Volker Bau flew her gently. Heard he only had a few flights on this particular aircraft before. Although he has flown other 109`s, there were no G6 like super-high speed low passes with this one. Was great to see her fly. Many thanks to Hangar 10 for making this possible!
Sorry for the wind noises, mic. upgrade is in progress.

The Messerschmitt Bf 109 (often referred to as Me 109) was a single-seat German fighter aircraft of the 1930s and 1940s. It belonged to a new generation of low-wing fighter aircraft, which were characterized by a closed cockpit, retractable landing gear and an all-metal construction of the fuselage and wings. In addition to their original purpose, various variants were also used as fighter-bombers, night-fighters and reconnaissance aircraft. With around 33,300 aircraft, the Bf 109 is one of the most-built aircraft and the most-built fighter in history. ----- In analogy to those later designed by Willy Messerschmitt aircraft such as the known Me 262, the type is often referred to as Me 109. After the official naming of the Reich aviation ministry (RLM), however, the historically correct designation was consistently Bf 109, since the design work began in 1934 at the Bayerische Flugzeugwerke (BFW). After renaming the BFW in Messerschmitt AG in 1938, the designation no longer changed, as with the Bf 110. All later developed by Messerschmitt aircraft types (Me 163, Me 210/410, etc.) but received the abbreviation Me in the type designation.
The first flight took place in May 1935. The first series machines were incorporated in February 1937 in the "Jagdverbände" of the German Air Force. Despite the early start of construction before the outbreak of the Second World War, the Bf 109 was by constant improvements until 1945 a competitive pattern in use against the Allies.
Until the unconditional surrender of the Wehrmacht in 1945, the Bf 109 remained the standard Luftwaffe fighter aircraft, supplemented by the Focke-Wulf Fw 190 from mid-1941 onwards. Airplanes of this type were also used by numerous other air forces, for example in Finland, Yugoslavia, Croatia, Romania , Hungary, Italy and Switzerland. Type: fighter
    Design Country:
    German Reich , German Empire
    Manufacturer: Messerschmitt
    First flight: May 28, 1935 [1]
    Built: 1937
    Production time:
    1936 to 1945 (HA-1112 to 1958)
Number of pieces: approx. 33,300 (of which 30,573 from German production) --- In action, the Bf 109 E proved to be a very good fighter over Poland, Norway and France, which was flown by well-trained and partly combat-driven pilots. The disadvantage of the short range fell in the early campaigns of the Wehrmacht still little importance. Only during the Battle of Britain, when the German fighter squadrons met for the first time on a large scale on equal opponents (both in technical, and - with a certain time delay - in terms of tactics), the strengths and weaknesses of the Bf 109 E clearly visible.
At medium and high altitudes, the Bf 109 E was faster than the Spitfire and significantly faster than the Hurricane at all altitudes. This height advantage could be used by the German pilots again and again, if they could plunge in accompanying operations from excessive positions on the British bombers attacking British fighters. With an armament of two 20 mm MG FF guns and two 7.92 mm MG 17 machine guns, they also had a greater firepower than the British hunters with their battery of eight 7.7 -mm machine guns - mainly due to the explosive ammunition of the machine guns.
Compared to the British hunters Spitfire and Hurricane had the Bf 109 E a larger turning circle. Although it had a higher lift coefficient and a lower weight than the Spitfire, but due to its much smaller wing, it still had a roughly 20% larger turning circle at the same speed. In terms of fall speed, the Bf 109 E surpassed both British patterns.
Another advantage of the Bf 109 E was the Daimler-Benz engine with direct fuel injection, which allowed to push hard into a dive without the engine suspended (defensive maneuvers in the air combat tactics). The British aircraft with carburetor engines had to initiate the dive with a time-consuming half-roll and therefore could not follow fast enough. The biggest disadvantage of the Bf 109 E at the time of the "Battle of Britain" was its short range. During escort operations, the German pilots often had only enough gasoline over their targets for ten to a maximum of 20 minutes air combat and often the choice to abandon the bomber or to risk a ditching in the English Channel because of fuel shortage. The development of the E-Series had brought a new, simplified cockpit can with improved armor before the beginning of the air battles over England with the E-4 version, but the urgently needed introduction of an additional tank could not be completed before the end of the Battle of Britain. This succeeded only in the fall of 1940 with the version E-7. - -- With no other aircraft model in the history of the air war more kills were achieved than with the Bf 109. For example, Erich Hartmann recorded 352 confirmed aerial victories, only in different models of the Bf 109th One of the most famous fighter pilots on a Bf 109 E and Bf 109 F in North Africa was Hans-Joachim Marseille, who scored 151 of his 158 total shootings against British Royal Air Force aircraft during the African campaign. Other drivers of the Bf 109, which achieved high firing numbers, were Gerhard Barkhorn with 301 aerial victories, Günther Rall with 275 aerial victories and Hermann Graf with 212 aerial victories. The most well-known pilots of the Bf 109 were Werner Mölders (115 victories) and Adolf Galland (104 victories), who successively held the post of general of fighter pilots.
The extraordinarily high shooting numbers achieved with the Bf 109 in World War II are due to a combination of factors. Initially, the Bf 109 was a well-constructed aircraft, which was at the beginning and in the middle phase of its service life to the most powerful fighter aircraft was calculated. Similar to the British Spitfire, the Bf 109's cell was able to accommodate increasingly powerful engines and heavier weapons. This countered the general trend for higher speeds and higher altitudes in the aerial battles, as most aerial victories were achieved not by tight cornering but by surprise attacks from excessive positions. Thus, the Bf 109 was until about the end of 1942 as an aircraft that provided its pilots benefits that could be compared with the patterns of the opposing side or better than these were. In particular, in the first twelve months of the war against the Soviet Union, the German fighter pilots met technically obsolete enemy aircraft, which were used after outdated air combat tactics. This caused the firing numbers of the Luftwaffe to rise sharply. Mfg Magnus

What few people know is that the BF109G was not at all inferior to the P-51. The only reason for the performance discrepancy between the two was the fuel used. The Germans only had 90 octane in most cases, whereas the Americans and Brits used 130 octane fuel. Which meant that they could run much higher boost. The 109 was actually a smaller aircraft with a larger engine vs. the P-51. edit: *Also, the 109G was not a fighter but a bomber interceptor so it had heavier armor and armament than a fighter would have needed.*

A super video! Also, great to see a propeller rotating as we see them. I despair of modern filming using scanning shutters, where the prop doesn't blur - seeing blades slowly rotating is not way the human eye registers it. When the two Lancaster bombers were flying together here in England a little while back, a lot of the footage just looked a bit silly. My father's second tour of operations with 61 Sqn was flying Lancs and those slowly rotating props rather spoilt the effect. As for the lack of Swastika, I think it's a shame not to display the aeroplane as it was originally, but that's the law and I fully understand the reasons. I don't think my father was too happy seeing one up on his starboard beam when he got shot up one night either! All history now, I suppose...

PaddyPatrone (I like your "ammo" name): Excellent video. One overwhelming problem late in the war was the need for Luftwaffe pilots to continue flying until sick, injured or killed.
Fuel endurance: Me-109s supposedly could only fly over southern England for approx. 30 min., until reaching the "bingo fuel" quantity, requiring a direct course back to the home base in northern France, or Any "friendly" base they could reach.
Redesign of the fuel system to allow external tanks in existing aircraft must have been impossible, with the demands to keep aircraft operating on the Soviet/Russian front and western battle zones, or simple obstacles caused by the basic fuel system design and extremely tight spaces in the wings etc..
