hey Eric, i know you're a one man shop, so i really value you taking time to put these videos together. It's a small thing, but getting the scene cards proof read would remove a distraction from an otherwise excellent video.
I'm flabbergasted about this video after your previous rant on IKEAs disposable wrench... Does it have material info on the straw? Does the strain of material and addictions to it make it easily biodegradable?
The straw is great to help reduce my wrinkles above lips or at least prevent more!! How long is this straw?? One review said not long enough for a 30 and 40 oz. Tumbler which we nurses use daily to stay hydrated. Any way you can make a longer straw like these as well??
This video was very informative! -yet hilarious at the same time. Showing the design process, the considerations to be accounted for and explaining the choices that were made was well worth the watch! My main takeaway is something else though... I guess that not all jobs offered by clients really make sense apart from a monetary point of view. The idea of buying 2 drinking straws for 20$ under the premise to "reduce wrinkles around the mouth" will (in my sarcastic opinion) probably appeal to the kind of people who might be better off not eating, drinking or indeed talking at all. Hey folks, dont use words with the letter "O" in them! Harsh? Very likely. Will it sell? Also likely. Does Common Sense endorse this product? I am not so sure. I dont want to rain on your parade though. I like what you are doing and I do enjoy your videos, but I think plastic straws should be gone for good. Also I kinda enjoy watching my girl drink a cocktail through an old fashioned straw.
@christiankremer9635 Dunno about drinking, but the "wrinkles around the mouth" is certainly a thing for smokers - the phrase "looking like a cat's bung hole" comes to mind. Women's cigarette holders often had a splayed end, though not as pronounced as this straw. Too late & wrong industry perhaps? (What an odd bunch of sentences to write out.)
I wish it would have a more eco friendly material, ultimately the client chose a different path than the original one. I was very disappointed by that choice. Your comments are spot on, funny as well.
@@EricStrebel Thinking about it, e-cigarettes used to be round, then went to the splayed tip when they became vapes. Wrinkles ain't cool apparently, who says smokers are too dumb to learn anything.
When dealing with manufacturers, are you needing to have NDAs in place, or make sure that your product idea is protected? Also, what is the average cost/ time it takes for this process (im sure it varies, just wondering average ballpark)
No joke here, the design process is shown in great detail. Communication with the client, first sketches, iterations, material choices, producing mockups, finding a manufacturer, agreeing on the tooling- its all there... It does not matter that the product itself is kind of ridiculous, the same mechanisms would apply if Eric would have to design an inverse barbecue lighter, a silent kitchen radio or a talking inflatable avocado. What have you designed and brought to market lately?
Very intriguing to see the design process through the eyes of a designer!
Thanks so much for being sooo much helpful, Eric!
Super video. The design process and decsions made for production are fascinating. Mahalo for sharing! 🙂❤️🙏🙏🙏

I love this!!! Great job as always. Going to Amazon to get me one 😊
Enjoy, I think Megan would like them too 😊
Who needs an alarm clock when they're dropping massive chimneys at 6AM.
Great video. How much did the tooling cost?
Well explained, thanks a lot

I was relatively surprise by my client as well when they made the decision to go to plastic.
Even bio plastic is still plastic, and paper straws are TERRIBLE.
nice. can't get any 1st world problem than this!
They spelled "straw" wrong in the product title of their Amazon page 🤦♂️

Молодцом!
Do you step away once a supplier is confirmed and they order directly from them or do they order through you and you make a cut per order etc?
What did you coat the 3D print with to make it safe for use?
2k automotive clear coat. I would not use them everyday, but for testing purposes they should be fine.

The Amazon page says the drinking straw is made out of PP, but you said it is made out of HDPE.
The enemy of this straw design: Bubble Tea :-)

Depends on the client, that is on them, I don't really care. It's not my IP
Is this a joke?
The “design process”?
Hahahaha
I Don't understand the question, can you elaborate?

You are very funny, and correct of course. Clients pay the bills to keep the doors open....the dirty secret of industry.
