It was written about the blight and decay of Detroit, while Dire Straits were travelling down the actual Telegraph Road. But, it could be adapted to any large city that was once a large and productive powerhouse that has gone to wasteland, drugs, crime and gangs.
Everyone in this performance was magnificent and the synergy between the band members was sublime. But for me, the greatest plaudits are reserved for the songwriter, musical composer, genius finger-picking guitar player and singing storyteller that is Mark Knopfler.
I was at this concert with my dad, and it was mind blowing, especially getting to meet my hero, the drummer Terry Williams afterwards. A fantastic performance by the entire band. Money well spent, thanks to my now late father.
This is not just a song... it's a symphony... fantastic reaction.. thanks a bunch.Try Tunnel of love same concert..you know already we know exactly why😊
Yesterday I saw your reaction of "Sultans of Swing" and I told you "... I know that you will react to Telepgrah Road some day". And it was today, ha ha ha. I told you also that you would be shicked with this song in the Alchemy live, and after see your reaction that was confirmed. Still you should to know more songs of this great band, like, Tunnel of Love, Romeo and Juliet, Walk of Life, Brothers in Arms, Lady Writer, Your lattest trick, Privae Investigations or also a song that never I saw reacted to it but I love "So far away". Congratulations, your enjoyment when you react to these grat bands and great songs is also my enjoyment. I love see younger people than me discovering my teenager songs. I could tell you about much more incredible bands and songs but would be too long. Thanks, again!! And goo job!!
"Tunnel of love" from Wembley 1985 and "Calling Elvis" from the 1993 tour are amazing as well. Mark Knopfler is not just one of the greatest guitarists, he is also an amazing songwriter.
The Wembley 1985 Tunnel of Love is epic, when he's noodling "Stop in the name of Love" and " don't let me be misunderstood " in the lead up and then the closing solo which is a work of art its a classic
Your Dire Straits reactions are incredible man! I really love seeing people discover this great band for the first time. Every one of them stepped up and gave world class performances that night. Such an incredible band, and Mark Knopfler of course is fantastic are writing songs and music. Telegraph Road is a damn masterpiece. Keep up the great work dude, and I hope you continue your Dire Straits journey. You might enjoy Brothers In Arms, and Tunnel of Love.
DS is one of the best bands there has ever been, especially with this composition. Alchemy was a great concert and almost impossible to top. This song is probably one of the greatest and most perfect performances ever. Mark is a god on the guitar and I love his voice. Terry Williams on drums is epic and for me the best drummer DS had. Alan Clark on the piano is out of this world. John Illsey on bass is great and so groovy, always dancing. But Hal Lindes and Guy Fletcher also do a fantastic job. Be sure to check out Tunnel of love live Wembley. To take off
Hey, love your reaction to my favorite band. Another song from this concert is Once Upon A Time In The West, which I think you'll really like. Anyway, love your channel, and all the best from Australia 👍🎸🎸
Mark Knopfler, Lead guitar Hal Lindes, Rhythm guitar John Illsey, Bass guitar Terry Williams, Drums Alan Clark, Keys And for these shows July 1983 additional guest keys, Tommy Mandel.
Everyone on that stage at the top of their game. Playing off each other superbly and having so much fun. They were the top group heading into the 80's.
Love your reaction to this. This is exactly how I felt the first time I watched this concert filmmaker. My father had it on VHS, and he was only 20 years older than I, and we were both guitar players, so we were both liked a lot of the same music. I’d heard it first when I was very young-probably not long after it first emerged-but I wasn’t yet ‘into music’. By the time the early 90s rolled around, though, I remember digging through my father’s tape collection on one particularly long summer day, when it was too hot to be outside, and I discovered this. I put it into my VCR and it was as if all the lights came on in my head. All sorts of little bells and whistles started going off, and it was less than a year after that that I committed myself to learning to play the guitar. Music-and my guitar(s)-have been my best friends ever since that time, and today when I list my 5 greatest influences as a guitarist, Mark Knopfler is always among the top 3, the others being (in no particular order) Jeff Beck, Lindsey Buckingham, David Gilmour, and Buck Dharma.
Out of all the TR reactions I have seen, this reaction is by far the best. Your reactions to all parts of this song were amazing. Your facial changes, laughs, serious looks etc were great. Please keep reacting to great music like this. I thoroughly enjoyed watching you thoroughly enjoy this song. Really well done.
It's funny how this band was so "unhip" in the 80s yet truly loved by those who could hear the genius and didn't care about what music choice said about them. Now it is simply appropriated for what it is without those social connotations attached.
I never understood why everyone else wasn't blown away by them like I was, from '85 onwards. The Wembley '85 concert was on Channel 4's 'The Tube' in '85 or '86 and I couldn't believe what I was hearing. It's correct that they were not very popular in Britain, at least the talking-heads didn't consider them 'cool'. I suspect they had a lot of quiet support from music lovers rather than the fashion followers who did all the media squawking.
great reaction....I saw this concert in Rome at the Capannelle hippodrome.. if I remember correctly I spent 15,000 Italian lire equivalent to 7.5 dollars....try tunnel of love alchemy tour....is amazing
You mentioned the drummer... Terry Williams. Fun fact about this show, it was the first time Terry's dad came to watch him play, and they basically gave him free reigns to go full blast nuclear mode on the drums for the show. The entire band is top tier musicians, and the entire Alchemy live show really displays that well. Also worth mentioning... They saved Telegraph Road almost to the very end of a 3 hour set....
@ajschroetlin2196 for what ever reason he played those drums like never before. In one song he stood up at the end and nearly fell over, he'd put so much effort and as you say for no reason. How they all kept it up for 2 hours 😅, during this performance Mark Knopfler turned and looked at him and the bass player and Mark just smiled. Amazing performance......
This Dire Straits is my fav, Never heard on Classic Rock Radio, because it is 15min long! Glad you enjoyed this classic Dire Straits song my friend!!😀👍👍👍👌✌
These legendary bands have not usurped their fame or success! All my band members master their fields, each one is at the top in mastering their instrument, it's great, really great 👍
Not just this song, but the entire concert is a masterclass demonstrating how band members should play together. Every member plays their distinct plays with no one person trying to assert themselves as the "star" or become the "focus of attention". Mark is certainly the lead man but he's happy just to play his part (his part happens also to involve vocals) and let everyone else play theirs. As a result the whole is greater than the sum of the parts. Add to this the fantastic musicianship and orchestration and you have a legendary performance by a legendary band. The unsung hero of this particular song is Alan Clark on keyboards and piano, and down in the engine room, Terry Williams on drums drives the song forward with just the right energy Also, the crowd already knows the song, and you can hear them singing along during the first verse 🙂
Best part of going to a concert then was : It was all real , no frikkin Autotune , I cant even start to express how much I HATE autotune ! I feel blessed to have seen Dire Straits and Pink Floyd and many more live , the golden age of stadium bands !
This is very unusual because it's a guitar playing masterclass AND an orchestration masterclass. The playing isn't hugely technical but the feel and the delivery carries more emotion to the listener than anything else I've heard. Alan Clark's piano elevates it even more, and Hal Lindes' rhythm guitar work is incredible, especially on the opener 'Once Upon a Time'. The studio version is a great song, but converting it into this is astonishing considering there are so many individuals involved playing their parts live. Not to mention conceiving of it in the mind to begin with. The same could be said for Tunnel of Love at Wembley '85.
This concert was filmed in Topeka, Kansas where the band was formed. They have other big hits like “Beth,” “Come Sail Away,” and “Oops, I Did it Again.” So good!
Follow that Taylor Swift, Kanye etc........you can't because this is the real deal, this is musicianship, no autotune, sound editing. Hairs literally standing up on my neck.
For more prevalent rock piano watch Bruce Springsteen live specifically Jungleland, Thunder Road (1975 Hammersmith) Racing in the Street. Roy Bitten is the backbone of the E Street band
Please like and share this video, and just comment anything
Now watch _Rush_ performing _Xanadu_ live!
This song should be incorporated into history class in school.... This is history that could stick in kids heads......
It was written about the blight and decay of Detroit, while Dire Straits were travelling down the actual Telegraph Road. But, it could be adapted to any large city that was once a large and productive powerhouse that has gone to wasteland, drugs, crime and gangs.
Pianist shows his skills here. Alan Clark made this song come alive with his voicings and intricacy
Everyone in this performance was magnificent and the synergy between the band members was sublime. But for me, the greatest plaudits are reserved for the songwriter, musical composer, genius finger-picking guitar player and singing storyteller that is Mark Knopfler.

