Just finished MY reading of this book earlier this afternoon and...it was FANTASTIC.
The last few chapters in particular felt like an emotional roller coaster in EVERY sense of the word, one hurtle after another

So happy you got to read and review this one, TJ is my absolute favorite author ever!!
This book put me on a track to become a tea sommelier based on Hugo’s relationship with tea alone ☺️

I really loved this, I watched it about a year after my dad died of cardiac arrest so it was a bit triggering. However I was able to separate the two. And I found this so sweet and strangely comforting. Really liked the characters.

I much preferred The House in The Cerulean Sea but still found this to be fun and sweet. I haven’t read any other TJ Kline books but this specific kind he writes is totally my jam! Plus the book covers for these two novels are too cute 😊

Did this book have a happy ending? I just finished the cerulean sea yesterday, literally spent the whole day reading it and I'm still immersed in Linus and Arthur's happy ending, so I want to read more books from TJ Klune but lowkey scared of the ending was....something I was expecting it🥲

I loved this book even more than House in the Cerulean Sea, personally - I think I just connected with the characters more? I was sobbing near the end. I think TJ Klune's writing just works for me.

I'd recommend reading his Green Creek series, to be honest. I've read the entire Green Creek series, The House in the Cerulean Sea and Under the Whispering Door, in that order, and honestly it kind of changed the way I saw TJ Klune as an author. Obviously, it's not as well written as those 2 most recent books, but it shows how many different characters he can create, in a different universe, besides, it has a REALLY different vibe. The family bonds in his books are always strong, but it's even stronger in Green Creek and the relationships between the characters are more well-developed, not only the romantic ones, every character is important and connected to one another. I'm saying this because I agree with you: these 2 recent books have similar romances, so I think it's interesting to see a whole different side of TJ Klune writing different types of couples!

I actually DNFed this book last year. I could not handle the main character, so I noped out of that book without looking back. Maybe I could try the audiobook and fastforward a bit.

I thought the main was too much in the first chapter. I felt he had so far to go to redeem himself and I just thought that could have been easily handled by toning down the douchebagery in the first chapter. I also liked the romance in Cerulean Sea was better. I don't know that this book needed it. Found family was enough to love this without the romance. I also laughed so hard at the fake medium...that was such a great character.

Sorry, but I lost interest in the book around chapter 10 when Wallace, the ghost, falls in love with his reaper, Hugo. I just couldn't handle the thought of a ghost getting it on with his human reaper. Really? Do we need to have those images in my mind. uucckkk I just couldn't finish the book. =( I have the book House in the Cerulean Sea and I am wondering if I should read it or just get rid of the book? I have nothign against people who are gay, but I am not and am not interested in reading about those types of things.

ok so apparently it's not about the ghost and reaper dynamic but it's because they both men? that's just homophobia. TJ Klune is a queer author known for writing m/m romances so...... maybe do your research first.

@@milliesal5684You know what would help? Getting your mind out of the gutter. These two are incapable of touching throughout the whole book, why would the strongest images in your mind be about them "getting it on"? You claim to have nothing against gay people, yet both your comments are you mentioning sex when that isn't the point of the story or what brings the two together, and frankly, it just sounds like you think queer relationships are inherently more sexual, which is what a lot of homophobic people push to justify their unfounded disgust.
Since you mentioned The House in the Cerulean Sea - yes, it's gay, but there is nothing sexual between the two characters. It's very pure and wholesome. It also features the Antichrist as a character, so if that does offend you, you may want to skip, even though it's mostly an endearing story about accepting those who you have negative judgements of without knowing their true character first. It might be a good book with a lesson applicable to you.
