbons and organophosphates basically. Mostly neurotoxins
Gasses from the air con unit. It can happen to you in your car as well or a leak from your fridge or freezer.
Have a look in the manual of your appliances that heat or cool down and see what gas is in it. Then research it to find the effects.
If anyone has a heat pump or air conditioning they should install a oxygen sensor to monitor it all the time.
I will be taking one on board if I ever fly again but I prefer boats anyway
@@mike-ology22 I see? Thank you I was a bit unclear but it makes sense now.
@@Tammissa sorry, I've just done my Fgas training to work on these units and I don't think enough safety precautions are taken.
I like sharing knowledge and ideas to improve our way of life and found this out recently. I saw your comment and maybe replied with too much info ;)
OP among other things.
I am one of those disabled crew.
Fired and ignored by my ex company.
Freon leak? A guy I know who worked in a shop disassembling AC units became very sick from accumulating Freon. It affected him badly whereas his colleagues mostly had trace amounts, but without noticeable symptoms. The entire plant was closed down for serious ventilation repair and procedures were revamped. My friend recovered, but still gets brain fog, is regularly monitored by a neurologist and pulmonologist. He works part-time at the desk of a hotel and collects partial disability.
Thank you for your sharing!
If something like a plane crash because pilots inhale this which could impair their jobs, then airline companies would be held negligible. Safety is more important than profit .
Safety never ever comes before profit. Boeing MAX for example. And pretty much the same in a million other instances also. It would be nice to see this happen at least once but sadly greed always prevails.
I've just taken my fgas course about gasses inside heat pumps and air conditioning divining units, fridges and freezers. You should buy an oxygen monitor to use on planes. It tells you when levels are dangerously low
It's not only carbon monoxide, but also OP and TCP passing in the bleed air system through leaking seals....
It's criminal.
I am one of those injured crews.
@@estellabignon8754 Hi Estella, do you still fly these days or turned off it forever?
@@biokemical nope. Permanently unfit. Thanks to that shit.
@@estellabignon8754 Sorry to hear.
In every flight I have been I smell fumes just when the engines and air circulation system starts, before takeoff.
I lasts about around 30 seconds. I try to breath under my shirt at that time.
I had know idea how Insidious and Reckless for them to know since December 18/1958 that there was a Inherent Risk to the health to Passengers and Crew! Dean ( Soul) Toronto
Why was it that only the cabin crew on the BA flight got it? Not the pilots or passengers. Bizarre.
Perhaps it's multiple exposures on the same aircraft.
Not everybody is affected. Compare it to other illnesses, say infections, one person gets infected, the one next to her/him not. Or people who have allergies, others who don't. It also depends on their current health status, immune system and genes.
I won't ne flying eber again. These companies are a bunch of mafias.
I'm going to have to wear a mask, that can protect me from Airborne gas contamination when I'm on an airplane
Just after 3:30 he asks " is the air we breathe on a airlane safe ? " ......... i ask you IS THE AIR ON THE GROUND ANY SAFER ? .........
probably
Well, I bet the big three Legacy carrier should be watching this
If any airline own it up and do something about it,would be more respected!
Oil leaks from the forward engine bearing seal. It's a wet seal. Faa and Airbus know about it.
I had already decided not to partake in air travel, after discovering the association between air travel and human and organ trafficking. There's also the issue of air plane fuel causing destruction to the ozone layer and the release of toxic chemicals into the already toxified atmosphere. However, after watching this video I am absolutely determined to never fly again. The creator did not make humans with wings. Mankind wants to live outside of their purpose, outside of the intentions of the creator. So naturally chaos, disorder and destruction are going to occur.
Creator did not make you with phone in hand and yet you use it
@@alexdunlop9762 The creator didn't make any of the modern tools in use today. The important part, is for one to do their best not to unnecessarily contribute to the system of injustce, through their usage of modern technology.
@@zaarkhananal7165 what about modern medicine. Not all technologies cause injustice. Not everything is bad. More children are educated than ever before, fewer women die in childbirth and access to medical treatment is improving year-on-year.
@@alexdunlop9762 Some women's lives are saved through modern medicine and some aren't, that very imbalance implies injustice. Also, when you say "education", education in accordance to whom? Most young people are schooled to go work for the system, how does that oppose the system of injustice? Furthermore, one's level of socio-economic status stipulates what level of education they may even have access to.
@@zaarkhananal7165 so it would be better if nobody had any access to medicine and everybody suffered equally?
Jeeze, how many flights have I inhaled , about 20
Surely it’s possible to install a sensitive detector which can sense toxic chemicals in the cabin? Otherwise we will get the negative test results which occurred here. Costs cannot be a problem, considering the costs of the problem as a whole
Boeing didn't install them out of the fear of being sued
Anyone know if protective mask with filter FFP3 can help to limit this contamination? I'm asking seriously, as I smell something strange very often , on a plane of course,.
Wow
*Known Facts of Air in Airplanes is Toxic , harmful in long run* 🙄
*Part of Job harmful effects: always sidelined* 🥺
3:50 ..... get your facts straight . AIR DOES NOT COME DIRECTLY FROM THE ENGINES!!!!????!!!!!!!! . WHO TOLD YOU THAT BRA ...
Not from the engines!!!
Air come from outside of the aircraft , there are pumps linked to normally engine 1 which pumps inthe air , the air bled off the moters is actually just used to warm the fresh air up via heat exchangers. This is necessary because the air temperature at 10 000 meters is something like - 20 degrees Celsius
The air outside isn't enough to keep you alive, so the compressor within the engine pressurizes it so everyone can breathe
Ever heard of bleed air?