You lucky bastard… every kid should have a dad like yours. So sorry for your loss.
@@J0hnny8ravo thank you

People don't realize, this is the story of us! Leave it to a Brit to know more about our heritage than we do!
Telling - our - story, with the Dire Straits symphony!
Yesterday I saw your reaction of "Sultans of Swing" and I told you "... I know that you will react to Telepgrah Road some day". And it was today, ha ha ha.

41 years down the Telegraph Road and this performance is still the benchmark for live music.
"Tunnel of love" from Wembley 1985 and "Calling Elvis" from the 1993 tour are amazing as well. Mark Knopfler is not just one of the greatest guitarists, he is also an amazing songwriter.

A Story Teller .
This song and this performance is a Masterpiece played by fantastic musicians. Love Dire Straits!
100 years from now, people will still be listening to this. It's timeless.
My boy, this is what you call musical genius. MASTERPIECE

YES, Once Upon A Time in the west is magic
I call / feel this Band are all full heart musicians in every beat , AAA+

In the 85 after the release of brothers in arms they were actually considered the biggest band in the world for a while
But still considered uncool to like. Now of course they are judged on their music alone
I never understood why everyone else wasn't blown away by them like I was, from '85 onwards. The Wembley '85 concert was on Channel 4's 'The Tube' in '85 or '86 and I couldn't believe what I was hearing.

Nice to see young folks getting lit up with yesteryears music.
It's just too good in every way.
Great reaction!
Appreciate it!!
I appreciated your responses, reaction, and your analysis at the end. Well done.

Love you're reaction haha. This is my favourite track from Dire Straits. I grew up with their music from the early 80s. They are epic
