Context for the Episode: The City divides into 4 regions with very different and opposing (almost antagonic) cultures. The South Region, North Region, The Temple Area and the Noble Quarter.
    Culture in the Southern Region
Lutz family is part of the Southern Region of the City, in that place people communicate rudely and harsh regularly. Clients would often say "Ey, can you make me a f*king pair of shoes?" and owners would answer "F*ck you I'll finish this order first and them I'll make your f*cking shoes. Go the hell somewhere else until I'm finished." and the client would be happy about it. That's a regular Southern Interaction for them. So Ralph entering and pulling Lutz while speaking like if the doesn't give a f*ck about people surrounding them is normal for him because he has a Southern Region Culture. Speaking nicely is not something you do there, and everybody works in the same businees as their parents. Trying to "live your own dreams" is just "being a st*pid" for all of them. Myne's family is the only exception, because Myne's dad did NOT come from a military family, and he always dreamt about being a hero, a soldier, a person who protects his city, and his odd and "st*pid" childish way of being is what made his wife laugh and fall in love with him, which is why Myne's family cannot be used as an example of "what is normal" in their neighborhood.
    Culture in the Northern Region
Benno's family and the Guild Master live both at the Northern Region, in that place people MUST communicate elegantly and in a strictly civil manner. People from this place never go to the South, and they are very shocked when they see a Southern, since southern folk are very insulting in their way of being. A northern would say "excuse me?" whenever a southern says "Hello!! How the f*ck are you doing today?". So that's why EVERYBODY, even the people outside from the store were scared and angry when they saw Ralph acting in the rude way he was. And that is also why Lutz, who just learned how to behave in the North, was trying to not make a scene.
How do people from the North and South interact, then?
People at the south NEVER travel north, and vice versa. Every workshop in the south has a "leader" or "shop owner" who is a very experienced and respected southern, who has also mastered the art of speaking politely to customers, as also learned writing (remember people at the south are illiterate). ONLY those leaders/owners are the ones who trade with the north, they are the only ones who go to the Merchant Guild to do business and are the only ones who maintain everything in order. This is also one of the reasons why southerns like Lutz's family view merchants as "thiefs" or "mischivieous people", since they do not understand what they write in their "weirdy st*pid tables" and all they know about merchants is that "they profit from our labor, so they must be evil".

@taura3997 it also part of the reason Benno and Otto found Myne so wired as they an Corena chatted after Benno meet Myne and Lutz for the Firs time was Myne was so mannered onto of clean that Benno asked Otto of her parents where very strict who where from high class families fallen on hard times

The LN Lutz's parents have a bigger point. There are two types apprentice contracts, one that only lasts 3 years and is the equivalent of an hourly employee which Lutz currently had, and a second type that is lifetime length and is sort of like a salary employee with tenure destined for a management position. This is the type of contract he has at the end of the episode. Lutz parents were objecting to Benno, making Lutz do work way above his pay grade.

  • @sanashi27
    @sanashi27 17 дней назад +2

I understand where Lutz' parents are coming from but I also understand why Lutz misunderstood. Not only were the parents not clear with telling Lutz that they would support him, the dad did yell and pushed him making the whole "Do what you want" sound like he was angry and didn't mean it. Hisa family also angrily trying to drag him out of the store he was working at also makes it look like they absolutely don't approve of him working. Lutz had to apologize for causing trouble but his parents should've too cause their awful way of going about things started this.
Also, they could tell that the talk in the end had caused trouble for everyone else but somehow his family didn't think all the fussing and yelling outside of the store while Lutz was working was troublesome as well.

06:18 Still better than what some people do (or used to do) with their TV. Hit it until it works again.
I never understood this. In my book, if anything, hitting something is more of a way to break it.
13:50 This whole thing was literally just an issue of bad communication.
The father just couldn't express himself properly, and the mother just wouldn't.
Truly, the parents are the ones who should apologize.
    ...
Then again, Main might have overkilled it by involving Ferdinand in their little dispute.
It helped, but a civil conversation in a different place might have been enough.

@JeromeBellon yeas but Benno's status power might not haven been enough to get Deid to elberorate enough, he is a foreman of a construction company. It was the fact he couldn't refused to answer a blue robes that made him speak.

  • @rustykoper8264
    @rustykoper8264 17 дней назад +2

Lutz had to apologize, but logically the whole mess was made by an adult who can't express his thoughts properly until he is pressured by people with power, which can't be dismissed with inarticulate excuses anymore
Yes, the phrase “do what you want” can mean different things, but he said it right after pushing his son toward the door, which has a pretty big impact on the meaning of the accompanying words
Plus a few days of trying to sabotage Lutz's job instead of trying to meet with him after hours only solidified the notion that the family is against the job

@Norbert_Sattler actually no. An abacus isn't an adding machine. Knowing how to use requires at least sum knowledge of the how the functions work. A mechanical adding machine were table size is the smallest I'm aware of. Not hand held devices they have. Further more people with Calculator job title also used abacus like devices.

For context, if Benno had been a less generous person, he absolutely would have had the power and influence to ruin Lutz's family, until they had no choice but to accept the adoption. Something that his family appears to not be aware of. Otherwise they'd already know that Benno isn't the kind of heartless person they think all rich merchants are.
At the end of the volume from which this chapter is, there's a side-story from Deid's (Lutz's father) perspective, that makes it a lot more clear what goes on in his head, ending with him accompanying Lutz to signing the Leherl contract and filing it at the merchant guild. Especially this last one leaves him first intimidated and then impressed and proud with how well Lutz is fitting in and working there, with all the rich folk.
In essence it all boils down to an inability to communicate, from both Lutz and his parents. They all had valid reasons to worry, but completely failed to communicate those fears to the others, leading to this unnecessary fight, when a heart-to-heart would have been enough to get everyone on the same page.
And Benno is partly to blame here too, since he already gave Lutz work and responsibilities that usually only a Leherl would get, while he was still a Lehange, which at a glance does seem rather suspiciously like exploiting him.
Oh right, Leherl are more or less middle-management positions, that are signed practically for life, while Lehanges are the rank-and-file workers, that sign timed contracts that need to be renewed every couple of years.
Not to mention the whole adoption thing. What would you think if the boss of your son or daughter suddenly asked if he can adopt your child?

They way I understand it is that his dad went like: "do whatever you want!" And Lutz took those words as the dad not accepting it. Basically, misscomunication. This entire thing was just misscomunication all over the place actually lol. Like they thought they were kidnapping him and taking advantage of Lutz. They also thought that it was really dangerous, which is fair, but Benno was going to take the proper precautions.
This whole thing is better in the LN which is ironic, anime watchers are not getting the right information about this conflict either lmao.

The mom's reaction here is also quite normal. Who'd give their child away to some unknown person to a faraway land?(only half a day away by carriage but you get what I mean)
