Some misconceptions I want to clear up about Garry's Mod and how Source works with it. More add-ons doesn't necessarily drop your performance, any add-ons that modify visuals can. Simply having hundreds of maps and vehicle add-ons does nothing to your performance. Garry's Mod, or source to that matter, does not take advantage of newer hardware the way you think it does. If anything, hardware after 2010 chokes the engine which can cause insane amounts of lag when you least expect it. From my testing, a Core2 Quad Q9650 paired with an 8800 GTS 512 or GTX 285 will run Garry's Mod the same as a Ryzen 5 3950X and RTX 2080. An i5 2500K and GTX 670 will perform similarly, but with less instability than the Ryzen. Granted addon loading, extracting, map loading and LOD may vary slightly due to storage. All systems were tested with the same SSD. The Q9650 and 2500K were also paired with the same DDR3 RAM. Overall stability will be better on older hardware, but you will see difference in max FPS and 0.1% lows given the latency on older platforms. But your average frame rate will remain about the same (negligible) compared to newer hardware. All in all, Source was built around this hardware and these limits in mind, therefore I will run the best on it.
Another way to see your fps is bringing up your spawn menu, on the top of your screen you should see the word 'drawing'. Hover over it and near the bottom you should see where it says "show fps" and just apply that.
@@brokee738 sure, here's how you do it: go to regedit, to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE then when you have it selected do ctrl+f to bring up the find menu and search for this "0cc5b647-c1df-4637-891a-dec35c318583" check only the "keys" box and press find then double click the max value file and change it from 64 to 0 and now all you have to do is restart the computer if you don't know what core parking is it's basically turning off cpu cores when there's not much load on them, that's why gmod runs better when you launch a map as a server, it makes use of more cores, this will boost performance in all games and will even make your windows experience faster With it enabled I had around 110fps in the city at fork map and when I turned it off I had around 180-190 I do have an 8 core cpu though, so the difference in fps will be different depending on the number of cores you have hope that helps :)
Its crazy for me to think 30-60 fps isn't that slow even when theres people with like 150 fps and i just got so used to a low framerate it doesnt even bother me
I've got a rtx 3060 and a amd ryzen 5500 and 3200mhz DDR4 RAM and I tend to get fps drops (due to mods, like let's be honest this rig should be definitive for gmod) well it could be worse, I used to have a gt 1030 and i7 870 with 1333mhz DDR3 RAM, I just prefer to be above 60 most of the time due to the mods, or probably it's a different problem
Out of curiosity what graphics card r u using? I'm getting my first Gaming pc in about a month and I also used to try to play on a shitty acer laptop lol, so I'm curious what gpu u use now and what I should expect for my pc
If it's a gaming PC manufacturer such as Alienware, MSI or ASUS you should be fine, as this game uses a relatively old engine and most of these laptops are designed with gaming hardware in mind anyway.
I have no idea how my 1500 PC cannot run Gmod at a stable 60 fps, it usually dips down to 30, somehow. guess a Ryzen 5 3600 and RTX 3060 TI can't run Gmod with 250-ish addons
Not only this mod saves your fps, but also it’s essential for silent hill themed roleplay in your favourite map.
Fax
its not only good for fps its good for realisim and roleplays too
actually tho because irl you can't really see from far away when its windy (my town is lightly foggy since its windy)
Don't forget, having alot of addons cause fps drops too
Right xD 500 addons make it laggy some time
@@Lord_common_sense for sure, man
yeah people seems to forget that having a lot of addons cause lag
Yeah i know
I delete useless addons
To download new ones
i have a 3060ti but i only get like 100 fps because i got 57 pages of addons
Now we can have our own silent hill maps, or any other creepy map
You can have Silent Hill now, ON ANY MAP
Missed oppurtunity not calling it "Garry's Fog"
I like this a lot
In my restless dreams, I see that FPS counter..
another good mod, now i can play in big gmod maps without losing fps
love this mod i use it myself and really helps my stupid ok pc not lag

What about Source 2? I'd assume it works much better on modern hardware, but then again idk how much of it is based on Source.
I have an Ryzen 7 1700, Rx 580, 32go of ram and a 2go reading and writing SSD
I hate this fkn game
I love this so much I like thick fog and receiving decent fps big cheer for the author.
Someone's about to turn this into silent hill
My pc Isn’t terrible but those mods with crazy lighting and that are massive I would definitely need this.

Awesome Mod
an hour after i find it, this comes out
The fog is coming
once the Bowling Alley is within LOS, your FPS just dips because of the insanely close to RTX style Reflections there
this reminds me of minecraft fog, which if i had minecraft i would certainly have that cranked to max like i would with this fog
pro tip, disable core parking in windows to make the game utilize all the cpu cores

I can completely understand on that purple Christmas map. You literally lost like a hundred FPS

i use this in horror maps
Will it save the options you put?? If it doesn’t, this is a good suggestion

For some reason this mod has my fog set at max density and I can’t turn it down, it looks horrible
This mod would have been great for the hand-me-down 2008 hp pavilion my uncle gave me
Fortunately I saved up for a decent PC now
x86-64 bit branch has joined the chat
how to open that addon ?
nice
My laptop must have a buff hardware
Ctrl shift esc --> performance
This mod is cool, but is it as cool as Dr>Breens Private Reserve Weaponry?
Guys don’t have over 357 mods and Reshade enabled trust me😂
hey Necros you should make a video about the 3d nextbots NOW! it just got another expansion update its about time you make a video about it
how do you see your fps
